You really have to wonder what is going on behind the scenes. Either Bungie is furiously writing a brand new game engine (since apparently it takes 10 hours for the devs to move a rock). Or they are just riding out these lazy "live team" events.
Seriously think about it for a moment. We know the live team is a small group, so what is the larger group working on? No way they are just sitting back slowly making the next expansion, player engagement is so low they are in total panic mode. My money is on the new engine, it's the only way they can create and deliver enough to keep us active and engaged. New engine and tools = a lot of time.
But until they communicate with us; questions, opinions and rumors will destroy any good will this game has/had. We all should just walk away for a while and play other games. Come back when there is something to see.

I honestly believe they have had a lot of internal chaos in the last 3-4 months. Bungie has too much at stake with Destiny to give up or coast it out. I think in the coming months we are going to see some major changes in direction... If those are for better or worse, we'll just have to wait and see.

Apparently it takes 24 hours

I think your theory holds some water. The 6 week "break" was probably not a vacation by any means. The engine is holding the dev back tremendously.
