My current thoughts on Destiny, ft. Rant.

This is probably some of the harshest feedback I can give to Bungie. I feel bad because I know how much work they put into their game. But sometimes getting angry out of frustration at a developer can give them a push in the right direction. They need to know what is wrong. I first got into Destiny half way through last year, and a month after, I began a video game art/design course. I went into that course telling myself that one day, I want to work for Bungie and aid in the design of this masterpiece of a game. I could see it's floors... But I could also see the incredible amount of potential that lived inside it's universe. Now... Bungie seem like the most uncoordinated, backwards game developer company ever. It's not my fault that I see the company this way. It is just how they've portrayed themselves through interviews, updates and most importantly... Their game. Gamers like to have freedom. They like paving their own path toward victory. When year 1 ended, Bungie began taking things away and making the things that we liked obsolete. Sure some things needed balancing... Fair enough that they got nerfed... However, I don't quite understand the nerf for weapons that don't have year 2 versions... Like, you could have left them alone so that year 1 players could have fun when they were over taking the game seriously... Why did the Ice Breaker need a nerf when it was no longer going to have any significant impact over the way the game is played, seeing as it's attack is shit now? Having things taken away from a player is something that befits the role of a villain. Like when Crota prevents your shield from regenerating, he takes that ability away. Like when the weight of darkness slows you down and prevents you from jumping or using abilities. Bungie as a developer is acting in a similar way to these things. When I play, I feel like there is always something that is holding my guardian back from the experience that I want and paid for. It is literally the most stupid and unnecessary thing that I have ever witnessed in the growth and expansion of a game... To see old things that the community loved become meaningless... I just don't get it... That move on behalf of bungie was the biggest mistake to witness, for me, in my gaming history. Because we can't go back. Due to this being a complete overhaul and not a second disc... We can't go back to play the old game we loved. Bungie decided to time gate The Taken King to prolong it and make it seem as if it was bigger than it really was... The raid was spectacular and had gamers from all sorts of different communities wanting to know what the fuss was about. The people who constantly told me that Destiny is garbage were complimenting the raid, saying how it was impressive. While those outsiders started talking less hatefully toward the game... The hardcore playerbase grew bored and frustrated with how we were being held back all in order to make the game seem more impressive. I would have preferred you make certain activities just not allow the use of certain weapons... Instead of nerfing them to the ground, have modes that disallow tier 1 weapons. Hard mode raid (no gjallarhorn, ice breaker, black hammer). That way, we could enjoy the raid how we want in normal mode, but are presented with a real challange that forces us to think about our loadouts in hard mode. Maybe this is a terrible idea? Who knows. I'm not a professional game developer. All I know is that taking exciting things a way and replacing them with less exciting things is an awful, awful, disastrous idea and that leaving us with less content than what we had before is borderline retarded. We went from 2 raids, PoE, a variety of strikes and a variety of PVP maps to 1 raid, a mundane playlist of strikes and an extremely mundane PVP playlist. I think it's worse with PVP because with strikes, you can go and select an old one if you want and play it. You can play it in legacy. But with PVP, you can't choose what map you want. Asylum is a PVP map that I haven't played since year 1 and it is also my favourite map. It maddens me to think that I am being limited in my gameplay of Destiny all because of some terrible designer choices. It pisses me off. I don't wanna say it but I will.. I want my money back. Destiny was great in year 1 because there was a lot to do.. Both raids took us to different places. The strike playlists involved every area. PVP maps also involved every area. A bad but acceptable loot system. Destiny year 2 sucks because there is only 1 relevant raid, the exotics are boring, the strikes go from mars, to earth, to the dreadnaught and back. Venus and the Moon (my two favourite areas) are completely ignored. PVP map rotation follows the same exact, faulty pattern. A much worse, more infuriating and more RNG revolved loot/progression system... (Bungie talked a lot about the improved, less RNG based loot system that would come in TTK... You clearly thought it was better, which means you have no idea what you're doing) It just feels boring and mundane... Going from a dusty planet to a dirty planet to a ruined ship... When there is a bright, vibrant planet that is being ignored and a dark, spacey planet (moon) that sees 1 strike and no PVP play. I'm actually starting to think that Bungie is full of people who have absolutely no idea about what they're doing. It's not something that I want to think.... But when I think of Bungie I almost laugh. A triple A game studio? Really? I mean, they got the art side down, they're fantastic at that. They built a terrific game that at the moment, almost seems out of their league... If they gave what they have now to a different company who actually have a sense of displayable direction, I can almost guarantee that it would improve tremendously. I see no hope for the Destiny universe in the next year and a half... Maybe in 2/3 years, it might be something amazing. I mean, it took them 4 years to make all the content we have now. 2 years to mess it up, 1 year to fix some of it, and 1 year to fix the rest (aka year 2). I am not expecting new content any time soon. We might get some broken ideas that were scrapped and remade due to not having enough time to make actual new things though. I just wish we could have seen what this game would be like without the 2 years of meaningless work and a rushed year to make up for it... It could have been amazing. Thank you for your time. Sorry for the rant.
