Just made Light level 300 with No raid Gear at all.
I have not touched the raid yet, and still made it to 300 Light, so yes it is possible to get 300 without doing the raid. Have a peek at my Titan.
Now 301 without touching Oryx. LOL
Edit: Now 302 as I just got en exotic Arm Piece at 310 exactly what I needed LMAO.

Made the jump from 294 to 301 just doing iron banner. Haven't even tried the raid yet.
