I feel like rift has been the absolute most competitive Iron Banner to date. In my mind this made it the best mode for Iron Banner.
People used to complain non stop that Iron Banner was too easy.
The problem, is that IB Rift is no fun at all for solo players. This alone makes rift a bad decision for Iron Banner.

I soloed 2 characters to rank 5 and loved every minute of it

Same here ,to me it looks like u got lucky groups for me it was like i could win 5 in a row then all of a sudden i cant get a win for the life of me
