First and foremost, congratulations Mr. Parsons on your newest endeavor at Bungie! I for one want to warmly welcome you to the community with a fresh slate and state for the record that I have high hopes for you and what you could do to improve Destiny. Like many others, even those that have not played for some time yet still troll these forums, we want to see Destiny succeed. For many reasons it has been going downhill and rapidly at that. The lack of communication and seemingly stubborn attitude to stick with bad decisions with a dash of condescension sprinkled on top when we do get communication has lead to a very toxic environment.
To "cut to the chase" as it were, here is a list that is most likely not comprehensive, but rather a starting point, of things that should be changed asap:
Etheric Light - I'm sure you know what Etheric Light was in House of Wolves, so I won't define that for you. I will explain though why it is important to make this effective like it was in HoW immediately. Note that you will hear some people deny they want this. Please be aware they are in the minority and either deleted their cool Y1 stuff or never had it to begin with and are simply jealous. I know that seems too simple of an explanation but sometimes the truth is just that simple. Others will claim they just "don't want everyone to use Y1 weapons and armor" which as anyone with common sense knows, that is more of a problem with that person and their personality than a game issue. Something that probably has haunted them for years if they have to control others in that fashion. As I’m sure you know, what someone uses in Destiny should be their choice and not matter to anyone else.
Anyway, enough on why those people are wrong and how there is no logic in their argument. I don’t want to waste your time in stating the obvious. The point is that Etheric Light made 100% of Destiny relevant. Any raid we wanted to run was relevant as was PoE since we could upgrade any weapons found in the “wild” to current standards. Let that sink in. 100% of your game, Destiny, was relevant! All weapons, all armor, all activities! I’m sure you can see how this is a good thing, you want people to play more, not less. As it stands now, only The Taken King is relevant as far as progression and end game play. Which would be fine if it was much larger or much better in all aspects than the previous combined playable game – which it falls very, very short of that goal.
Pre-Taken King economies – Bring them back. All of them. One of the main problems in Destiny (especially at Taken King) was the constant reinventing of the wheel. Tweaks, changes and adjustments are fine. But almost every expansion, instead of being excited, most of us were filled with dread on what was going to totally be changed for no reason and probably for the worse. I won’t list every item, your devs have it on file, but pre TTK faction rep gains, mote and weapon parts drops, vanguard and crucible marks and many others. None of that was broken, no reason to “fix” it. Put it back to how it was. There is nothing definitively better for the players with this new system we have had since TTK.
Stay the course – Once you have done the above 2 things, stop screwing with the game. Sit back, relax and rake in the cash. I have always said, HoW was the pinnacle of Destiny and many, many agree with me and this was mainly due to Etheric Light (seriously, get this back in asap). HoW is what convinced me to plop down my $80 for the CE edition of TTK despite Luke Smith (more on him later) and previous blunders and lies. Literally, all TTK needed to do coming off of HoW was this, add more enemies to shoot, add a new level cap, add new maps. That is it. Those 3 things and you would have been golden and Mr. Ryan would possibly still have his job. Instead, all of the negative things I mentioned earlier happened and here we are today.
Stop screwing the players – Every expansion we lost game playability in terms of relevance and we lost gear. Let’s be clear, this is not an MMO and not an RPG and frankly not even close to either of those. This is a FPS and damn good one. Like any FPS, I expect to have my full arsenal until a sequel comes out. Year 2 is not Destiny 2 and therefore there is absolutely no reason that I nor any other player should be handcuffed in our gear selection simply because something is Y1 or Y2. If Destiny is going to be done in installments such as Destiny 1, 2, 3 etc, then there is no logical explanation to lose my gear while still in an instance of one of those installments. Even if you were not doing sequel installments and simply adding expansions every few months, the motto is to “become legend” if I remember correctly and to “play how I want to play”. Well, I have no way of doing that when you force your will upon me as a player. Until this becomes an actual MMO, we should have access to ALL of our gear AND it be relevant to the current game at any time. Stop taking our gear away every expansion and then re selling it to us.
Communication – We need more of it and less condescension from Deej when it’s being delivered. We’ve also literally been lied to. Stop that. Frankly when I list a lot of these things, how Destiny still has players is almost mind boggling.
Luke Smith – His job status is not my concern. However, if he is going to stay at Bungie, I would suggest a “come to Jesus” meeting with him and muzzle him too. If you think he is a good creative talent, fine, but give him his marching orders that he needs to do the above suggested items and be creative with those items in mind in the future.
PvE – It needs to be focused on. Now. This is your core player base, address them.
PvP – I for one want to use my PvE found weapons and armor and play against other players. That makes Destiny unique. The problem is you have people more worried about their K/D than the game itself. Simple solution (easier said than done I’m sure but should be doable) make a K/D play list that is for the people who care about that and they get a set load out so no one can cry something is OP. Create a playlist for those of us that want to use our PvE weapons in a PvP format but not track our K/D permanently. Just tell us our K/D that match or something. I feel like this would appease both sides and stop the nerfs. Which speaking of………
Nerfs – Stop doing them. A sum total of 0 weapons in this game have ever been “game breaking” and only a few were OP and even then they were only OP in a PvP sense. Make those separate PvP environments I mentioned and PvE weapons should be good as is. Many need to be buffed and fixed from the previous year or nerfs. Good luck with that code. Destiny has literally become an internet meme for pock faced children crying for nerfs. That’s an embarrassment. Bring respect back to your game, show some back bone, stop the nerfs.
Matchmaking – We need it in game, not through LFG. However you want to figure that out, fine but make it in game.
Nighfalls and Weekly Heroic Strikes – Bring them back to how they were in Y1 and leave them alone.
Xur – Make him relevant again somehow. I don’t even think noobs use him and I only use him for heavy ammo. He’s a non-factor in Y2. I get that some of that is due to a lot of Exotics in Y2 are acquired through quests (which I like personally) so he can’t really sell them, but something needs to be changed here.
Leveling system – Scrap the light level system asap. Go back to just normalized number leveling like we had in Y1. If you keep light leveling, you need to standardize what you get in the raids. Normal should drop nothing but 310, hard nothing but 320. No ifs ands or buts. If you run hard raid, you should only get hard raid drops. Moldering shards should not be your only reward if you get anything at all. Take a cue from games like Borderlands and Diablo and spray me in the face with multiple high level loot sometimes. Not all the time but sometimes at least.
Smart loot – Loot should only be dropping at or above my current light.
I’m sure there is much more that we could add to the list and I encourage people to add to this post. But this should serve as a starting point. I’m a Day 1 player of Destiny and have logged many hours into this game. On reset days (Tuesdays) I used to race home, made sure nothing was on my schedule and would run through 3 nightfalls and 3 weekly heroic strikes on my 3 characters and then do some raids. All in one night and it was a blast. I stayed up way too late on work nights but I felt like a teenager again and it was awesome. I would play almost every day for a minimum of 3+ hours a day and could not get enough. Now, I barely log in and am unhappy when I do a lot of the times. There is nothing that presses me to get on at a certain time or spend hours in this game. You see what I am getting at here I assume?
That’s it for now I guess. Good luck to you and I look forward to seeing what’s to come. If this somehow made it to your desk and is more than just an exercise in futility for me, I want to thank you for taking the time to read it.
EDIT: I'm not active on Reddit (surprisingly) but Bungie seems to LOVE Reddit and other sites. I would encourage someone to re post this message and the post link on those sites as well. As much attention as we can draw to this list, the better. More discussion will hopefully move the needle with the goal being Mr. Parsons actually seeing this.
Thanks for the bumps so far! We've got it trending for now.

2 RepliesEdited by SunlightHeart: 2/1/2016 7:11:31 AMSorry, but regardless of how well thought out or well written your post is, you just turned me away from your side by trying to toss people who want to move away from year one legendaries opinions under the bus and play them off as "wrong" and "jealous". If that's what you think, you really are pretty close minded and only hear what you want to hear, filling in the blanks with whatever you think will make you right. Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and they all stink. Looking at your post, I can't say its all good.

I want them to scrap the current game and send all its players a copy of the game as it was during the beta but perfected and in doing so, allow it's players to take their characters into the perfected beta easily and modify their characters to fit within the perfected perfected betas layout. Only then will the original fan base come back to the game. After this, put PVP as a small facet of the game; not the current 80% of it.

Edited by OOODragonessOOO: 1/29/2016 9:10:20 PMalso i think the game should not allow skipping to the end. buying the spark ,come on, it just encouraging running to the end. then when those people play with those who played the whole game, they dont know anything ,dont know crota ,atheon ,but want to play it with us. it should progress like all other games through the story, then play athion, more story and missions, crota, again story, house of wolves then you can play ttk . it called progression. needs to happen. they need the experience ,story, play time.

Well-said sir, and a bump for this post!

4 RepliesEdited by Peace, Harbinger of Chaos: 1/29/2016 8:18:19 PMI guess, foremost, congratulations Mr. Parsons on your newest endeavor at Bungie! I But many of us saw this coming. I myself as a single individual have played this game almost every day since 9/9. But 4 weeks ago, I took a break. And to be honest, I didn't miss it much. A look at my stats show how many hours/days per character I have spent playing every day for about 16 months. With that said, the PvP side of the game clearly is where Activision and Bungie see continued profitability for the future. But for many of us, it is the PvE that kept us coming back. I can say I was doing about 6 Crota raid every week. And VOG at least 3 times a week. Then came HoW and the POE. This brought us many changes, but it killed the raid. Those 6 player teams that we worked hard to create, now were falling apart. I know at least half of our guys either lost interest or made up there own teams, of 3 players. The raid continued, but suffered. At the end of year one, and the start of TTK, was perhaps the greatest mistake of all. Suddenly 2 major AND I MEAN MAJOR screw ups occurred. First you introduced new players to an item that would advance them from level 1 or 2, to level 25. This took away the need for them to play the entire storyline as it was intended, and deprived newer players of so many experiences. No longer did the have to spend hours leveling up armor or weapons. It is like give a child something without them paying for it themselves. They won't appreciate what they have nearly as much. Also gone is the need to experience the exotic bounties, and the storyline as it was intended. The whole game saw so many changes, and with each change the players that built the game, saw Bungie say, all that you just spent the last 3, 6, 12 months on, was for not. Which brings me to my biggest sore spot. All of those great guns, and all that armor we busted or asses to get and upgrade, is now worthless scrap. Patience in Time, Icebreaker, Thorn, all junk. Let's not even mention Gjallarhorn. The GREAT ! weapons for VOG and Crota, and that armor, all crap. Of no use. So there is no need for the P.O.E, or Crota, or V.O.G. No use for Etheric Light. No use for shards, or energy parts. ... This is what killed your game. I loved my Vision of Confluence. I enjoyed Fatebringer. And the Vex, that was hell in PvP before the engineers got involved. Make the items of year one mean something ago. Idea. Take the Vision of Confluence. I need to max it out at year one level with Etheric light. I Cannot reforging it because it is a raid item. Now if I want to take it or any other year weapon and make it year two, I need to acquire something. You figure out what. But once I obtained said item, and infuse it into my year one Vision, it brings it up to level 220. The rest of the upgrade is based on the same current system of infusing high items into it. Same with the VOG gear, and Crota, and the HoW items. Rumour has it the game engineers decided Gjallarhorn was too much for the game. And that they didn't want elemental primaries. Ok I van live with that, but I busted my ass getting my weapons and gear up to level 170 only to be ____ed with my pants on and no kiss. Maybe the V.O.G and Crota and the P.O.E cannot be upgraded with the newer level difficulty. But you have completely destroyed the game by making the first year completely obsolete. I played with a new Christmas newb, who spent $30 on the Legendary verision. He made the comment, that a friend of his told him to skip V.O.G and Crotq, just work on getting to level 40/290 to get to Oryx. I told him he should play the game in the same sequence and do all the missions at least once. But he is convinced he just needs to work on getting to 290. I spent hours hunting chests on Mars looking for relic iron. I spent time soloing a N.F. to get fusion rifle killed, (before I got my first Vex.) I didn't reach light level 30 until the week before the Dark Below. I keep a Vision and an Ice break and a Fatebringer and a Fang, and Sword breaker on each character. And I had them all leveled up to 170 when TTK brought all our dreams crashing down. Enough, can I get some cheese with my whine. That is a brief rundown on my reasoning as to why the new guy in charge is screwed. I actually played Farming Simulator for a week while I am waiting for The Divison. I have most everything new, I just never got into Fallout 4 or Black Ops III. Destiny was all I cared about for 15-16 months. Hell I did the Devil"s Lair last night and it was a challenge because I was out of practice. Bring back all the old strikes, the new ones all the time have become boring. We'll enough, my cheese has arrived, Peace out.

Omg bullet points please, xD lbs and big bump at the same time

I love these ideas. Beta player here and have lost interest since my arsenal was taken away. Feel like all my time I put in was taken away with the taking all ur stuff king...
-
Pretty much this. Everything that my brain wants to say but my lazy fingers won't type. Bungie really need to address the community directly on all of the above points. The sideshow of timed events isn't fooling anyone. I love this game but there's literally no reason to play right now outside IB. Also can we get 310+ weapons outside the Frickkin raid. ? !
-
This deserves a response from the CEO himself.
-
you guys act like there starting from scratch, whatever Destiny is RIGHT now is what you get.... and without any indication..ie screen shots reveals, or even interviews on D2 you'll get more of the same...i said back when TTK drop that lack of any info on the "shattered sun" was bad news. and as months went by nothing. HAPPY new year and we have rumor delays ,CEO gets tossed and NO DLC for 2016 per Bungie ,looks like another fine years ...lube? 2000 Glimmer!

Edited by UndeadApocalyps: 1/29/2016 9:38:50 PM3 simple things to please this community 1. Talk to us, a lot. Wed rather hear that there's dlc or weapons or maps or whatever in the works rather than just hearing nothing. 2. dont make empty promises. Give us what you say you will, fix what you say you'll fix and don't mislead us. By misleading us I mean like What happened when TTK launched..... We all thought we were getting loads of new exotics and weapons, instead we got a few exotics with the rest being timegated and of all the other weapons you gave us 80% were just reskins of old stuff, if you said this from the start we wouldn't have been so bothered. 3. Fix everything. There's roo many glitches or cheeses to even try and list. there's really bad death lag in the crucible, I got killed by a sniper before with no clear line of sight at all, I'd run round the corner yet he was still able to headshot me and this has happened loads recently. Stop this kill for kill rubbish, if I'm dead then I shouldn't be able to kill the one who killed me regardless of when I fired my shot. Sort out snipers, they are literally destroying everything you worked hard for to try and rebalance all weapons and are ruling your crucible with an iron fist. Bring back elemental primaries (considering you gave us the zhalo) and give a variety of balanced ones so that we don't all use one primary weapon (which is why you took them out). Fix the raid drops. Fix crucible drops so that you have to place 4th or above to be granted a chance at an rng roll. Fix the nightfall rewards, they're literally trash. Bring back the old nightfall where you get kicked to orbit if you die......so yeah there's a lot in this section but it needs doing.

Bump. I want to further your light level point. If they want to stick with the current light system, than make something like etheric light that drops in raids that boosts your weapon and armor by 2-20 light levels depending on what it is currently. Example, if you have a 280 weapon you just got from iron banner. Infusing with etheric light would boost you by 20. Once you hit 300, it will boost you by 10. Once you're at 310, it will boost you by 5, than 3, than 2. At least this way you can have more avenues to boost your armor. You're not relying on 10 pieces if armor to get one piece to over 300.

Edited by UnwanteDreamz: 1/29/2016 8:56:16 PMI would hope that the CEO would get to see the passion some people have for this product. I would hope that this kind of thing would encourage them to create a better product. I just don't believe it will. Kuddos for trying though.

1 ReplySome of your points are good and valid. At least two of them is woefully misguided. If you make a playlist for "K/D types" only a portion of them will play that playlist. Instead, what you've created is an easier landscape for those to abuse the system and farm their K/D through regular gametypes knowing that some of their biggest "tryhard" opponents are playing in another gametype. That didn't fix anything, it only makes it worse. Not fixing weapons also will just lead to more complaints. People who know about multiplayer design know that not everything is perfect and that the game does need adjusting. No game is perfect and no game will ever be perfect. The community should always be complain about something even if it's minor. And when they find a new issue, fix them. The minute people stop complaining is the minute the game is dead because that means nobody cares enough about the game to express the easiest opinion to express. Bad weapon balance is like frostbite. You don't just ignore the frostbite on your foot; it will only get worse. If you don't nerf broken weapons people will eventually stop complaining but that would only happen because everyone stopped playing. Nobody wants that.

18 RepliesEdited by bobswerski: 1/29/2016 7:42:55 PMI'm glad you put some thought and effort into making an otherwise solid post, but lets try to not misrepresent ourselves as having the only "correct" opinions and definitively speaking for the majority of the playerbase. I am a beta player and disagree with a great many points you make: - Nerfs are sometimes necessary but should be nuanced, not broad strokes. I just about tune out anyone who says "no weapons should ever be nerfed" or "never nerf, always buff" because that demonstrates the absence of objectivity and a glaring lack of understanding of how weapon balancing works. That's not opinion, but fact. - There were plenty of Y1 weapons that were OP in both PvE and PvP. Everyone loves black spindle and it's highly sought after as an exotic even though it's a worse version of a Y1 legendary. Enough said there. - Etheric light was EZ mode and totally took the challenge out of everything. The current infusion system, if you are able to separate your displeasure over bad drops and look at it purely on it's own merit as a mechanic, is actually a quite elegant solution that can easily result in a smooth linear progression of "power." The answer, as you mention (while contradicting yourself, oddly) is smarter loot. If all loot dropped within +/- 5 or even 10 of your current light level nobody would have a major problem with this system. But since they can't see the forest for the trees they blame infusion. - Fixing Xur is easy and already underway. He just needs to sell Y2 engrams more often, like the 2 previous weeks. He was never supposed to be your primary source of exotics and with 3oC it's pathetically easy to get them now anyway. - I hated the old economies. Farming shards is not something I miss, and having 3 different kinds of currency spread across multiple characters was really annoying. I would completely agree if you wanted to raise the cap on legendary marks and make them available from daily/weekly activities on all 3 chars but going back to the old, more complicated economy is not the great idea you think it is. - Finally, I'll just leave this here:
http://www.feministe.us/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/delicate.jpg
regarding Deej and Luke Smith. Could communication be better? No question. But y'all need to unbunch your panties and grow a... sense of humor. They aren't your senator or clergy, they're guys who make video games for a living. Relax and stop throwing tantrums like a 4 year old when they make some sarcastic remark. Good lord. (FYI - the bungie guys go to reddit because this place is a cesspool in comparison. Over there the mods actually enforce the rules and douchebaggery is not tolerated. It's where the adults go to talk.)

I picked this up week 2. I would like this game to reflect the passion and level of fun it gave me that month I played. This game is use to be filled wonderful space magic of completely OP everything! But once whiny PvP players started matter more, and take a game WAY to seriously players started getting their way this game went to shit. Xur, sold top tier. 5 synths. Nightfalls were meaningful and a good time which also gave you top tier. Just some of MANY examples how this game use to be amazballs!!! No one at Bungie will read this, but I don't care. Bring back the smile this game use to give me!!!

1 ReplyI play destiny almost daily and I wholeheartedly agree on majority of the issues mentioned by H Town Balla 80 and many, many others. This video presented by My name is Byf with clips from TripleWreck, DattoDoesDestiny, King Gothalion, MoreConsole, and the guys from Planet Destiny overall shares the same view and in my opinion presents it well. A lot of major things get talked about here and around the 14:50 mark of the video, while he himself calls it a pipe dream, with enough people to back it up something like this could be realized. Everyone knows the problems right? I believe it would be nice as well if bungie could get the players more involved with the major stuff that goes on to improve the game overall from where it is now like byf talks about.

1 ReplyEdited by Narconomic: 1/29/2016 3:20:18 PMI feel you are missing some details, saying 'PvE fix It' isn't going to get us anywhere, list out the shit from PvE that needs to go or be changed, i'll give you one, RNG, double, triple fecking RNG. Many of your criticisms can be explained simply in that they happened because Bungie had to stretch out 1 games worth of content over 2 years while they go onto Destiny 2 and that's now going to be more like 3 years. If I remember back to Vanilla upto TTK I probably would have cleared all of it in 2 months if it weren't for their RNG and chopping the content. So for the other 2 years 10 months i'd have just been fecking board with annoying PvP and same old no point weekly rotating events...oh wait that's exactly what has happened just broken up into disappointing DLC's. Light level's fine as long as there is as you say smart loot (which they promised there was for TTK, another lie!) Infusion on all gear -blam!- yes, Etheric light to boost yes, get rid of that shit 70-80% transfer from light level. It should be like for like, I shouldn't have to use 3 bloody high level weapons or armour just to get one from 310 to 320. Reforging, bring that back. I don't want to grind the same shit just to wear the gear I want with the perks I want. Larger sub class trees, gear that increases spec class perks.. I could go on but I've done this to may times. Well done for the effort, glad there's still people about that can be bothered.
