i know everyone is worried about how they 'll change and balance the BR but i mean come on is the spartan laser going to be included as well i mean i read the books and it says absolutly nothing any ideas ??

I agree with you completely Warlord. But the Stanchion was described as a miniature MAC gun and Staten said it punched through two office buildings and still had enough force to completely obliterate the part that the bullet impacted on.
Posted by: NY EL1T3 312 true but if these mlg guys think there so good why don't they try this but it could take down a warthog pretty easily too if i read correctly what you sent me
Well, Warthogs are actually pretty well armored. It's still quite light but a Stanchion wouldn't penetrate reliably. But it would punch through the windshield better than the sniper rifle. But I've been on both ends of a tank spree and I can tell you the Sp'laser doesn't need nerfing against them. I disagree that the Sp'laser needs nerfing at all really, the charge time and very limited number of shots balance it very well I think. It's not like a Sp'laser turns vehicles into death traps, and it's not like vehicles are meant to be indestructible killing spree magnets either.
Posted by: Hylebos
Posted by: NY EL1T3 312 but i didn't like how once you pick it up you pretty much run the whole map and can laser a guys from your base to his
This is what I meant by the "vehicle vs anti-vehicle weapon balance." With the spartan laser, there is no balance. If you have one, all the vehicles are dead until you are out of ammo. And once you are out of ammo, all your infantry are dead until it spawns again. Rocket launchers and sticky grenades are nice, but most smart drivers don't get close enough for you to be able to use them effectively, and the missle pod not only has very low ammo but also tends to get burned all on one target because people are idiots.
I really agree with you. Infact, I made a thread that talks about this too. Here's part of it:
This weapon kind of kills the joy of vehicle combat. Once someone has it, consider the vehicles destroyed. So I've come out to three options: Option A: Make the Spartan Laser like a Sentinal Beam on steroids. What I mean is that when it charges (which should also be longer), it fires in a continous beam that is enough to put reasonable damage (2/3) to a vehicle, but to actually inflict the full 2/3 damage, you have to keep the beam to the vehicle. While this sounds easy, the beam's accuracy starts to dramatically decreases reasonably with added recoil. And it should only contain 4-6 shots. Option B: Take it out completely and add lock-on to the rocket launcher. Not Halo 2 Lock-on, but a lock on that'll home in but then if a vehicle makes a quick move, it will lose track of it and not hit it. But their should be no indicator to the vehicle if the rockets are locked on. Option C: Make an entirely different anti-air vehicle.
Yeah and if you wanna see the full thread on weapon balancing, here's the link: Halo Reach Weapons and Balancing
Posted by: EldritchWarlord
Posted by: NY EL1T3 312 i mean an anti material rifle that with enough skill could point blank stop a scorpian driver in his tracks would be awesome and would love it over a new laser
But that tiny bullet would realistically just ricochet or impact harmlessly on that reinforced canopy 9 times out of 10. It might be a neat weapon but it's certainly no Sp'laser analog, what with it being ineffective against anything more heavily armored than a Mongoose.
true but if these mlg guys think there so good why don't they try this but it could take down a warthog pretty easily too if i read correctly what you sent me

ok now that the laser deliemma is done now lets talk how to improve the assult rifle so its actually usable at high medium range and make it more like an actual assult rifle if i know the definition correctly

Yeah basically its just a super version of the Barett .50 cal.
Posted by: EldritchWarlord
Posted by: NY EL1T3 312 ok wait shoulder fired or handheld and i a good idea but may be too much recoil which may solve the whole balance of the splazer
It's like a very large rifle. Educate yourself.
thanks but its not that big its looks maybe like its 3-4 inches longer than the standard sniper rifle from halo 3
Posted by: Hylebos You know, my American History book never mentioned Australia, so it must not have existed back then.
Cause an AMERICAN History book would talk about Australia. Try a world history book.

What Ive read in Contact Harvest made me believe that it does not have as much recoil as you'd think but I dont know. Maybe...
Posted by: cerberous226 Well I think it should be replaced by the M99 Stanchion gauss rifle. Here's a description of it: The weapon, a two meter long tube of linked magnetic coils, accelerated small projectiles at very high speed.
That's an anti-material rifle, and an anti-personnel sniper rifle in a pinch. If you hit the canopy on a Scorpion or Wraith just right you might kill the driver but that's the extent of its anti-armor capabilities. EDIT: And FYI, an M99 Stanchion is a smaller version of a guass turret. [Edited on 10.26.2009 6:31 PM PDT]

Well no and yes. The gauss turret on the Warthog was kind of like the Splazer. This is more like a rifle version of a MAC cannon.
-
so basically the guass warthog turrent just made into a shoulder fired direct weapon if i understand correctly [Edited on 10.26.2009 6:26 PM PDT]
Posted by: NY EL1T3 312 bro im joking im a yankee fan you just made me mad by calling me so eloquent
Oh ok, well good then. I was just being sarcastic so don't take it to heart. And you shouldn't say anything bad about the Yankees if you are indeed a fan - everyone else in the country is rooting against them (out of jealousy, of course) so we need to provide all the praise we can to will them to victory. We will win this year, on CC's 300lb back.

i know but i created it so i can change the topic around a bit but nahhh i wont its for the laser i was just making a point man
Posted by: NY EL1T3 312 mark texiera...........first love the name and good ideas man but i think the BR should be they're first fix for reach close second is the laser
Thanks, I'm glad you love it. I'm sure there's a lot of things Bungie could be/is working on too, but I think this thread is about the spartan laser so that why i focused on it. And as for the Yankees - they just made it to the world series so they're running out of time to choke. So far the two teams facing them (twins, angels) have choked. The Phillies are in for a battle. It should be an epic series. [Edited on 10.26.2009 6:16 PM PDT]

i hope the yankees choke in the playoffs
Posted by: NY EL1T3 312 or someone is a very bad shot and they totally miss but then again if you miss with the laser you should quit halo and go to a -blam!-er game like call of duty i heard its easier
Absolutely, no sense in trying to get better or perhaps just trying to enjoy yourself since it's just a video game. Just give up and hang your head in shame. It's not about having a lot of people get together to have fun playing Halo...it's about satisfying the uber-skilled who have no patience for people trying to learn and improve their game. You're so eloquent, NYELwhatever. [Edited on 10.26.2009 6:11 PM PDT]
Posted by: Hylebos I mean, as it is, the only way for a vehicle to dodge a spartan laser is to stay out of sight. Surely there must be a better solution.
I've always thought that the painting/targeted beam could/should be more visible to the person/vehicle being targeted. Adding a second (yea probably just 1 second would do) to the charge time might make a difference as well. Combined with a better warning system (more visible painting/targeting beam), it would give the person/vehicle more time react and find cover. Of course people would adapt and learn to use the splaser more discreetly (ie: following the enemy with the charging/targeting beam as opposed to leading them with it, and charging up while in cover and painting their target at the last second). But that is actually a good thing - it would turn the splaser into more of a skill weapon.
