So, I was reading Destiny's patch notes for the One That -blam!-ed The Solar Hammers.
I noticed that they tweaked everything.
Nothing was tweaked more than 20%; most tweaks were ~10%.
"Sp why does my titan feel like a little b1tch now?"
Weeeeellll, Bungie can't bloody do maths, so they don't (can't have...) realised the cumulative effect of the changes.
Let's look at aim, for instance.
They reduced the splash radius of the hammer 20%. That means the area of effect is basically halved (cos Pythagoras - AoE is now 64%).
You reduce the autoaim by 25%.
You reduce the velocity by 9%.
So now your chances of hitting someone are 75% * 64% * 91% = 43%.
Yes, you used to be TWO AND A HALF TIMES more likely to hit someone, pre-patch.
Throw in the 10% resistance nerf. The 1 point armour reduction. That's another 90% * 90% * 43% = 35%.
Yes. They nerfed the solar titan by 2/3rds.
Balancing patch my a55.
[EDIT] Just remembered they said "Sun breaker titan is running a 1.1 KD in crucible, which is way too high". Then they didn't give the figures for Bladedancer or Gunslinger, only noting "other KDs are in the 0.9-1.06 region". I wonder what class is rocking a 1.06 KD...
[EDIT 2] There seems to be a confusion as to "Maths" vs "Math" being the acceptable spelling for the, ah, topic of applied logic.
To clarify: the British spelling is "maths"; the US one appears to be "math". If we're going to be pedantic, the root word is mathimatika, which is Greek for "learnings" (technically justifying the British 's').
However, Europeans, AFAIK, do not abbreviate - they all say "mathematics", or the local variant of the word, in full. Only anglophones seem to abbreviate the word.
It is worth noting how many Americans have had their "math" statement autocorrected to "maths". Just saying...
[EDIT 3] Surprising how many people confuse Pythagoras' Theorem (about right angle triangles) with Pythagoras' number (used to calculate geometrical properties of a circular shape, also derived by, whoda thought, Pythagoras).
[EDIT 4] I'm an idiot, Pi is not "Pythagoras' number". Although it can be derived from Pythagoras' theorem, apparently. So I hear.
I'll leave the original statement as it stands, for posterity.

Bungie made sunbreaker take skill because of maths
Fixed for you
-
4 RepliesJust came here to say multiplying random sheet does not = other random probabilities. All this post shows is your ability to multiply and make huge logical leaps. That being said idk man never play sun breaker. They are killable now which is a must for roaming supers.
-
1 ReplyDidn't read... Sun breaker subclass is still an all round good class... And ppl still run the opposite direction when they hear a random hammer hit an anvil.. Game sounds = 0 Justin bieber full album = 100 Oh baby baby oh baby try me mother-blam!-er I can't hear shit
-
They really hit it hard. Too many tweaks added up
-
Sorry, but probability doesn't work like that.
-
1 ReplyWhiny little bitches killed sunbreakers. But by all means, continue trying to sidestep the blame.
-
2 RepliesRegarding Edit 3, you're an idiot. Pythagoras had nothing to do with the discovery of Pi, the name 'Pi' comes from the Greek letter representing the word 'Periphery' and was first used by Euler. Pi was first used by the Babylonians and expanded upon by Archimedes. Whoda thought...
-
3 RepliesAt least people aren't aware of the power of sun charge yet. Gonna enjoy it for as long as I can before people start complaining about that too.
-
The only thing that pissed me off about the nerf was hammer travel speed and blast radius of the explosions. Had they left those two things alone Sunbreakers would still be good.
-
10 RepliesAll you feckers defending Bungie for what they did to Sunbreakers, are just pure ignorant -blam!-s.... Let they show me a fancy shmancy chart about how NO ONE uses Sunbreakers anymore and how they managed to murder a whole sub class because of you whiney little turds and their shear incompetence when it comes to nerfs/buffs and rebalancing....
-
Cool post, will check your math later.
-
Thought "maths" was poking fun at bungie, was disappointed
-
They left it at 0.04%
-
I think they should have kept everything the same except for reduced time (right now its 27 seconds and 7 hammers max with forgemaster) to about 18 seconds and 5 max hammers with forgemaster.

1 ReplySomeone bump for later plz

4 Replies*Gets rekt by Hammer of Sol *Bungie nerfs Subreakers *Me- goes to forums *Reads this post *Goes back to Crucible *Gets rekt by Hammer of Sol (눈_눈) They were nerfed, you say? "My Sunbreaker feels like a bitch now," you say?
balancing patch my a55
4 RepliesHere's what I think a buff for them should be. -Fix the blast radius bug and boost blast radius so it's in between post nerf and pre nerf. -Tracking should be what it was but at a cost of agility and recovery. No boosts. -Sunspots should do a bit more damage. -Thermite grenades damage should be buffed so it can kill a guardian. -Reduce healing cool down from 3 seconds to 1.5 seconds -Explosive pyre applies to grenade and melee.

1 ReplyEdited by Doctavius: 1/17/2016 11:37:16 PMI still feel titans over all subclasses are a little over the top but not as bad. for just sunbreaker anymore... more striker.. not much bubbles

I still main Sunbreaker and still do fine with it, but I will invite this post for the whole maths argument. ;) I think Sunbreakers did need toning down, but they did seem to overdo it. It probably only needed one, or maybe two of the three changes, but not all three, at least if they plan to keep the other new subclasses the way they are. I imagined they were going to tone the subclasses down to the power balance of the original subclasses, but it seems the new subclasses are the new normal, in which case they should beef up the old subclasses to the power of the new subclasses.
-
2 RepliesYou know what.... The hammers should also be reduced to only 4.
-
53 RepliesNope they did it correct, they brought sunbreakers down to the same level as the other subclasses, as they needed to be. You're only complaining because it's no longer a killing machine and it shouldn't be.

Poor maths kills everything.
grades, opportunities.
