King's Fall has too many mechanics; it ruined the raid experience

One of the reasons I stopped playing religiously (hardly play at all anymore) is because I'm a mostly PVE player in Destiny and the raid just went sour with me. I got tired of having to switch between multiple groups to finish Oryx because people kept dying or couldn't handle the mechanics. I feel like Bungie went a little overboard from having a mechanic that really just involved one person to forcing everyone to be a part of the mechanics. I miss the days where you could just go into Vault of Glass, have a few people who knew how to use a relic and the rest could shoot stuff. It was simple, and fun. I honestly think the community can only handle what we were given in terms of the mechanics in year one. With King's Fall, it became a chore to put a group together who was competent enough to do it all. I don't want to know how many hours are collectively wasted from finding a good solid group. Used to have a good group of friends to run raids with too but they all quit before hard mode even came out. Frankly, the terrible RNG didn't help either. The entire raid just is way too tedious to be fun compared to Vault of Glass. EDIT: Love all the comments insulting me. Some great counter-points there. If you had actually read what I'm saying I'm not someone who begs to be carried and I'm a good player. The majority of the community cannot handle the mechanics so I'm really complaining about them. EDIT 2: I did not say that King's Fall is difficult. I am saying to me it is now more of a chore when you add up all the things involved. Getting a good group, triple RNG loot, pointless jumping puzzles that just waste time...

  • I actually love this raid. The fact that you have to work as a team to complete it is great. I enjoy taking new players through and teaching them how to do it. I would have taken about 20 people through the raid for the first time, some of them haven't done any raids before. It is the teamwork that makes this raid unique. I agree, its not a hard raid, but it does require teamwork and communication which I think is great. What is the point of having a mode where you can have six people in it if you only need one or two? To you I say the challenge is not the raid itself but to teach other people the mechanics so they can get through it with you. I am not saying this is you, but I have seen too many people that whine about people not being able to do the raid, but will not offer any constructive advice on how they should do it. To people like that I say be helpful and teach. Complaining doesn't help anyone. After I have done my three hard raids on reset night, the rest of the week I am happy to go on LFG and help people out with raids. Its called being helpful to the Destiny community. So if you know the mechanics teach others, then there will be more people who know how to do it and you will get it done quicker, making it more enjoyable.

Yeah, adding an all or none mechanic to everything made it more of a pain than anything. then oryx being like, have some shards, makes it not worth doing unless it is the challenge, and even then, meh. lol. Make the rewards worth it, reskin the vault/crota weapons or add some elements into these, just make it worth finishing

  • That's why I've never done the raid. I did VoG like 8 times and Crota 3-4 times and I liked them. Everytime i try to do KF ppl just get mad that i have trouble with the mechanics. Im honestly not bad, people r just impatient

  • Idk but VoG was kinda boring. Like the oracle/conflux part. KF is a lot more entertaining because everyone has to do their jobs and each fight is never the same.

  • I've only completed the raid 8 or 9 times because i got bored with it. it's just painful getting a group together. and the fact that you can complete the raid and not get 1 single weapon/armor at all during the entire raid (on all 3 characters in one weekend) is just trash. true story. haven't touched the raid for over a month now.

  • I enjoy the new KF raid but I agree it can be hard to get a competent team using LFG. Sometimes I find a team that can beat oryx challenge mode in first try but most of the time it's unbelievably hard to find a good group. Is it me or does everyone want to cheese totems now? Why it's really easy if you work together.

  • Aww, is it too hard for you? Do you want a 170 light version? Good fricking luck...

Well I remember being with a level 31 fireteam and thinking Crota was absolutely impossible. But over time, more people learned the Raid, and new strategies were developed. King's Fall does have some tedious mechanics, but a lot of players suck at it because they are never given a chance to learn it. I just did hard mode for the first time yesterday and we couldnt even beat Oryx. It supposed to be hard. This raid also doesn't have ridiculous cheeses like the other 2.

  • Its probably the easiest hard raid yet imo. Doing vog or crota underlevelled seemed much worse.

  • I think im fine with most of it until you get to oryx...they really overdid that encounter.

  • You are literally lying to yourself if you expect anyone to believe that you aren't saying the raid is difficult here... if you thought it wasnt difficult this post would not exist.

  • Good post...on point! The 'fun' element is missing...jumping through countless hoops for possibly hours in end - ain't fun; it's a chore...a real bore! And for what ('rewards')??? I'm NFI...as the fight ain't worth the candle; and, surprisingly, my M8s who are VoG runners - ain't interested either. That did surprise me! So, horses for courses, then... OP: Ignore ill-mannered comments from Team Desticles...they can't help it...they're like the Daleks... Chin-Up & Grind On, Guardians!

  • I completely agree. All you needed was one of your buddies in VoG with you and the two of you could carry the rest. Cant do that in KF. Its frustrating.

    • REWARDS JUST NOT WORTH THE EFFORT AND TIME! And yes, I am one of those players that can not finish the whole raid in less than an hour total.

    • I thought the same way at first. I joined a 100 group and started joining and starting raid groups from there. The first time we did it took us 3 weeks of steady playing but we just kept at it until everybody knew the mechanics and was high enough light to get it done. Now we can run it in 2-3 hours (yeah, I know there's groups that can speed run it faster but we're not one of them) I think the biggest difference with this raid is that it's not very forgiving to weak links. 2 or 3 good players could carry a group through VOG but everybody needs to know what to do and do it in King's Fall. I agree about the jumping puzzles, I think they are artificial difficulty and shouldn't have a place in a FPS.

      • Dude, the raid is an end game activity. If certain people cant beat it then they need to practice and get better. There arent too many mechanics. It is an easy raid, it really is. Problem is most people are not very good. On the flip side, if there were no mechanics people would complain that it is too simple. They made it hard enough to be a challenge (at first) and easy enough to let everyone beat it.

I disagree. I like this raid because of all the mechanics involved. No one is "carried" through the the raid, and everyone must do their part to complete each encounter. I understand that finding a good raid team of patient people is sometimes tough, but through LFG I have found a great group of many players that I raid with multiple times a week. I've completed this raid over 136 times and enjoy the many roles that I have played whether it was ad duty, running relic, or taking gaze. Not one person, but the team will help you complete Kings Fall. That to me is the definition of a raid.
