If you have a 1.0 kdr...

You're above average, it doesn't matter what anybody says, they're not thinking about it. Let me explain, for every single kill, there is a death, which gives a global 1.0 kdr. After that factor in suicides, that leads to a slightly negative kdr globally. So if you have a 1.0 kdr, you're above average statistically speaking, don't let anyone tell you different. Also, people that want to bring your kd into an argument that has nothing to do with anything are grasping at straws because they can't make a legitimate argument against something you say. Edit: There are people saying that this is to simple, that the mean average needs to be looked at. Basically if you take every players individual kdr, and then average all of them, I would be interested in knowing that number of bungie would like to do the work to get it, but I would still think this would work out to be slightly less than 1, if someone can explain how that may not be true I would like to know Edit: Adding this quote from Sixclicks, if this is accurate then it's still very close to 1
To add to my other reply and answer your question in your edit, the average KDR is actually 1.049424. You can get this number from Guardian.gg by looking at the average KDR of each subclass and the subclass distribution percentages. So these are the numbers: Sunbreaker: 1.06 kdr, 18.63% Stormcaller: 1.04 kdr, 8.76% Gunslinger: 1.09 kdr, 13.98% Defender: 1.01 kdr, 2.14% Striker: 1.03 kdr, 8.6% Bladedancer: 1.11 kdr, 11.37% Sunsinger: 1.01 kdr, 12.98% Voidwalker: 1.05 kdr, 8.27% Nightstalker: 1.01 kdr, 15.26% So what you do is simply weight each kdr by subclass distribution percentage and then add it up. So you get: (1.06 x .1863) + (1.04 x .0876) + (1.09 x .1398) + (1.01 x .0214) + (1.03 x .086) + (1.11 x .1137) + (1.01 x .1298) + (1.05 x .0827) + (1.01 x .1526) = 1.049423
Edit: it has been explained to me that what I'm looking at is a global kill per death ratio, as opposed to a kill death ratio per player, which in fact may be above one if you were to take each individual players actual kdr, and average them in that manner you would wind up with a completely different number. I can see how that would work, and I would be very interested in seeing the actual average kdr per player, on a global scale. However I still say anything that is positive is good, you help your team in terms of killing more than you die on a consistent basis.

Honestly a better baseline would be too look at the number of global kills vs the number of global deaths in crucible. This would actually be the global kd that would function as the base line for if a 1.0 kd is above average or not. by global i mean add up all the kills and deaths of every player in destiny in the crucilbe then use that as the global kdr. I think this kdr would probably be closer to the 1.0 kd average that people give.

THIS!!! ALSO, Improve (PAD) your K/D by sitting in the back of maps with a sniper rifle or Mida tool or both! If you are chased, run and hide. Or run backwards and SHOOT FORWARDS! Only kill from hidden nooks and crannys. Stay still and crouch if enemies appear on radar, thats too close for comfort. Play Hunter to go invisible when ever possible. Hard-scope high traffic areas on daily crucible playlists or maps you have already played 500 times to kill PVE noobs looking for legendary marks. You will improve (PAD) your K/D in no time. Then bring your self righteous ass to these boards and call anyone out on “their” K/D because you have zero ability to critically think for yourself! It’s that EASY!!!!!

              • Incorrect, this is a statistical anomaly. Poorer players will die more often, thereby skewing the kill ratio. You could have a 1.0 KDR and still be in the bottom 30% of players quite easily.

                    • Do we wanna know the average kd or the kd of a theoretical person that has the total kills, deaths and suicides of every guardian to ever play? I don't know about you but I would rather know the average kd. Here's another example and these 2 variables don't have a direct impact on each other and it still doesn't work. Player A goes 150 miles over 3 hours (50mph) Player B goes 150 miles over 2 hours (75mph) 300 miles over 5 hours = 60 mph (50mph+75mph)/2 players = 62.5 mph Or think about sports.. 1 team has to win, 1 team has to lose. Team A finishes 4 and 2 (2.0 w/l ratio, different than win %) Team B finishes 3 and 3 (1.0) Team C finishes 2 and 4 (0.5) Again total number of wins is 9 and losses is 9. (1.0 win/loss) But (2 + 1 + .5)/3 = 1.17 They are 2 different things and as far as what we are talking about the later is more relevant. The only time they come out the same is when 0 is involved (2-0 and 0-2 for example) but that's only on a very small scale (1 match with 1 player having 0 deaths and 1 player 0 kills). Globally it wouldn't matter.

                          • True. I was about to say it might make you look better than you really are due to kills on player who were AFK or not paying attention, but that probably balances with the negative from non-combat deaths like walking backwards off a cliff...

                              • All I care about is holding my own in a match and winning the game if it's objective based. I could make my k/d ratio better by playing ultra cautious but that would bore me so I play for fun. Got roughly 1.0, 1.1 overall kd on each character. K/d means nothing to me anymore.

                              • I would make an educated guess (zero factual evidence) that the median player is around 0.8 give or take 0.1. For example, if 6,000,001 people played destiny. 3 million are better and 3 million are worse. He / she is the 'average player'.

                              • Game mode also has a large effect on said K/D analysis. Clearly someone that devotes 100% to rumble and does very well has a different view of "skill" than someone that plays objective based modes purely. But I agree overall with what you're saying. The "meat" of the community resides around .8 or so, the above average is 1.0ish. Everything 1.5 and above (average across game modes) is likely a highly invested and very knowledgeable (from pvp perspective AT LEAST) player.

                                • I play Crucible/IB strictly solo and have a running 1.11/1.18 K/D and a 1.64/1.74 K+A/D. Those are fine, but because I strictly play Control (with occasional other modes to get Marks) it is the Zone control stats that matter. I am currently top 2% in zones controlled and top 1% in zones neutralized. I am also top 3% in assists/game and top 5% in assists over all characters. In the end those numbers mean next to nothing. I play for fun and always have my characters maxed in IB before Friday. If your game life revolves around your K/D then you should really rethink your life.

                                • The ppl with the highest k/d's are the ppl who sit in the back of the map and snipe or who use their sniper as a primary. That playstyle is going to lend to a higher k/d but if you're more of a run and gunner, you're gonna have more deaths. Me personally, I'd rather have a game with 20 kills and 20 deaths rather than sit in the back of the map and g0 10-2.
