I'm fairly new to the Taken King, and I'd just like a clear understanding of how these coins work. Here's all I know:
1) They increase your chance of an exotic drop after your next ultra kill
2) They can stack
Here's what I don't know
1) How much do does each coin increase your chance by?
2) Does the chance increase exponentially when you stack them or is it linear?
3) How many can you stack?
4) Do your chances decrease the longer it takes for you to kill the ultra?
5) What's your chance of an exotic drop without 3oC?
And is there anything else I should know? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

I tried farming Draksis and didn't get any engrams through 7 or so ToC uses, one at a time. I also didn't give it any cooldown, so that might have been a problem. Then I went onto the Dreadnaught and stacked 3 or so and killed Blaghrish and got an Exotic. The next time I stacked 3 and killed an Ultra I got nothing so I don't really know how they work. Just telling about how my ToC played out, interpret how you will.

1 ReplyThere is a white board at Bungie where they have the most interesting/ridiculous player theory on 3oC usage posted and they all laugh at once or twice a day. Here is mine: I find that if I take 13 3oC, then log out of Destiny, then log back in, visit Petra and pick up any strike related bounties she has, then start a SIVA, but bail as soon as I land, then go into a Crucible match, get a seven kill streak going, but then just stop playing and my team wins, that I will get an exotic at a rate of .03 percent more frequently than if I had played Titan Fall 2.

11 RepliesThe fact that you had to make this post is just further proof that Bungie hates its customers. Why wouldn't they just say, explicitly, how three of coins works? It's a system with arbitrary rules that they created; it's not an intuitive, common sense thing that we could work out ourselves.

2 RepliesSo, in stark contrast with everyone else on this forum, I recommend stacking two. THEY DO STACK. The math the people in here are proposing makes absolutely no sense from a programming standpoint, the most likely system for three of coins is that of a percentage increase. SO The most efficient use of three of coins is to be doing activities that already have an increased chance of dropping an exotic item I.E. Raid bosses, Strike Bosses, Prison of Elders Bosses(currently rocking a 100% drop rate per two coins in there after 6 runs on 260 LL across two party members...) and by doing this you're increasing the loot tables drop rate(because they do drop in the wild... at an obscenely low rate) you'll see the best results killing bosses that already drop exotics. The 100% is probably a streak outlier though.

1 ReplyEdited by Neutrill: 1/9/2016 7:26:45 PMWe will never know exactly. I've been bored and done some testing. I've used 8-12 at once a few times and 2/3 times it'll drop an exotic. If it doesn't though, I don't believe it stacks with the next batch. I say this because it hasn't altered the results of my next method at all. Going 1 at a time every 20+ minutes is your best bet though. When I waited 30mins between usage I averaged 1 in 3/ 1 in 4. My odds were the same regardless of using 10 at a time on my previous attempt. I experiment with them so don't think me using 8-12 at once was a waste. It's for science.

7 RepliesExotics don't drop in the wild without them. What they do is make it so that the next time you kill an ultra (works in raids too), you get a good percentage of a chance to get a random exotic engram. You can use them in Pvp as well.
-
6 RepliesHere's what you should know 1. They don't stack, you'll just end up wasting coins 2. When you kill an ultra your chances decrease by a few percent, but every time 3oC is active when you kill an ultra and it doesn't drop anything your chances go up a few percent.

8 RepliesEdited by Baba-Looey: 1/9/2016 4:25:37 AMI wouldn't wait till your next Ultra kill. Just be concerned about the cool down period. And yes, never stack them. I start my routine with a ToC. Had many exotics drop on my first Ultra while running bounties. Use them in strikes, pvp and when doing Level 3 Court. Rumor has it they don't work in the Dust Palace because the Psions are only majors, but damn, I had 2 purples decrypt to exotics while doing a Heroic for Refer-a-friend yesterday. That was just crazy. Bottom line, strange coins are basically useless, so buy lots of ToCs and use them all the time. I burn 50-100 a week. One final note. If you can decrypt your exotics while your Light Level is 311+, they'll all be 310s. Good luck.

Bungie didn't give us an actual value 2. If they do stack it's not by a relevant value (0.04%?) and it probably drops off (like the shape of the 9-12 on a clock) 3. I assume as many as you can but as i said with the clock they would eventually become useless to stack 4. Nope 5. 0-0.04%

When I do crucibl, I use my 3oc near the the end of the match. To me it also helps to be winning. Makes me not burn through them this way as well. Oh also I tend to get some exotics in pvp when bounties are completed as well.

Ive stacked 20 at once ang got nothing. (Stacking is bs) but avarage 1 every 10 ultra kills
-
Mostly anecdotal but I avg 2 exotics per 5 coins Doesn't matter if you use it 15 seconds before ultra is killed still works Use one at a time Wait 15 min after killing ultra to pop next one No idea how that works with crucible yet If you pop one one day right before you get off and then use it later seems to have a higher chance. I'll play like every other day and when I remember to coin it seems like I get one first activity I do
-
Take one and do a heroic strike (or kill an ultra) and if the coin does not work the stackable comes in so the next coin you use has a higher success rate. The coin last till you kill an ultra (no penalty for time limit) and it takes around four or five strange coins to get an exotic.

7 RepliesUse them linear... Just one at a time. I believe it's still random, so I don't think there is a certain number you can use that will guarantee an exotic. Average is probably 1 exotic every 5 three of coins. For the first time I got exotics on consecutive coins yesterday.

Edited by TheWickedZaku: 1/8/2016 10:36:09 PMYou take them before fighting a boss. Or every other strike before fighting a boss. Works on the boss round in poe Every other match in crucible. Personally I just take one everytime. Sometimes I'm surprised and get two in a row. There is supposed to be an unseen cool down of 11 minutes. That's about it man. Edit. I don't know percentages or anything. I just know I use them and either I get one or I don't.
