Each pack of strings around $60 and bought 7 of them since I own seven guitar. Cobalt wound high quality Ernie Ball strings.
So I come home from the gym and everything is fine. I go to my room, get undressed, and get ready for a shower. But then I turn around to my wall where my guitars are all hanging on their respected wall stands. It was like turning to a horror scene. All the strings, cut, the tool used to do it was even sitting on my night stand. Wire cutters. The only person who could have done it was my nephew. May I remind you that I was steamed and about to explode.
So I go to him and rip into him, he then has the audacity to say "common Mick chill out it was a prank." At that point I exploded and was close to plundering a hammer into his head. So now he has to pay me back the estimated total (including tax) of 424.78 so I can replace my strings that he cut.
Well how exactly is he going to make that money? Well lucky for him he turned 16 a few months ago and double lucky, THE JOB I WORK AT IS HIRING. So today I forced him to fill an application and then had a person talk with my boss (which whom I'm really good friends with cause I've known the guy since I was a kid) and now he works as a dish washer at the restaurant I work at till he can pay me back.
So what's your guy's take on this? Am I being to cruel or is this proper justice?
Edit: so I not only served proper justice but I also helped him in return by getting him a job without hassle. Sadly though he'll most likely quit as soon as he pays me back so. Also I found out that I might be getting shamed on the price of strings from my local Guitar Center and boy do I feel stupid.
Edit: So I learned a lesson. Just because a guitar store is selling strings for $60 bucks doesn't mean it's a good price. For now on ill be buying strings online.
please stop pointing out how -blam!-ing stupid I am I get it. Been playing for 6 years and even I realize how stupid that is now.
SAD EDIT: My beginner guitar from when I first started playing 6 years ago has had a crack in the neck but it was never big enough to worry about. But after the prank my nephew pulled the tension being released from the cut strings caused its crack to get bigger. Big enough to be concerned about it. I don't really play it much since its so old so I'm not gonna pin a repair cost or even get it repaired. I'm just going to retire her and not get her a new set of strings. Instead she'll just be on display as memories of when I started. R.I.P. off brand strat. Maybe I'll get you repaired when I have children and let you be played by them. ;-;

Glue his hair to a chair and torture him
-
Take his lil ass and spank it until it looks like a cherry tomato
-
Wood glue and a clamp should fix the crack, check out the guitar builders resource page on Facebook there's tons of people who would a few who might even do it for free

Cut his dick off and say."It's just a prank bro".

8 RepliesChop his balls off "as a prank".

Looks like your nephew has been watching a little too much Sam pepper.
-
Just tell him he has hamstrings he does that again & you'll cut those

Justice, nice job

17 RepliesHe could have severely damaged any/some/all of your instruments. Releasing that much tension all at once could warp the neck of a guitar (when the truss rod is no longer balancing the force of the tuned and tightened strings) or mess up the bridge on an acoustic. In addition to him learning a lesson, I hope that none of them were damaged.

I'm lost how at any point he thought this was a 'Prank'

fxck no u ain't being cruel
if anything u helped the kid cuz he has a job now
If you're into metal music or just down tune often these cobalt Ernie ball strings are pretty good. I use them on my Ibanez Prestige. They're 12 packs for $99.99. Excellent quality. Still not >400.00 http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ernie-Ball/2726-Cobalt-Not-Even-Slinky-Electric-Guitar-Strings-Buy-10-Get-2-FREE-1413211462215.gc

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ernie-Ball/2723-Cobalt-Super-Slinky-Elecric-Guitar-Strings-3-Pack-1401720419735.gc Here's a three pack of cobalt wound Ernie ball strings for electric guitars for $28.99 on the guitar center website. Where in the -blam!- are you getting >$400.00 from?
-
I highly doubt that you play guitar at all.

1 ReplyThat stinks. Any tips for a beginner guitar player?

Proper justice

5 RepliesMusiciansfriend.com sells your strings for a good price. As for the kid you did the right thing. To the people saying "it was just a prank" you need to grow the -blam!- up. Detuning all the strings would be considered a prank. Cutting all the strings on all of his guitars is something an ex girlfriend would do to be a vindictive bitch. Not cool man, not cool.

1 ReplyIt's not about the cost of strings its the principle of things.
-
Regardless if you could get then cheaper or not, the fact is he cut strings that were 60 bucks worth. If someone smashed my ps4 and I paid 800 bucks for it, they don't pay me for the price of a new ps4 which is around 300, they pay me for what I paid because I worked my ass off to get 800 bucks to buy one. I totally agree with what you done, truth is I probably would have sold his organs on the black market to get my money back.
-
5 RepliesIf you're paying 60 bucks for a pack of strings, you deserve to have them cut in half.
-
$60? Damn... I see you now now. But I agree that is what he owes you as that is what you foolishly paid.
-
4 RepliesG string sounds fine to me...
-
Well, I don't see how that constitutes a "prank" so he definitely deserves even worse than paying you back.
-
10 Repliesgrab the lowest e string and hang him with it

fenders are poorly made any ways($2000 pine guitar? really?!). go with something other than a gibson or fender unless they sponsor you.
