Two shot assault rifle is currently my favorite.
I also have an explosive combat shotgun, Overseer's Guardian, and a cryo hunting rifle on my character.

Lol explosive combat shotgun must wreck everything...I've got an irradiated one and an incendiary one and they both get my ass out of tight situations. Explosive must be ridiculous haha

Incendiary would nice to get a hold of. And yeah, explosive is a wee bit over powered on a shotgun. I still need six or seven shots to take down a leveled Super Mutant so I'm using it a lot more than I thought I would. And it is very possible to "accidentally" kill yourself with it.

Really? Interesting...what level are you? I use my explosive assault rifle mostly, the shotgun is my "get out of shit quick" gun lol
