Especially since Buck isn't the greatest gunner in the world.
And now, I am stuck at with a save point where I just got to the Gauss Hog and he insists on getting into the passenger seat, no matter which I drive.
He's REALLY helpful there!
Posted by: SonicJohn Me and a friend were playing Solo Legendary together, and everything was fine up until that level. Buck did his very best to make sure that Dare was okay. ...you know, by hugging the front of the Oliphant. Needless to say, we got pretty stuck at the Gauss 'hog bit too.
What?
-
Lol yupp it's a hard level.
-
Ya, it was frustrating for me too :P
-
I had no problems with Buck doing legendary solo...
Posted by: Recon Number 54
Posted by: EL1TE SUPR3MACY Did you give Buck a weapon before you switched 'hogs? I found that if you him something powerful, like a Rocket Launcher or a Fuel Rod, he'll go for the passenger's seat every time.
As a matter of fact, planning for the last stage, I gave him a Fuel Rod that we picked up along the highway. I was worried that might be it. Now I have to swap him into something less oomphy.
Don't know if you have made it yet but, in my opinion, Buck is better off in the passenger seat with the fuel rod. It is just that little stretch before you make it to the tank and he is a lot more effective with the fuel rod then the gauss cannon. Wishin' you lucks

Yeah, i thought about trying highway alone on legendary, went "AWW HELL NO!" and invited my friend over to be my spawn monkey. Not great for bragging rights, but it'll keep you from tearing out your hair.
-
He's not that bad a gunner... Except against ghosts. Worst. Highway. Section. EVER. I enjoyed the level solo, it was a good challenge.
-
Ha, a similar thing happened to me. I was in the Gauss yet he persisted on that the other hog is indeed better. Dare was already blown to pieces close to the next checkpoint by the time I had convinced him that the Gauss is more conducive to our task. How about this, we didnt know about the rocket launchers and mongooses when we played co-op legendary the first time so we walked. It was rough. [Edited on 10.09.2009 10:13 PM PDT]

I figured the best way to beat this level on legendary solo was to just let his shoot first parts until the ghost show up. From there give him a Rocket launcher and he'll aim way better at the ghosts.
-
Huh, I didn't have a problem with this at all. In fact, Buck nabbed me a killionaire with the gauss cannon. What I did have a problem with: I hit a checkpoint outside the Oni building with a wraith's plasma shell directly over my head. I died a good 20 times in the next couple of minutes while trying to figure out which way to move to correctly dodge the damned thing.

Any updates Recon Number 54? Did you finally manage to tame Buck and get through the level?
-
Ever try giving Buck a rocket launcher? It is so sad...
-
I know right, I was doing this achievment called deja vu. Now, for it to work noone can get in a warthog. So, What do you suppose he does the first time he sees a warthog. He gets in it and we fail. Yeah, Buck blows all right...

Also, yeah, Buck fails at gunning. He has the most powerful weapon in the game, able to kill every enemy in a few shots, while still remaining mobile, but he can't even take out a few ghosts. If you drive absurdly well, eventually you will make it through.
-
Oh gosh, Buck. I'd actually prefer a Marine ally then him.
-
he does horrible against ghosts too. i had to jump out the hog and just let him shoot for awhile or i'd die instantly
-
Me and my friends had issues with Buck on the last mission for Deja Vu, he'd keep stealing the seats on the mongooses and he'd get in the way half of the time while driving through the opening doors (he just teleports to the next section and walks in front of you like nothing >_<).
-
it does, now try it with all skulls on. Our good friend 'Buck' went the step beyond for me trying to do a LASO run. I go through the level like a breeze, I just got my hog, and now all I gotta do is go through the mixxed vehicles for a straight run for my very own tank. Low and behold bucks 'gunning' skills prove to be at most painful. He tried to shoot a ghost, but inturn shot the car infront of me, which in turn was too close and killed me instantly. To start a whole level all over again because 'buck' sucks really made me hate him so much. What I found out is depending on the weapon he is holding can affect his spot. Give him a rocket or a sniper, and he will go for the passenger seat alot more then the gunner. Way to go buck.
-
I just beat this level on Legendary solo, with all skulls on save blind, iron, and black eye. It sucked.
-
Try getting him off the passenger seat and drive off parking the hog with the passenger seat right next to a wall so he can only have the gunner seat within his reach. That's the only idea I can come up with.
-
Posted by: SeanDaMan Yeah Buck has a sight and gunning problem aka "Lets shoot at the grunt instead of the Ghost!"
He definitely doesn't prioritize very well at all.

Even if the entire universe ended in a rather abrupt bang, Buck's hair would remain perfect. ;-)

Same thing happended to me. I had to hold B to get him out and sit in the side seat myself until he got on the gun. Of course, by that time, Dare, being the blonde she is, decided it was fun to drive straight towards a bunch of ghosts.
-
Any level on Solo Legendary is hard. I bet coastal highway is hard because the AI in ODST isnt that good. It is a 100 times better then Halo 3. Do you remember on the 3rd level where you drive out of the base? The AI marines were horrible.
-
I had a hammer form the previous level, whenever my warthog was being shot, id get out....go behind it, and wait for a ghost to get close enough and do work. Gauss hog, keep ur distance, Bock does good enough. Tank....ownage end level
