Wisnewski, just admit it.

It's got to be painful to accept, but it's time for you to acknowledge that the attempts at "balancing" this game have done less to even out gameplay as they have forced a constant rotation of "must use" weapons. There are enough posts and polls up that you have to be aware that the majority of day one players are not happy with not only what you've done to PvP as a whole, but the devastating effects all the PvP changes have had on PvE as well. It's time to make this right and the only way to achieve that at this point is to reset weapons to pre-1.1.1 and start over. The uncalled for AR nerf of 1.1.1 destroyed any hope of any other weapons ever getting to stand out without getting ruined in turn. Without the massive AR nerf, hand cannons are never an issue. Without the hand cannon nerf, pulse rifles still have their 9%. Without pulse rifles getting nerfed, I could have finally used a weapon I loved this IB with MIDA. It would have been the first time in year 2 I had a weapon I truly loved and instead I didn't touch it all week because you made its users pariahs. This game cannot go on like this. Destiny has been a star-crossed game since its release. It's been beset by many issues from Lack of matchmaking, unacceptable zoo errors, horrible economies and gear drops, laaaaaaaaaaag, locked out content, etc, etc. But for all the problems, the gameplay was in--blam!-ing-credible. The classes were all stupid fun and the weapons were ungodly fun. So I have to ask that in a game built on the quality of the gunplay and the unique class play, you find the best way to improve the game to be to systematically destroy them? Seriously, every single fun thing that has existed in this game has been ruined either by not allowing us to carry things forward or through the sandbox team gimping any weapon remotely resembling fun. Maybe I've been harsh with the criticism this week, but I'm sorry, Iron Banner and Scouts were my two favorite things in this game and you've completely destroyed the fun in playing IB and using Scouts and for what? How many people wanted nerfs? Show me the nerf posts that have any likes. Show me the nerf polls that show more than 10-15% pro-nerf. We've spoken en-masse begging you not to keep nerfing. We told you that the only thing the pulse rifle nerf would do is lead to the nerfhearders going after scouts. You couldn't listen. So where does it end? You've made it clear that anything that gets over-used gets nerfed and MIDA over doubled the kills of the next closest weapon this week. So are you going to destroy the most balanced weapon you ever released in the name of over-use? It's time to end this madness. It's time to make this game right and it starts with making the weapons and the gameplay FUN again. I still can't believe I played Iron Banner and didn't have fun doing it. Please stop the nerfs. The Sandbox team will continue to make changes to keep the game fresh. Some changes will be popular, some will not. We welcome you to share your thoughts here on which ones you like and don't like. Unless you didn't have it and were using a different Auto Rifle. A lot of players considered it a "must use." I had a lot of fun with my Suros, but personally think playing a meta where it was mostly being used for the last 11 months would get pretty stale. Destiny will continue to evolve. I don't believe the team would ever just roll back to old patches, but they will continue to try to change things up for the better.

      • 1.1.1 fusion rifles sucked. 2.0 was the closest to Balance they had, I loved pre 1.1.1 (the patch where it started all going down hill) but so many people complaining about it be OP pre 1.1.1

          • They keep trying to make so many damn weapons. Instead of trying to make 50 auto rifles of various fire rates, impact, range, stability, and reload, they should make one base model. Then make the perk nodes change each of the stats, increase one at the cost of another ex. RoF for Impact. Finally put re-forging back into the game. Then you will have true diversity of the weapons you see. Sure you might still have more auto rifles than pulse rifles, or scout rifles than hand cannons but at least you wouldn't run into 9:10 matches with everyone using Nirwens Mercy. Disclaimer.... All weapon types or weapons used as examples.

          • It seems like the devs nerf and buff guns to change up the meta in the hopes of extending the life of the game beyond adding new content. It's a very cheap way of extending Destinys lifespan whilst keeping costs down. My opinion anyway, good post though Sols....

            • in anything competitive, there is always a "must use". its not so much a Bungie is making it so, but rather, the crowd will always champion something specific. mostly though, its the something that is clearly the best option. it was some specific guns before (SUROS, TLW, Thorn), but its been getting better now (just PRs in general, and now sort-of SRs). its an ebb and flow that is very difficult to predict and control, so that means there will always be balance changes and that nothing will ever be "perfect". flat-out going back is'nt the answer though, and a single person (like yourself) definitely doesnt have the answer. maybe though, its not the weapons that should be changed, but rather guardian HP.

                • I agree with all those suggestions except for the hand cannon. I think the damage fall off should be closer to that of an AR, not a scout. I have always viewed the hand cannon as more of a small shotgun. Hard hitting, but slow reload and close to medium range effectivity.

                  • Just understand the true reason for balance changes. They are not used to make things equal or balanced. They are used to keep the game from becoming boring. The meta shifts to keep us playing. This game just isn't subtle about it at all. That's why they over nerf things until they are unusable.

                  • The real problem is the amount of weapons and weapon rolls that destiny has. They have to make weapons appeal to players to justify weapon variety. If all weapons are useless, and only a hand full are useful, then you create a small meta. If there is a bigger variety of weapons that appeal, then you will have a bigger meta with more distinct models of each weapon type. My point is if destiny had less weapons then the game would be easier to balance, and these guns wouldn't be clones of each other with different perks and stats. I rather have 10 guns over 50, if those 10 guns feel unique and vastly different from gun to gun. Quality over quantity is always a must have in anything consumer based. You all will only understand how shit this system destiny has is, when you can pay to chose the rolls you want on a weapon.

                        Ok, I don't get this. Why do people complain about lag in destiny? In my experience, destiny is probably the least-laggy online game of all time. In CoD there is rubber banding and teleporting, but in destiny I always take damage on time (no lag invincibility which you see in extremely rare cases of intense lag, which I've only ever seen on video), and deal damage dr the most with a 2-3 second delay. Is everyone in this community just blaming their failure on lag (although I do see you have legit examples, so I'm not referring to you), or am I just insanely lucky in never running into laggy players? Also, if you don't think this game is balanced I don't know what to tell you. Mida is overused, but by no means overpowered, and TLW is only good at close to mid range. Sure HoS, fusion rifles, and Shadow shot could use buffs, maybe a range (damage drop off particularly) and stability buff for autos, and a landfall damage nerf, but for the most part the crucible is perfect. Primaries especially are in a near perfect state. Lower your expectations of an RPG shooter built around a large sandbox of weapons. I guess I'm just lucky and/or have more realistic expectations of this game. Just enjoy it and laugh at the occasional lag, it's just a game anyways so don't worry about lag making you lose as long as you're having fun. There are tons of viable load outs, try them out until you find one you like. Try Hawksaw, Suros, Doctrine/Arminius, Finala's Peril/Eyasluna, Water Star, or any medium impact medium RoF scout if you're stuck. For specials you can use any sidearm, shotgun or sniper, or a Thesan and similar fusions with a stability and accuracy roll, and any heavy except a smolder.

                        • Thought I'd also add: Every time they change something, it's a longer version of that disconnection you have swapping from Titan to Hunter, toon swaps in genetal... For me at least. When you've invested the time we have, it's about unconscious ability, it's about being unconsciously competent. Destiny just makes everyone feel consciously incompetent. Screws up the learning cycle.
