Nerf Snipers?

There's been many posts about nerfing snipers from impact, aim assist, and the ability to res snipe. This brings up a lot of points that are good to talk about in terms of the state of the crucible. Starting at impact there shouldn't be a nerf to impact in the slightest as each archetype works in its specific and intended means well. High RoF, low impact is used to deal with enemies quickly, or at least damage them and keep them at bay. Medium RoF, medium impact is good for finishing kills quicker and a nice mid ground for mobility and impact to deal higher DPS at a faster rate. Low RoF, high impact is used to shutdown supers, res snipe, combat over shields, and to clean up weakened kills. This sacrifices mobility and speed in terms of readying the weapon, ADS, and movement speed. These tend to have higher AA (we will discuss that later). Lower RoF, higher impact isn't really for PvP but for those few who use it can use it for the exact same thing as the previous archetype except it can kill someone with armor of light/force barrier with a single headshot. It can consistently kill any super, even with an over shield. The mobility is severely lacking in terms of ads, drag scoping, and movement speed. The impact isn't the issue as each is balanced in their respective archetypes, the issue comes with res sniping and AA. Res sniping invalidates the bottom two tiers of snipers, since they cannot snipe off the res. So with this we can diversify the sniping field by fixing revives as they are severely broken and do not punish death adequately. [b][u]Fix #1[/u][/b]: remove the over shield or lower the over shield to 50 extra health rather than 100. This makes the bottom two tiers relevant again and punishes death much more. Personally I believe we remove the over shield as I find it frustrating that someone with fast res can run past someone, res them, and then that person can pop a super (in conjunction remove the over shield that someone gets for reviving as this is another broken mechanic that allows people to abuse revives). However, to aid the revived change the animation from spawning in and gaining mobility once the feet touch the ground, to spawning in with full mobility to make res sniping a lot more difficult. If not full mobility at least the ability to move vertically off the spawn (blinking up, jumping up, gliding up, etc.). Aim assist is the other issue, [b][i]before I begin let me emphasize I am a sniper, I have 8.5k kills with an 80% headshot ratio[/i][/b]. Aim assist isn't a massive issue from what I've observed but it will always be looked at as a problem (even though aim assist doesn't help mobile snipers like it does hard scoping snipers). [b][u]Fix #2[/u][/b]: Drop all aim assist to a baseline of 50 (40 for the top two tiers of snipers) at most, half the scopes target acquisition capabilities, and remove hidden hand as a perk. Dropping the aim assist of snipers will increase the skill gap as the best snipers will just simply need to spend a week or two relearning muscle memory, while the snipers who attempted to hop onto the bandwagon find sniping much more difficult. Dropping the 1KYS archetype to 40 at base makes super sniping much more skill based as well. More importantly it will make the game faster as more people will drop sniping due to the skill gap. Dropping the scopes AA makes more scopes than the shortgaze competitive (I realize it gives less zoom but it comes with higher AA which makes no sense in terms of a trade off). Shot package and range finder should never be perks on a shotgun, just like final round, LITC, and hidden hand should never be perks on a sniper rifle as it boosts the ability to insta kill into an unfair advantage. [b][u]Ninja fix #3[/u][/b]: increase special ammo timers in all playlists from 2 minutes to 3 minutes, this will fix the special weapons usage, and make the extra special ammo on armor actually useful. Overall I find this a healthy way to balance out snipers and gameplay mechanics to make the PvP much more competitive and balanced. [b][u]TL;DR[/u][/b]: each main point is bolded, fix one has to do with reviving, fix two has to do with aim assist, and fix three is about special ammo.

    Nah. Crucible is balanced now (except fusion rifles, HoS, arc blade range/hit registration, and shadowshot, which need buffs), Bungie shouldn't bother messing with snipers.

    • If I would have to list ways to bring sniper rifles down a notch it would the following 1. Slowing down movement speed with it drawn out. 2. Adding a sway so that hardscoping doorways can be more difficult. Also making the sway of a sniper scope a stat. 3. Slightly reducing aim assist across all snipers. 4. Inverting the aim assistance that different scopes give you. (Shortgaze should give you an aim assist penalty and a bit more sway, especially with the size of most of the maps, the higher zoom scopes should have the aim assist boost.) 5. A slight(I mean very slight) delay of the centering of your scope during follow up shots. If Bungie implemented one or all of the tweaks I'd be okay.

      • The issue with snipe is the aim assist ... It's to easy to get a HS. In some other games there is no aim assist on snipe (like bo3). I think they should reduce it.

        • Well bungie normally rebalances when the gun type is much more then any other type. Snipers got 30% last week in trials and no other gun got even close

          • You forgot to mention how easy it is to still land precision shots while under fire. I feel like this is the bigger issue over aim assist. I've lost count of the times that I've been drilling a sniper in the face with my primary, often times with high caliber rounds, and the guy is still able to land a precision shot on me. It is so bad that attempting to use a primary at medium to long range against a sniper puts you at a complete disadvantage. Easy solution for this is to take a page out of Halo's book and implement a mechanic that un-scopes a sniper when he receives a precision shot. I'd even be okay with tha concept only applying to headshots, the scope could remain active with body shots. I think this is a 100% fair solution coming from someone who snipes quite a bit. Right now the ease of revive sniping and overall aim assist is turning trials into yet another meta which kind of sucks because I feel that primaries in general are in a good spot now, unless your trying to kill a sniper lol.

            • Whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Nerf Herders on Bungie.net. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. LightArc. From what I can gather, he commands the Scrub Dancers from an Imperial PC just inside of his mother's basement. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, kick this loser in the nuts and break their grip on Nerfing Destiny more.

              • I think that the aim assist on 1kys is fine, it's actually low for TTK legendary and exotic snipers. The only real reason we use it is because it's so easily obtained. It's also got really well rounded stats for a sniper. And is very easy to use The other Rez capable snipers are Erriene (low aim assist, hard to drag) Stillpeircer (hunter only Black spindle (exotic slot) So it's easy to see that 1kys is a better sniper, because it's not locked into one perk set like stillpeircer, it's closest competition. It's aim assistance of 56 is average overall, and actually low for TTK. [spoiler]crucible sandbox designers said in one of the last crucible radio podcasts that 1kys actually has a KD of about 1, meaning it's not murdering hundreds. People who use it are actually doing no worse or better.[/spoiler]

                  I'd think aim assist helps mobile snipers far more than hard scoping snipers? What with dragscopes and quickscopes. I use shortgaze because of the faster ads time and the bonus of a short zoom. The AA isn't something I consider myself.

                  • No fps should have a sniper that takes off 85% of your health. Destiny snipers have no sway, high aim assist, 0.83 ttk for a double body shot with 1k stare type snipers, you start with ammo etc.

                    • I know ill never get what i want for snipers. But here goes. 1-All snipers need to be able to rez-snipe 2-I dont even want body shot damage to count. Like make all snipers one shot headshot kills but hits any other part of the body are 100 percent negated. 3-start each match with 0 special ammo 4- leave all aim assist on all snipers the same, lets say 40(scopes dont change AA) 5- getting shot takes you out of your ADS(snipers only, nlb included) 6- when in the process of ads-ing your gun will literally not fire regardless of when you pull the trigger during the first .5 seconds of ads-ing 7- once fully activating your ads you have exactly 10 full seconds to hardscope before holding in your ads will cause your gun to not fire(you must de-scope, and wait 3 seconds before scoping back in. Or you can reload or even switch weapons to get back into your scope effectivly. These are all crazy radical ideas on how to adjust snipers. The only ones i really wish would happon is probably the most unreasonable one in the eyes of the destiny comunity, and thats number 1-2. The rest i dont care about

                      • the AA is defiantly an issue idk why people think its not. if someone flips around a corner and quick scopes me when im half way across the map, that not the skill of him, that super AA. (its happend to me multiple times when im sniping, i only use the NLB for sniping now) also head glitching is -blam!-ing mean, i once only saw a guys elbow but apparently he could see my head, or he could shoot through walls ....

                          PvP tip if someone is camping and you get killed. Do not keep running out into their line of sight. Instead ignore him and find another opponent. Or go find a way to flank him and catch him/her off guard giving you the upper hand. Im saying this bc its irritating to see people say get better etc... Just giving some advice. Might seem like common sense but I even do it myself and I have to stop myself sometimes.

                          • I just think special ammo in general is the issue and by cutting it down to like 2 drops at each crate per game... they could fix all of these special weapon problems. Shotguns got overused because of the availability of special ammo. Snipers are the same. Honestly I think the main problem with snipers as a whole is the ability to snipe someone 3 feet from you. This has caused every area in the map to become a sniping zone which has just gotten... Boring. But, it is what it is. Overall, it doesn't matter if snipers are OP, skill based, or "working as intented"... They are being absurdly overused and that is what will cause a nerf.

                            • Snipers have never been even touched and now people are calling for nerfs? I hope you know that AA on snipers doesn't mean bullet magnetism, it means that it will stay on the head for about half a second for you to take a shot. Snipers are fine and I would argue put you at a disadvantage when equipped due to the CQC nature of destiny

                                        • Stop canvassing for nerfs. Stay out of sniper lanes and you'll be fine. If you get tagged, re-spawn and flank / kill the sniper. Situational awareness saves lives! BTW, I'm no sniper...but I do give props to those that make ridiculous shots.

                                          • 1. Aim assist on a sniper does very little. People regard aim assist as some sort of God-like stat on a weapon when it isnt. Aim assist doesnt lock on to the head or body: as the reticule passes over the hitbox of an area, the higher aim assist actually slows down the movement of the reticule, allowing a person to have more time to react to pressing the fire button. So yes, higher aim assist can help lower skilled players land more shots but at the same time, aim assist can cause players to barely miss shots because of the slow down. Its a give and take. The real problem: Scopes. The sniper is a marksmen weapon utilized in long distance engagements to quickly take out an enemy. Our scopes zoom in too little. I personally would get rid of ambush, shortgaze and possibly tac-s. Would have to test things out. 2nd real issue: Getting hit with a sniper while you are placing shots on the person. Honestly, i can not count how many times ive been sniping and shot at and the recoil from getting hit has allowed me to hit a headshot instead of a body shot. I feel like if you were to change something about how snipers get affected by shots, we would have to see how having no short zoom scopes would work first. Having no short zoom scopes would open up the middle game of sidearms and fusion rifles more.
