My Grandfather smoked his whole life. I was about 10 years old when my mother said to him, 'If you ever want to see your grandchildren graduate, you have to stop immediately.'. Tears welled up in his eyes when he realized what exactly was at stake. He gave it up immediately. Three years later he died of lung cancer. It was really sad and destroyed me. My mother said to me- 'Don't ever smoke. Please don't put your family through what your Grandfather put us through." I agreed. At 28, I have never touched a cigarette. I must say, I feel a very slight sense of regret for never having done it, because your post gave me cancer anyway.

Cute droid with secret information, check. Chewy, check. Falcon, check. Bar scene, check. Young protagonist seeks wise old Jedi, check. Hans Solo and team must destroy something before main strike team can attack, check. Leia waits nervously while super weapon is destroyed, check. Someone important dies, check. Sith Lord is butt ugly. Differences: No one says, "It's a trap." Young protagonist does not sleep in a Tauntaun. Motion camera and green screen vs. CG. No one gets cocky. Young protagonist very skilled with no training. She did not have a floating ball thingy. Young protagonist much less whiney.

Traitor Trooper. But seriously, JJ was doing a very good job of mixing in the old with the new, to give us a fresh start in Episode 8.

There would have been a Star Destroyer chasing a Rebel blockade Runner in the opening scene, where a princess downloads a stolen plans to a secret battle station into R2-D2. Then R2-D2 and C-3P0 escape to Tatooine. I could go on for hours, but you will find that NOTHING that happened in A New Hope happened in The Force Awakens. There are some of the same characters, but they're much, much older now. There are some of the same vehicles, but cooler. There are some similarities, but that's as far as they are THE EXACT SAME THING. Meaning - They are not. For what it's worth, this movie IS EXACTLY WHAT STAR WARS NEED TO RE-BOOT THE SERIES. What you little cherubs don't realize is just how cool Star Wars was in 1977. That movie is what launched an Empire (pun intended). It is why so many people love Start Wars to begin with. Those of you who grew up with the prequels as 'new' have no idea how junk they are in contrast. SO much CG, horrible dialogue, garbage character portrayals that overshadow what was good about them. This one resets the movie back to the original things that made us all love it. The way it was filmed. The characters. The ships. It's going back to what worked when it launched. You're welcome. Whether you believe this or care, well that's on you. Believe what you want.
