The difference between shotguns and snipers. For all the slow-minded people out there.

They are polar opposites. Their respective 'skills' are completely different. A shotguns 'skill' does not come from the shot. It comes from the ability to get close enough to make the shot and leave the fight alive. A sniper is completely opposite. A snipers 'skill' does come from the shot. Difference is they can make that shot from across the map without being in any immediate danger. Now that we have that cleared please stop acting like sniping takes more skill than shotgunning. Especially in a game where there is a full time in-game radar on the upper left hand of your screen that will glow red well past shotgun range. That alone makes shotgunning harder than sniping. There is no sneaking up and getting a kill. A shotgunner can be avoided, predicted, and even baited way easier than a sniper. So on to my point. It was an issue when shotguns were used as 'primaries'. Which right now snipers are taking that roll. So if shotguns deserved a nerf for that then so do snipers. In a game with no sway it is extremely easy to level your scope of in a corner and wait. Add to that the aim assist and sniping is actually pretty simple. Not much skill to camping back taking pot shots. Seeing as how it is getting harder and harder to counter a sniper without one that tells me there is something wrong. So I'll keep it simple. If shotguns were 'crutches' due to being used as 'primaries' and being hard to counter then snipers are also 'crutches'. So if shotguns deserved a nerf so do snipers. How to nerf? Make them either de-scope when they get precision hit, or greatly increase stagger. There iis no way a sniper should ever be able to snipe through a hail of bullets. That is not a snipers intended purpose. So I guess my proposal is simple. Either nerf secondaries to push primary gunplay. or buff the secondaries back up to par to prevent snipers from being the only reliable option. Edit: The reason for this post is to maybe convince Bungie to add variety to the game. TLW and 1000 yard is boring. It's the slowest meta this game has ever had. Now the problem with sniping is that it is low-risk high reward. Many people say this but don't fully explain. While above I have touched upon it a little I will try and explain further. Destiny is an FPS (no surprise here). FPS games have a tendency to give the advantage to the player that gets his sights on the enemy first. Especially snipers. Meaning snipers have an advantage right off the bat. A sniper can 'post up' in any high traffic area (maps don't really have many and multiple can be covered at once) and aim down. Since there is no sway they can level their scope and wait for as long as they want safely away from any other weapon except a sniper. The only way to know ahead of time that a sniper is there is to dance, wave, point, sit, or use any other emote around every single corner just to go third person and check. That alone gives snipers an edge that no other weapon has. Given the short range scopes that most snipers have, their aim assist, hidden hand, low stagger, and nerfed primaries this pretty much makes a sniper friendly environment. Now don't get me wrong there are good snipers. But sniping as a whole is too easy. Just like there were good shotgunners, players that could maneuver well and juke their opponents, but shotgunning was 'too easy'. So as I stated above there are two reasonable options. Although I would prefer buffs for the weaker secondaries and primaries, we know that most likely won't happen.

 •
A shotgunner can be avoided, predicted, and even baited way easier than a sniper.
I'll gladly pull you into a competitive match of snipers in Planetside 2. Snipers... even the really good ones... will fall for a single piece of bait. The trick? Learn your opponent. I've countered all snipers in every Iron Banner match. There has been no Destiny player I have not killed. Yes, I have lost many, many, many, many matches... But there has been no player which doesn't fall for a single bait trap because no map is designed to give players any advantage they did not already have from previous experience or gained from simply playing Destiny and getting used to it. Players make themselves predictable. That is the issue in of itself. Go look at trials. How many matches do not leave a player overexposed when they should not be? How many matches has there been where one player being out of sync with the team caused the team to lose? How many times or matches or instances has a Lighthouse team won simply by not going to predictable kill zones? I can get a kill against any player not because of a hidden secret or hidden talent. It's called playing strategically.
