Why are kids so.....

.....ungrateful and feel as if they are owed somehow? You know what you're owed? A glass of shut the hell up & work for it! Welcome to life. You don't get what you wanted unless you chase it. It won't be given to you

    • Thank you very much for saying this. My generation is rank with entitlement. Im grateful to my parents for teaching me to work for it, and raising me to actually have manners and a spine. (Im 17 btw so I have a good understanding of how my peers act. Its not good)

    • The sense of entitlement has been around since forever. Threads like this try to be like wise old men passing on tokens of wisdom to a younger generation, simple truth is that you are no different. I've seen entitled kids everywhere since the 80s, ppl try & say *back in my day the kids used to respect their elders etc* but this is so much bullshit, society is no more pathetic than it was 30 yrs ago. It just seems like its worse because theres more of us. Words of wisdom dont exist anymore & ultimately will just result in you/me wasting our time. Your thread has served no useful purpose whatsoever. Enjoy your life because you cant do -blam!- all to change anyone elses, accept it & move on.

          • I was slapped once or twice on the wrists, maybe the face, and I got yelled at plenty. I learned my lessons, though I was much quieter and better-behaved than most kids. Either way, it shouldn't take a beating to teach a lesson. Discipline is important, but if taken too far it can seriously damage a kid.

            • What generation are you from? The generation that raised the, "kids" are responsible for how the, "kids" act. Entitlement is funny considering the older population does nothing but vote for politicians that help them out and do nothing to better society. If anything the 50+ generation is the entitled one.

Im 14. I immigrated to Canada when I was 4. Death claimed many people close to me so I have experienced what it feels like to lose someone forever. I was bullied for not knowing english. Im not extremely rich or extremely poor. Just a bit below average. But I am grateful. For every act of kindness that I show or that people show to me. Im grateful that my parents raised me to know that money isn't everything and that the world is a cruel place. Im grateful that my parents sacrificed their previous lives just to give me a home and a better future here in Canada. Im grateful as long as I have clothes on my back, food on my plate, friends at my side, and my parents to guide me (Even though they will eventually pass on with the rest of my loved ones). I know when to thank someone. I know when to stand my ground. I know when to fight and when to stay neutral. All because of the examples of my friends and family. Im grateful to them. That is why I found it a bit offensive that you labeled in your post that any child, pre-teen, and teen as if they are all pampered by their parents because I know I sure as hell wasn't. But I do agree with you in a way. My generation is becoming very spoiled and un-grateful. But there are still people that are the opposite of that.

I live my life trying at every opportunity to be grateful. I know it happens all too often people see something bad happen on the news and think, "That'll never happen to me." I realize that all odds point toward something bad happening to me at some point. A few years back I was talking with a kid from my church, and he seemed a bit forlorn. I learned his brother had cancer, and sadly, he passed away the next year. I lived from then on paying more attention to the good things in my life, realizing all of the amazing things in this world. Too recently my cousin was diagnosed with cancer. I'm not being pissy and angry because he's in pain and suffering, I'm instead looking at the bright side. His radiation is over, and things are looking better. We may even go see him soon if he's feeling up too it. Things can be taken from you as soon as their given. Things you take for granted lost in an instant. Someone I knew very well from school had their whole house burned down. So, we as a community teacher out to her family to support her in this terrible time. Admits this harsh world, there is always a silver lining. But you can only see it if you live life with an attitude of gratitude. So take this moment, and smile for all the things you have, instead of scowl for all the things you don't. Happy holidays!

                  • I am as respectful as I can be. My parents taught me good stuff and I owe them a lot. Except the whole giving me life thing and stuff obviously.

                  • I work at a grocery store, its not just kids. You wouldn't believe how many older adults act entitled towards us. Cutting lines, complaining about shit we have no control over, and assuming we should know all the answers to their questions. It's a problem all of society has.

                      • I'm still "technically" a kid, yet I do tons of hours of community service. Every time I feel more and more grateful for the things I possess. Both material and social, like family and friends. Many of the people I help have neither.
