To Those Wondering Why Bungie Nerfs Fusions All The Time

So two bungie devs were interviewed a few days ago about some of the weapon balancing done as of 2.1.0. When they were asked to explain the reasoning behind the current (and probably past) fusion rifle changes, this is what they answered https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaRsjqDdeew (SKIP TO 45:37) I just think it's completely ridiculous they would destroy all fusions just because they claim to have one "fusion wizard" whom by the way, I've never even seen, played, or heard of after over one year and a half of playing this game. It seems Bungie and logic just don't get along.

Have listened to this, and all J Wise and Sage interviews, a number of times. I respectfully suggest you are taking his comments a little too literally. They were not suggesting fusions have been reset based on one internal player. To the contrary, they we saying (in line with patch notes) that; 1. Fusion rifles have have undergone a journey for a continuous beam "bacon-ator" way way back in development before alpha to the weapon we received at launch; 2. The design principle behind fusion rifles is to reward people who can lead targets, manage recharge, projectile speed, range and recoil with reliable 2HK using a combo of head crits and body hits; 3. Once mastered this class melts face. The issue is a only a small part of the Community have mastered this weapon. My sense is its a weapon that requires a lot of experimentation and practice. If you check out http://www.guardian.gg (shows in game data from Bungie data files) usage on PS and XB across all game types is approx. 1.5-2.5% of daily player base (800-900k folks). Note, its was Interesting to see that usage blushed up to roughly 3.2% on 5th Dec just for the day - not sure why. I have followed Bungie on balance for a long while, including their tech. lectures on the science and physiology of balance at GDC and the like. They clearly has sound grasp on this, often misunderstood and technically challenging, field. Put simply Wise and the balance team know their craft and so there may well be some hidden gems in the fusion rifle class. Wise and Sage appeared to the dropping a few hints to this effect. I am going to spend the next few days experimenting and seeing if I can create a secret sauce load out and put this potential face melting beastie to the test. The whole gun load out experimentation thing is a huge amount of fun for me in Destiny as it provides the depth of weapon, character class and armour features that enable an enormous amount of exploration and choice - FUN INDEED :) If I discover anything I will post in this and related threads. Merry Xmas gallp EDIT : to acknowledge Wisnewski's boss Sage

    • It was a joke. This is why bungie is so dam coy and restricts information as if it were national security.

    • Plan C is about half as good as it was. I used it exclusively in Y1 for Trials. Now it's only good for 1hks in 10 ft or less. Thesan FR4 can 1hk at 40 yards.

    • I still have a blast with my Plan C and Susanoo, but they definitely got an accuracy nerf after the last patch and it's very noticeable. Not sure why this is even an argument anywhere. Bungie said ADS accuracy was going up, instead it went down. This has been documented with many YouTube posts already yet devs and our community managers haven't given us any type of update. It's bull.

      • It's kinda ridiculous to base a nerf to an entire weapon class off of one guys skill with them. I'd wager the guy in question could probably wipe the floor with them with any weapon he chose. Some people are just that good.

        • The gun takes skill and forethought to use. Now it also takes predictive knowledge of random distributions to cumulate enough bullets on the target to get a kill.

        • With practice a Fusion can be an absolutely monstrous at the right range. The whole aspect of predicting player movements is the key. Honestly I think they wanted to nerf Fusions a bit more before they became op. I'd rather they let that happen after we figured Fusions out. Then also bring in some new Perks for them.

Did they forget about the vex mythoclast not being a normal fusion rifle? Because it kicks like a horse now. If they did buff the mythoclast accuracy, it would be overpowered.

            • So they confirmed exactly why I thought they would nerf them constantly because I always thought "They must be getting constantly killed by someone with a fusion even after each nerf so they keep doing it". Maybe I was the wizard?

              • The game creators sound ignorant. "Fusions haven't been discovered yet."

              • Figures. So the rest of us have to suffer with lousy stability, inaccuracy, and just plain uselessness because 1 assihat on their team, running on one of their expensive custom OP design test rigs can still kill them?

              • Does the fusion rifle nerf apply to the Vex mythoclast? Because I have faith that Bungie will smarten up and add it to year 2. In general though, fusion rifles are probably the worst gun in the game besides handcannons. Plenty of other better weapon classes out there.

              • I like to think of myself as a fusion wizard. 50% or more of my kills in a match are with my trusty fusion.

While I did notice the fusion rifles have changed I haven't used them enough to say they are ruined. I will thank you for pointing me towards this podcast, always nice to hear the devs talk about things. Though the hosts always ask the most boring and uninteresting questions. --------Glad Weisnewski brought up how fusion rifles work, when the hosts didn't ask, because it was pretty insightful. Shame they can't convey this information through the game somehow it might alleviate some troubles players are having. Also made me happy to hear Sage at least acknowledge the chaotic nature of the multiplayer and the desire to tone that down. I've been wanting that from launch.

                • Bungie ruined two of the best weapons in the game being light of the abyss and The vortex with the fusion rifle nerf bungie needs to revisit fast charging fusion rifles and buff their stability and their damage while limiting the increases to their range.

                • I go flawless with fusion rifles They got buffed Lear to time the charge rate and they made the gun recoil more vertical than hortizontal (they said so) and it's easy af to pull down and into the direction they're moving at auto rifle fall off range. Y'all need to git gud at fusions

Yeah, I always roll my eyes to people that say "I know a guy that can melt with x-weapon". Like don't tell me the story, show me the proof. Actions speak louder than words.

                    • The only thing I can say about this since I use Fusion rifles a lot is that unless it has high stability it is very difficult to get a kill with one, it got even harder with the patch
