Undertale

Now, while everyone else seems enamored by the fantastic Fallout 4 and the somewhat dissapointing Star Wars Battlefront, I recently played a fantastic game that will forever hold a place in my heart. Undertale, simply put, is the best game I have played since Dark Souls. For those of you who know my Dark Souls fanaticism, you will see that Undertale has some merit. Undertake is a whimsical indie game created by Toby Fox, inspired heavily by Earthbound, and created for the PC. The game at the moment does not cost much, and is very much worth the buy, and here is why. Undertale, while being somewhat short game compared to most games these days, with an average play through taking roughly five hours, this game is packed with excellent content and depth. Every meticulously crafted bit of the game had wit and charm packed into it, with a colorful cast of characters that the game made me feel connected to. These well-defined and developed characters have a certain depth and personality that really drive the story of Undertale, which I honestly refuse to spoil for anyone. Furthermore, your actions have a definitive effect on the game world around you, and you will see the aftereffects of your actions reflected in how the story plays out, or how some characters react to things. The actions that affect the world most come in how you deal with enemies; whether you kill them or not. What's more, the game soundtrack is superb, and I caught myself humming the tunes far after the game was over. In fact, one of the tunes is stuck in my head right now. It really drives the game home, and sucks you into its world. I would recommend tracks from the game, but that would spoil things for you all as well unfortunately. I created this thread for the sole purpose of spreading the word about this downright beautiful game. This game, honestly, has effected me, and no game has done that since Dark Souls. Give this game a shot, and you might be surprised!
I haven't even played this game, but I feel emotionally scarred by it. I've watched videos of playthroughs and read the plot synopsis and I feel like even the "happy" ending is really really sad, simply because of what happens to asriel. I understand that the point of the whole game is basically to free asriel and the rest of the underground from chara's dark influence, and in the end asriel is back to his normal, compassionate self, but right afterwards he's doomed to live as a flower again, alone, for the rest of his life. Logically, if you are the caring protagonist, you would do something to try and ask asriel to come with you, even if he has to live as a flower the rest of his life. He may even be immortal as a flower, in which case that's even worse! It's gotten to the point where I wished I had never heard of the game, since I don't like feeling sad. It just doesn't make sense for the protagonist to go on his merry way and forget all about asriel, which the ending seems to allude to.
