The Rookie: Is He A Psychic?

When The Rookie finds an object that was connected to his squad, we somehow see the actions the squad went through. Sure, it is a game mechanic and it allows us to play missions. But could it be deeper? Bungie once stated The Rookie reacts with objects the way you see shows like CSI use objects to further out a crime by showing what happens. But could he really be a psychic? I would like to share something called Psychometry, or as it is known nowadays token-object reading. It is a form of ESP where a psychic touches or holds an object and receives information about the object or its owner. We see the objects The Rookie finds as portals to the experiences of his squad. How is he able to piece together this mystery by himself? With token-object reading, this could provide a way to explain his ability to see the events of his squad. Hey, maybe it is just a gameplay mechanic and he doesn't see the vents. But if he does, I think that would be an explanation. And if he is a psychic, then more questions remain. Could this ability have helped him become the last survivor of New Jerusalem, Cygnus after the rest of his old squad was decimated? Does ONI know about this? Only Bungie knows. Thank you for reading.

 •
Posted by: FarBeef stop trying to explain everythin its a freaking game
Wow, you do realize this a forum dedicated to explaining everything in Bungie's video games, right? I think this is an interesting idea. A lot of you say game mechanic. That's boring, why not another explanation? If it's just a game mechanic, then that means when the Rookie finds Romeo's Sniper Rifle, after trying to fix it, he just decides to look up into the sky for 30 minutes and enjoy the thundery clouds and smoke. Same applies for all the other clues. Also, most of you are acting like the Rookie being a psychic would be a bad thing. I don't see why. It makes sence, and it makes him unique, but not in a super soldier way like Master Chief. I like it.

 • We didn't hear him speak the whole game. So either he has some sort of post traumatic disorder where he lost his ability to speak, is on some secret mission and doesn't feel the need to speak to anyone, or just flat out doesn't wanna talk.

 • Why did he never try to answer on his COM when Dare was asking for help?

 • Robbin is right. at the beginning and end of evry mission we see cutscenes from CCTV angles, then cut into character. the one slight weakness in this is Uplift Reserve. but the rest all happen on CCTV. It's a way of story telling. Don't read too much into it.

 • Wow. Before this goes on any longer-The Rookie is not a psychic. The reasons we see the the other ODST's point of view is because it is the SI showing us their whereabouts. Ever wonder why before you start a mission it says the name of the character and then the amount of time before the drop? That's because it's the SI showing you what has happened. I'm guessing this comes with the map you download from the SI near the beginning of the game. He does run the city after all, so when you play a mission it is like the SI is showing you what he has captured on camera in the city. Even the loading screens signify this. Now you might say this isn't true since we play in the actual first person point of view of the ODSTs. My rebuttal would be, that if you want to play a shooting game from a weird camera angle go try and play the old Resident Evils. That's the kind of camera angles we would play as if we didn't play as the ODST's in the first person point of view, and played from the angles the SI captured the ODST's on camera. So no psychic powers. Sorry. /thread

 • Umm....no. It's just a gameplay mechanic. Not everything has an extremely deep and literal meaning.

 • Kurt-051 is a Spartan II, just like Master Chief, aka John. Kurt has this kind of sixth sense thing, where he gets a bad feeling, and then something bad happens. Like instinct times a million. John (Chief) is the luckiest Spartan. He could survive immense damage, and not die. He could fight for months with only a few hours of sleep, and still pull through. He could fall two kilometers, on fire, and wake up a few hours later.

 • Meh. It seems like it is possible IF he is a Spartan 1/1.1. Kind of reminds me of Kurt's sixth sense, and John's luck.

 •
Posted by: Spartan 90210 Uh no ? It's a gameplay mechanic. Do i really need to explain more ? It would be a very boring game if we didn't see the squads perspective. Finally, who said the rookie was seeing those flasbacks ? You as the player are seeing what happened, while the rookie finds his little CSI clues to get to the next position.
this
