Now that challenge mode is done & LFG teams are consistently beating the heroic raid, what do YOU think is the best strategy for killing Oryx now?
My personal opinion is the 'Challenge' mode 16 orb detonation strategy. Due to their only being one detonation phase there is low risk to most of the group as there is only one occasion where 4 players need to run out and detonate the orbs and make it back to the aura in time. The only tricky part is killing the ogres fast enough so they all die in the same place. However, higher light levelled teams will not have an issue with this. Especially if they have 1-2 titans running blessing bubbles with TOM's.

This is my game play and as you can see I am FAR from an elite MLG 360 noscope player. Both of these videos were made with Oryx kills on the first attempt with an LFG team.
The downside of this stratagy would be that it requires higher light leveled players as weaker players would not be able to kill the ogres fast enough to drop the orbs close together. Also, if you do not have good snipers in your team you may struggle with the shade phases.
The 'No Knight strategy' is by far the worst in my opinion. As killing the knights literally only takes 2 sniper shots and having 4 ogres have free roam of the environment can be chaotic, and presents a huge risk to your spark runner. I never saw the difficulty in killing the light eater knight. As most players above 310 will 2 shot their knight, which always spawns in the same place. The ogres that spawn at the front of the map will also actively target the spark runner as he attempts to get the brand from the vessel. So the risk to your runner is heavily increased. I can understand it if you have people who don't have snipers so are unable to kill their knights, but if you don't have a good sniper I don't know how you would make it to Oryx in the first place.
So what strategy will you be using to kill Oryx from now on?

Depends, if you can dodge bombs at mortar phase, then I would say just do 4 phases, but if you can't I would say 8 bombs as opposed to 16. I feel that detonating bombs just helps clear adds, making shade easier fight. I'm fine with any strategy though, as long as it gets done quick.

8 orb is pretty good as well.

Probably 16-orb strat with the specific challenge being that the transition from Oryx Cooldown into the Echo Battledome is a bit more demanding than the 4-orb per run strategy. I cant imagine the No-Knight strategy being effective as theres so many more uncontrolled variables I feel that could get things out of hand.

1 ReplyIs it bad if i like 8 orb stat?

3 RepliesSorry......you lost me here. "....LFG teams are consistently beating the heroic raid." LOL

16 orbs cause killing ogres is easy and means the runner doesnt get shot at. Killing knights is easy and people tend to die more during the running anyway

Standard, no teleporting Ogres, less coordination errors.

Edited by Dizzlecess: 12/22/2015 11:40:46 PMI like to do two sets of two blights. It skips the whole running part altogether. Kill knights and detonate on the second and fourth round of blights. Or you can just detonate second one and detonate every round after oryx gets to halfway. Whatever goats your float

3 RepliesIf I am in my regular raid group, i run no knight because my raid team can get it done very quickly with minimal effort. If i am being a sherpa, i will probably do the 16 orb strat.

4 RepliesJust an idea but I'd say a combination of standard and challenge. Detonate 8 to avoid running from bombs, then either 4 and 4 or another 8. This would help prevent the wandering or teleporting ogre on the 3rd or 4th cycle being an issue. Or a knight getting to a stack of blights if it manages to get away. Yes, ideally they should all die as they spawn, but sometimes things just happen.

16 orb strat is easy...but for retards sake I'd say No knight

8 RepliesAgree with you I will use 16orb as it is by far the easiest
