Just a bit of information.
In the official novelization of TFA (which is canon), Supreme Leader Snoke says he witnessed the rise of the Galactic Empire. With the whole Rule of Two (which is also canon) do you think Sidious would have allowed some other dark side (possibly Sith) master to hang around? Unless of course, he thought he had killed him already...
Supreme Leader Snoke also says that Kylo Ren is the most promising student he has ever trained...meaning he's got experience training members of the dark side (possibly a Sith master) and alluding to the fact that Kylo Ren may become a bad ass in the future.

Darth Jar Jar rises again boys

If Snoke saw the rise of the Empire, the theory that he is Plageuis is even better now.
-
Yeah that's my point. I don't think it's very likely that some other dark side master was out there training dark side users without Sidious knowledge. So I think Sidious tried to kill Plageous, he thought he succeeded but failed.
-
In the EU, Plageuis taught Sidious everything he knew (and Plageuis' master taught him, etc), and Sidious killed Plageuis on the night of getting elected Supreme Chancellor. Now that is not canon anymore, Plageuis could very well be alive. That is an exciting possibility.
-
Sidious killed Plageuis on the night of getting elected Supreme.
He left it that late? But... If the Rule of Two was in effect, that would give us three Sith in TPM (Plagueis, Sidious, Maul), and AOTC (Dooku too). So wat.
-
To be fair, the EU usually contradicted the main canon. Another example of breaking the Sith's Rule of Two would be Darth Vader taking Galen Marek as an apprentice.
-
Also, it's just something the Sith made up to prevent infighting. Nothing to prevent it from being broken.
-
Plagueus teaching Sidious everything he knew before Sidious killed him is still canon. It was discussed in Episode III by Sidious himself.
-
Unless it was mentioned in the novelization, Sidious never says Plageuis was his master. All we know, Plageuis could be a myth now to the new order of canon. Just an example that Sidious used to manipulate Anakin.
-
Hmmm...well in the movie Sidious tells the story of Darth Plageous the Wise. He also tells Anakin that his "mentor" taught him the ways of the Dark side. He further tells Anakin that he is the only way he can save his loved one "Use my knowledge, I beg you." I mean it's not explicitly stated but I think it's implied that Sidious was Plageous' Master. Just another bit of conjecture: In the EU (which I understand is no longer canon but JJ said they may draw from) it was said that Plageous created Anakin from the Force. What if that is how Snoke seduces Ben Solo? He's more of a father to Ben than Han is, because Snoke basically led to his creation.
-
What if Sidious didn't know about Snoke, like he may have heard about Snoke, but he's so ancient and is thought dead, after all Snoke is extremely old, probably older than Mas
-
Sidious is considered, in the main canon, to be the most powerful Sith to have ever lived. For him to sense many things (Jedi in the prequels, Anakins/Luke feelings in original) yet not be aware of another massive Sith presence elsewhere is unlikely.
-
I think that would be a huge plot hole. There just happens to be some other dark side master out there training dark side users that Darth Sidious abides? I doubt it.
-
Also a lot of people are theorizing that Snoke is Plageous
-
I am one of those people.

It would make a lot of sense considering his plans. Also it would say something about Kylo Ren as well, since he said that Ren is the strongest student he's had that would make him stronger than Sidious, obviously not to this point but in potential.
