First off, I'm hoping this can be a productive discussion addressing the Sunsinger Perk "Viking Funeral's" usage in competitive play (Sweaties). The perk basically adds extra burn to all Sunsinger grenades and charged melee but is most noted on the Firebolt Grenade.
Why it oversteps its bounds as a competitive perk:

Doubles both the burn time and damage of the "Touch of Flame" perk
Takes away ~70% of health, being able to tag anywhere within an 8m radius, while requiring only limited skill to land
Can tag up to 3 enemies
A 7 second burn time with a follow up recovery period of at least 3 seconds
The only way to evade the grenade is a well timed shadestep
Our argument is that Viking Funeral is a crutch perk. If this is true, it would make sense to remove this perk in the same manner as leading franchises like Call of Duty have done for perks like "Stopping Power," Toughness," and "Lightweight."
We believe it is a crutch perk because if you use a "Sunsinger" and do not utilize Viking Funeral you are at a competitive disadvantage. Furthermore, removing the perk would not eliminate the viability of the class. This is true because pushing power is still achieved through the "Touch of Flame" perk for 3 seconds, maintaining but not overemphasizing the class' impressive current neutral game when combined with flame shield.
The important thing to realize when soloing out the "Viking Funeral" perk as opposed to another crutch perk like "Quickdraw" is the overall viability of the class. With the recent patch, The Bladedancer subclass is decidedly less viable for competitive play; and further stripping of perks like "Quickdraw" or "Hungering Blade" is unnecessary. This is not true for "Viking Funeral."
A disproportionate amount of players are now choosing the "Sunsinger" as their competitive class and we believe it may be due to the excessive strength of this perk.
To Clarify: I am not asking for a nerf, this would only apply to competitive tournaments and "Sweaty" matching.

1 ReplyEdited by vanilla: 12/22/2015 5:32:43 PMfirst off, I'm hoping this can be a productive Why do you keep saying "we believe" and "our argument" when it's only you, just curious . But these aspects, like the melee and grenade power make up for the poor PvP based super. It can be devastating, and I'm not going to lie, I do use this every so often when I play sun-singer in PvP. It's an effective strat, it is a "cheese" in some ways but it's just something we all have to adapt to and learn to counter. They're rather easy to run away from as long as you are not point blank of the grenade.

Well put argument. As a warlock I agree that Viking funeral is a touch op but there is one perk like that in any class.
-
Shadestep grants fire bolt grenade immunity. It can't track you mid shadestep
-
2 RepliesIts either viking funeral or 2 firebolts 2 firebolts will kill you so i think that viking funeral is better left alone
-
Ummm, what? There are stronger aspects of the Sunsinger class. Let me name a few: Fusion Grenade, Fireborn, Flame Shield, and Gift of the Sun. You are NOT at a disadvantage if you aren't using Viking Funereal or burning grenades AT ALL. Fusion Grenades kill anybody if it sticks. Solar Grenades are fantastic traps. As a Warlock main, I don't need to have burning grenades in Trials.
-
3 RepliesTitans grenades and melee have the same burn time and without sacrificing 2 perk slots
-
This is a well-written thread. Surprised that the comments are not.
-
3 RepliesI'm already got nerfed immensely. You're probably new here. Go cry somewhere else, bum.
-
It's really only good in trials in 6v6 it's so quickly paced it will get you a few hundred points
-
6 RepliesWho uses Sunsinger in Crucible? There are so many ways to counter it, it's not even funny...
-
Why don't we focus our time asking for private matches before we talk about modifying rules for sweaty games. That sort of talk should be local in clan chats.
-
Oh, piss off.
-
I do not agree with removing the perc unless the entire subclass is changed. Firebolt, lightning and smoke are the best neutral game grenades (yes I know smoke isn't s grenade) in the game. Each class has one of these. Any nerf to firebolt is a nerf not only the grenade but the subclass super, so you are double dipping with a nerf. The grenade is capable of hitting 3 people, as are many other grenades. My suggestion is for a team to spread out a bit.
-
talk about "sweaty". You use a year one sniper perk to grant you more special ammo at the start lol
-
9 RepliesConsidering firebolt grenades were nerfed a while back I would say keep it. I used to be able to clear a whole team with my radiance by spamming grenades and using burn to mop up the remainders but now firebolt is so weak that there aint much point of using it over fusion grenades and they don't gel well with radiance itself. Honestly Sunsinger is pretty rubbish now and I say that as a massive fan of the subclass
-
I main a sunsinger and your beyond right. It's very strong. I personally run fusion nades but I'm good at sticking people. I believe each class will be looked at over the next few months just like Titans were "touched up". I hope so anyway...

3 RepliesEdited by m00ninite: 12/22/2015 5:22:09 PMDidn't the damage of the actual firebolts get drastically nerfed tho? As well as the bolt radius? Not to mention if you also hit the bolt too close then it doesn't even initiate the burn? Come on now...
-
I agree as sad as it is because I main a warlock but Sunsinger is the strongest class. I always wreck in mayhem with it. And used to love coming across a sunbreaker before the patch
-
6 RepliesViking funeral, flame shield, and firebolt are the only things left good w this class. Loses 1v1 to every other super. Just try it in mayhem. Self res is useless in ToO due to so many res snipe 1000yd stares and invectives/shotgun-melees. Mobility is low. Without those perks, the class is not playable vs storm caller or voidwalker
-
And what do you main? Ahhh. Another salty hunter.
-
One simple counter to this argument is that sunsingers super isn't exactly as great as other competitive supers but it does does make up in its neutral game
-
The firebolt does take some skill due to range nerf. If to far it won't touch them and to close it does minimal damage and provides no burn dot at all. I main a warlock and sunsinger is fun but relatively pales in comparison to other supers.
-
2 RepliesIn most sweaty matches that I know of, they don't allow it. So what is the point of this post?
-
Or you could just not be a pussy.

2 RepliesI don't really care about your argument, but your name made me laugh. So I made up a few more. Synyster milkbag Benevolent breast Malicious mammary Terrifying titty Ferocious funbag And I'm done.
