I think a 1v1 isnt a bad idea either. Maybe on bigger maps only and after each match you must face a new opponent? Maybe 2/3 before moving on even would be ok. Point is not everyone wants to play on a team so why not.

Yea man exactly thats the biggest thing sure playing with friends is fun but what about when no ones on? Would be nice to get good stuff when playing by yourself while trying your best.
