All legendary armor you can EARN exclusively for having the book, or for any SRL promotions, is at light level 3. Only the rewards that everyone can get without buying the book have higher than light level 3. You do not get the light-level 3 gear for buying the book at all, but rather, buying the book gives you the opportunity to earn them by completing certain activities. You have never paid real money for armor in destiny no matter how you want to twist the facts. If you get something you like, then you should lock it if you have a habit of unintended deletions, but don't expect Bungie to replace it, especially after they provided the ability to lock your gear to prevent accidental deletions.
