When it comes to revive enabled game modes such as trials, salvage, skirmish, etc. you want a sniper that can kill a player even if they have a res shield.
Out of all the legendary/exotic snipers in ttk, only 4 can do that.
Eirene rr4 is a sniper that can only be attained from the gunsmith as a package drop or an armsday weapon. It has unfamiliar omolon scopes & a lower than average aim assistance stat so it generally is not used often.
Stillpeircer is a hunter exclusive sniper with decent perks but an awkward scope which can't be changed as it instead has barrel upgrades. It is only attainable from a gunsmith quest which requires you to get 100 sniper kills with a special or sniper telemetry active & then dismantle rare or legendary snipers.
Black spindle is the highest impact sniper in ttk. It has a smaller magazine than the other 3 & it's perks are very pve based. It can only be aquired by completing a challenge mode version of the "lost to light" mission when it is the daily heroic. It has a single scope with varying barrel upgrades meant for different styles of play. While it can be used to great success in pvp by more skilled players it normally isn't used at all as it takes an exotic slot.
1000 yard stare is a vanguard sniper with fairly average stats. It doesn't have requirements to be obtained as it can drop from rare/legendary engrams, vanguard packages, & nightfall strike rewards. It is most commonly obtained from the taken war quest as a reward for one of the beginning sections. It can drop with very good scopes, pvp or pve perks, & has a slightly above average aim assistance stat at 56.
You can get 1000 yard from a ridiculous number of sources compared to the alternatives. It's kind of sad how little variety we've been given when it comes to good snipers.

Exactly, except for citing above average aim assist as a reason for using 1K Yard Stare and low aim assistance for using Eirene RR4. It's usually the opposite. Y1 a lot of people used efrideets spear, which could have -5 aim assistance with the ambush scope. Aim assist is broken down into two categories: Reticle Assist and Bullet Magnetism Reticle assist is basically sticky reticle. It makes your reticle stay a fraction of a second longer on an enemy as you move your reticle over them. Useful for primaries, but not so much for snipers since an enemy running in front of your target will pull you away just enough to miss their head. Bullet magnetism is what helps your shots land when it seems they don't. On primaries it is mostly their to make up for the various range changes Bungie has made over weapon classes (Bungie has confirmed that aim assist is also tied to your weapons range stat) Do I think that lowering this would be nice? Somewhat. I know almost all shooters have bullet magnetism but it does seem destiny has a bit more. Here however, is where snipers set themselves apart. They are not affected by bullet magnetism. Reticle assist still affects them, but aim assist does not essentially widen the hit box like people think all of the sudden.

Very true. People have a weird opinion concerning aim assist. On snipers, the only thing AA does is slow down the reticle when dragging your sniper over a opponent

Sounds like you listened to the latest PD podcast.
