Aim assist is broken down into two categories: Reticle Assist and Bullet Magnetism
Reticle assist is basically sticky reticle. It makes your reticle stay a fraction of a second longer on an enemy as you move your reticle over them. Useful for primaries, but not so much for snipers since an enemy running in front of your target will pull you away just enough to miss their head.
Bullet magnetism is what helps your shots land when it seems they don't. On primaries it is mostly their to make up for the various range changes Bungie has made over weapon classes (Bungie has confirmed that aim assist is also tied to your weapons range stat)
Do I think that lowering this would be nice? Somewhat. I know almost all shooters have bullet magnetism but it does seem destiny has a bit more.
Here however, is where snipers set themselves apart. They are not affected by bullet magnetism. Reticle assist still affects them, but aim assist does not essentially widen the hit box like people think all of the sudden.
But it still helps.... ALOT
Take the 1000 yrd aim assist vs the Glass P (new trials sniper)
1000 yrd will win every time simply because of its aim assist.
Im not ssying youre wrong you are "1000" percent right.
But AA does indeed make a difference.
I mean thats what made Her Benevolence so good; the ability to reroll it for max AA.
Not necessarily. It really only helps in quick scopes and drag snipes. In year one AOE of the most popular snipers had very low aim assist LDR and Efrideets spear, and the most popular scope was ambush, which lowers aim assist.
Most good snipers want less aim assist because it can mess up there shots occasionally
