Ever since 2.1.0 was released TLW is gaining popularity. However, you've been having trouble with your last word
especially if you're still doing the Chaperone Quest.
, If you're the average TLW user, you've been using TLW a lot. When you go ADS, and you hold and draw the gun, you're feeling the same thing. So this guide will assist you become the western outlaw.
Did you try turning it off and on?
Kidding. But, really, what I'm asking is if you've tried using it extensively. And by extensively, I mean having it equipped for like a week or so. give yourself a chance to reset
So, naturally, you have all this muscle-memory telling you "hey, if I do this, this will happen." But it's not.
So, the first thing you should try, is actually giving TLW a chance to re-grow on you
Were you using old software (Aggressive Ballistics)?
If you were, Don't EVER. AB takes your range down to actually nothing. It removes 15 Aim-assist. Basically, it makes the problem a hell of a lot worse. And all you get out of this is the ability to three-hit-kill certain armor buildesand that's with hip-fire. Not to mention that getting that 3-hit is damn near impossible with no range and -15 AA.
Try using Soft Ballistics. Again, you'll have to get used to the recoil pattern. But it keeps your range-stat up, and gives you a nifty boost to Aim-assist.
You won't be able to 3-hit hip-fire certain armor builds. But for overall consistency, the 4-hit with soft will net you more kills, with more flexibility, and more motion.
Were using anything else but Perfect Balance? Even though Perfect Balance gives -20% Range, the other perks doesn't help you and the gun. Stick with it.
Unless you're MLG Pro.
Were you using it properly?
Here's a nice List:
5-15m. Hip-fire. This is about the entire length of the diving board on cauldron. Spam body-shots and ADS the last bullet OR ADS first shot then hipfire. At 10-15m, you can also ADS and pace three headshots, giving a small bit of extra time to allow the reticle to completely reset.
15-25m. This is about the distance from A or B door, to diving board door on cauldron. Paced body shots.
25-30m. You should probably be drawing that sniper here. This is the range where you actively don't engage in gun-fights. If your target that is weak moves into this range, make sure your reticle is completely reset, and aim it at the center of the shoulders. Again, don't engage in a gunfight at this distance, only clean-up kills, and finish gun-fights that you've started.
30m+. Bring a sniper.
But Cayde, Why Would I Bring a Last Word to a Gunfight if I have to Do All This Shit Now?
well, skeptical reader, maybe you shouldn't. The only reason you use TLW, is due to its fast, full-auto, body-shot kill-times. And occassionally, you get off a blazing fast three-hit headshot.
More common due to the buff.
Its hip-fire allows you to reasonably use it in the air at extremely close-range (think jump over the head of a shot-gunner close-range). You can jump towards targets to close distance.
the hip-fire makes it extremely easy to deal with incoming targets, as you know exactly where they are coming from.
Most importantly, You are a confident sniper at mid-range. What I mean by this, is that if you're expecting a target to come sprinting through a corridor at only 20-30m away, you can guarantee that you'll be able to hit that target.
It's also a great spammable gun to pull out after sniper body-shots.
Treat it like a side-arm for your sniper
Double-check the range you're using it at. With almost no aim-assist after 30m, you can't reasonably expect to consistently hit a target.
Put the middle of the reticle on the middle of the target. With other handcannons, you might be used to the entirety of the reticle representing the area where your bullet will go. With TLW, you can't do this while ADS. you need to be using the small red-dot to center your aim.
Don't snap-shot and expect to hit easy follow-ups. It takes a fraction of a second after going ADS for initial accuracy to clamp down. Firing too early will make follow-up shots difficult (I know weisnewski said that ADS removes all bloom. You have a handcannon with like 5 range. It's not a normal gun). Have your gun pre-aimed, and use the extra aiming time to center the target. After that, just spam away.
You're just getting lag that is otherwise unnoticeable. Normally, your gun's aim-assist and magnetism help disguise latency. But TLW has almost none near the edge of its range. Latency is part of the reason that shooters have aim-assist in the first place. So if you're doing all of the above, then it might just be that. Hope this helps! Cayde-6, out
TL:DR Git gud

Kidding, Keep practicing with Soft Ballistics and stick with perfect balance.
2 RepliesJust to say, I use Aggressive ballistics and perfect balance. The range drop off isn't even noticeable. Perhaps it's just my preference but AB ALL the way. Using SB it just doesn't feel the same. Just my preference
