now hear me out, this isnt me whining, if pulse rifles are weak im fine with that, this is more just me thinking.
before the patch pulse rifles time to kill (time to kill) was basically about the same as a handcannon (look it up, mathematical fact). the problem was handcannons were innacurate, the end result was pulse rifles being more forgiving, while being faster or as fast of TTK then handcannons, autos, and scouts. scouts had an edge in long range, auto in close, but imo neither defined enough. pulse, especially fast fire rate pulses were easy enough to use in close range to compete with autos, and many had long enough ranges to compete with scouts at long range. that imo was the biggest issue, and it was addressed.
but this damage nerf, from both pvp and pve perspectives seems heavy handed.
removing low ROF pulses ability to 2 burst, making them one of hte slowest killing primaries in the game. There is literally no reason to use a low ROF pulse (perhaps they are trying to phase it out? there is not very many). medium kills in the same number of bursts.
so now pulse rifles kill slower then handcannons, who occupy the same range territory (medium) but are also more mobile.
this basically completly overshadows pulse rifles in PVP, they have no real purpose outside of people who just like pulse rifles. from an efficiency standpoint, auto/handcannon/scout are the ONLY primaries worth there salt in pvp anymore. if pulses could have kept its damage mostly untouched combined with the range nerfs there would have been SOME give and take between handcannons and pulse rifles. handcannons would be more mobile but require more skill to land the headshots, pulse rifles would be more forgiving but much less mobile when firing.
PVP=pulse rifles are mathematically a dead primary, people will still use them of course, but just because you use it doesnt mean its not completly wanting in every aspect in PVP
now, PVE, this is where i was surprised. i took my villainy and my jade rabbit/tlaloc into a hard mode raid BEFORE the nerf. both tlaloc and jade rabbit had to 2 shot kill the acolytes, this annoyed me, took out villainy and could one burst them, much more efficient. But now, the same targets, with the same gun, 2 bursts with the villainy, even if i landed all headshots they were left with a sliver of life. i was shocked, i seriously thought i was just messing up shots until i heard about the true numbers on the nerf. my villainy has 27 rounds, thats 9 bursts, i can kill 4 targets before having to reload, meanwhile a tlaloc had 19 rounds, able to kill 8 targets before a reload. evne if i had 30-33 rounds thats 5 targets to 8 on a tlaloc, or 5 on a jade rabbit but due to its unique features it makes little difference.
pulse rifles are now simply completly innefficient in PVE, scouts were already the preferred weapon 9 times out of 10, now its no contest.
pulse rifles are in play, deadweight in PVE compared to a scout.
in short pulse rifles, are just weak enough to be redundant in both PVP and PVE
This all said, im ok with this in truth, i have a bunch of autos and scouts that are good for both pvp and PVE, and a couple decent handcannons (got to work on my handcannons).
I just wanted this to be known, if your using a pulse rifle, at this point its because you like pulse rifles, because they are sub par for everything. they are overhsadowed completly by handcannons/scouts in pvp in there respective ranges (autos im unsure) and in PVE its scouts or your just playing what you like, not whats efficient.
this all said...despite my numerous nice scouts for PVE, kinda want to get my not like the others vendor role back...dont know why it just served me so well in PVE.

3 RepliesMy hunter's pulse rifle of choice (the Lydmilla) got a brutal 20% nerfing, and it is now near-useless in the Crucible. I would be interested to know if there is any legendary pulse rifle that can still hold up in PvP.
-
My adept still doing a great job in trials
-
6 RepliesMy mercy was 32 headshot. Now it's 22. So some math. 22÷32=68.25. 100-68.25=mega nerf or 31.75% reduction
-
They work fine in pve
-
I feel like pulses are a bridge between long and short range. The lower impact ones combat against Autorifles and handcannons while the higher impact ones combat against scout rifles. I've used both spare change and red death, and I have to admit, spare change feels like it has a lot more range. It is also fine. I don't think it's bad. But I feel like it definitely has more range and accuracy.
-
4 RepliesQuestion: I have a headseeker Spare Change. I haven't played on my titan (where my Spare Change is) since before patch. How changed is this archetype + headseeker now?
-
1 ReplyI haven't played much PvP since the patch, but I find Pulse rifles to be my go-to choice for PvE. They're just decent at every situation.
-
4 RepliesPpl are forgetting that pulse rifle sucked in year one. And bungie made them op to get ppl to use them! Now that they are in their attended category you can't seem to adapt to the change and learn how to use them rite!
-
5 RepliesMy GoM disagrees with you.
-
2 RepliesMy pulse rifle does fine. Don't even notice a difference
-
3 RepliesPulse rifles are ass now. It's all about MIDA.
-
Red death still destroys for me
-
2 RepliesYeah cause they didnt actually buff autorifles
-
3 RepliesOnly a select few still have a place they got hit hard a little to much. I miss using my grasp of malok. Autorifles feel excalty the same. Fusion rifles are nerfed continuously they should remove them from the game. Soon they will be no reason to use them. (318 susnaoo) :( As for shotguns the only ones unaffected by the nerf are the only ones that were a nuisance. Conspiracy, invective and party crasher. Sidearms actually feel amazing now ironwreath for the win.

1 ReplyMy Suros PDX-45 is just as sweet as pre-patch. I'm getting constant 1.5+K/D in crucible with it, it is my big middle finger to everyone whining/begging about meta weapons. Scroll to the end of my playlist. My last game (13k/6d) is still visible. Your argument is invalid because pulse rifles kill due to accuracy and time on target. Shoot, move, communicate. I'm accurate. And I shoot and move. And I choose weapons that cater to this strategy. And I talk. You may be missing one or more of these.
-
6 RepliesI haven't used them since before the great pulse rifle buff and even then I only used the timepeice, I am also wondering if they are still good I'd like to use them again, I don't want nirwins mercy I hardly got killed by it when everyone was using it, I rarely see No time to explain but when I do its always in good hands bcuz i have a hard time beating it with TLALOC when I dominate the groups I'm in using it, what are some good pulse rifles that are STILL worthy of use in the crucible
-
Yea I agree with whatever you're saying bro
-
Yes they do. My hawksaw went from 27 to 25 in pvp.
-
Yeah, they got hit a little harder than expected. They're not even fun to use.
-
Pulse rifles are still pretty good.
-
10 RepliesEdited by Paniller: 12/11/2015 8:42:26 PMBalance != TTK. Balance = TTK * range factor. Scouts should have the lowest TTK, hand cannons the highest. A hand cannon should have the fastest primary TTK. It has a major range limitation. It requires the most skill to use, because it will be used in close quarters where enemy movement is faster and are more dificult to target. You also are at a major limitation anywhere open in the map. If we balance based upon TTK alone, then why use any weapon other than a scout and a sniper rifle?
-
2 RepliesI've been doing just fine with mine? Do you aim?
-
Mine have a place... in my vault. That 20% nerf was totally excessive.
-
1 ReplyNope you need 1000 yard stare or last word...
-
10 RepliesNah, they aren't dead at all. Red death still trashes. And a hawksaw dropped from the cryptarc with maximum stability and good gunsight. It's a really good gun but not op. Now, those four burst hakke pulse, the low impact ones, those may be dead. Before the new patch it did bursts of 25 damage. Was pretty good. Now the hawksaw does 25. I'm guessing the hakke one does like 22-23 now. Borderline worth using.

3 RepliesEdited by Kone19ps: 12/11/2015 5:01:13 PMRun and gun pulse works great. Pve just tends to fall more towards keeping your distance which makes scouts preferable for many. Outside of the raid pulses work great still. Pvp again just can't snipe with pulses anymore
