Use the strafe and hit gates
-
Redbull sparrow. All stats are the same as other sparrows of SRL except the boost is a notch higher. In a game filled with boost gates, well, you do the math
-
Those OP Tess Everiss sparrows
-
Turning is everything. Never brake. Use side boosts to redirect your sparrow. Do tricks like superman grab as often as possible to build side boost up.

Git gud skrub

If you ain't first your last.
-
Get first place.

The only advice I can give is learn the maps. Remember the turns, hit the gates, and use your brakes and strafes to take the sharp corners. Just practice and you'll do fine eventually

2 RepliesHonestly, I bought a sparrow with silver. I was using the Ravensteel and never finished higher than last place. Some races would be near flawless runs and no deaths and hit the most gates in the field and still finished last. I would lose by 15 seconds on average. Well, today I bought a sparrow. First race with new sparrow and I finished second. I thought my strategy to racing was too bad or skill stunk. I haven't changed and now I consistently finish in the top 4. With the Ravensteel I couldn't compete. Now I have the void sparrow and can compete every race even while messing up royally.

Get lucky with a boosting sparrow

A few people have already mentioned it but check your controller if it has trigger locks then you're not getting full throttle. For tactics I recommend practicing using your brake AND hitting the slide/dodge button (bumpers or by pressing the sticks like a button) if you do it correctly there are problem turns that you can breeze through using this. For example the tight turn that leads into a tunnel on Venus. The tight turn that is underneath the shortcut on Venus after you hit the cliff where the fallen ship sometimes is, I can hit both gates and brake/slide through faster than people who take the shortcut and maintain speed. The combo of brake and slide is really good. I've been hitting first place fairly consistently the past two days. Also be patient, when you get one of the new racing sparrows you will improve, they are better than standard sparrows.

The sparrow makes absolutely no difference. They're all for looks. They're all the same speed and handle the same. It's driver error and overthinking. It's the same as any other racing game. Just get used to how to get the sparrow to move the way you need it to. I haven't finished worse than third and I was using the ravensteel and tumbler.

1 Replylearn what gates to hit.. I found that some gates will thrust you into walls/ obstacles. I avoid those. Then there's the short cuts no one uses. Don't know how many times those took me from last to first instantly. Good Luck

1 ReplyEdited by Darth Lauder: 12/12/2015 11:31:11 PMGet good at using the bumpers and timing gates. A controller with remappable paddles helps a lot. Map the paddles to left and right bumper. Don't brake just let off the throttle or use bumpers to adjust. Run enough laps and you'll figure out how to line up each section and it'll get better, just practice. Also level up race gear for the perks (still easy to win without it) but it could give you an edge. Throw tricks on the big jumps if you have the perks to refill bumper energy.

I once won with a white sparrow

Edited by bilbo t baginzz: 12/12/2015 10:51:01 PMi rarely lose and i use the tumbler lol. Gotta use those bumpers so you can hit all the gates.. hitting more gates will give you more fuel to use your bumpers again.

Git gud

Practice practice practice. Record gameplay. Rewatch to learn the maps. To learn where you mess up. To learn how to fix it.
or just dont do it, like me XD
I've raced at least 100 times 99 times I've been dead last

Strafe, strafe, strafe. Tight and clean corners are better than going out of your way to hit a gate. If people are bumping brake and watch them fly into the wall, not worth getting caught up in trading paint if you're looking to win. Also find it helpful to let everyone else go out of the starting gate and wait about 3-5 seconds before you go. That'll give you a chance to focus on the first few gates and build momentum without many distractions. Hit that first turn tight and zoom zoom right by the rest.

Never brake!
-
Learn the shortcuts, use side-thrusters to help with really sharp turns, and make a conscious effort to not drive into obstacles.
-
You have to hit the gates
