*NOTE: I am currently apart of the top legendary firefight team. So yes, I know what I am doing.*
This guide is played out on the map Alpha Site. If you wish to see a guide for other Firefight maps (eventually all of them), I ask that you visit This thread by SeasonedVeteran or This thread by Dropship Dude. If you need the Vidmaster Endure achievement, I suggest you begin here.
Even 24hours after release, People have managed to get all the vidmasters. To those that did this, I say congrats (and a pat on the back). I am here to give my advice and to answer questions on getting the vidmaster endure acheivement.
First: Dedicate about 2-3 hours of playtime, since you will have to conquer 60 waves of increasingly difficult enemies.
Second: WORK AS A TEAM! Communicate, don't do anything too bold.
Lets begin: The level of choice (ie the easiest) is "Alpha Site." The reason I picked this is because it is a close quarters map enough that the enemy has to be funneled into one location (the center elevator area).
Map of "Alpha Site" with labels
Left Stairs - 2 people hold this position
Right Stairs - 2 people hold this position as well
* - Location for SMG's, Pistols, and Health
$ - Location of Rocket Launcher
# - Location of Sniper Rifle and Shotgun
Arrows - Path enemies will take to attack you.
Explosion - Where the ambush (and action) should occur.
4edged star - grunt nest locations for Bonus rounds.
Thanks to Ketner for the map overview!
Before you begin, I recommend turning on "Grunt Birthday Skull." I say this not only for the entertainment it provides, but it has a strategic advantage (one everyone will like!) later.
I also recommend you familiarize yourself with weapon locations. Note that there are two stairways which constitute as spawnpits (where YOU will spawn). In the corners (to the side of the stairs) are caches of SMG's and Pistols. You will need to know this for later. Shotgun and Sniper are located in the middle pillar. There is a rocket launcher outside, in the middle of the main middle wall. CAUTION: These weapons can only be used once every 5 waves, so use them sparingly.
Let's begin. This strategy is going to be like washing your hair: Lather, rinse, repeat.
To begin, I recommend having two people set up in front of left stairs, and two people in front of right stairs, as to cover straight line sights of the ONLY TWO entrances your enemies can take. Hold this position the entire time, don't venture off (that's how you die!). The enemies will come to you, and you already have an ambush set!
The first wave is always simple: grunts and jackals. Take advantage of your pistol scope and pick off infantry from a distance. (I recommend for maximum points that you wait until grunts get into a group, and kill all of them at once for a killstreak multiplier). After the first wave, Have one person from each side switch their SMG for a Plasma Pistol (is he for real?).
Waves 2, 3, 4, and 5 vary. Sometimes it will be brutes, sometimes drones, sometimes a hunter will appear, and mostly, a combination of the above. In these waves, I recommend employing a similar stratagy as Wave 1, take out the weak from afar! This will leave you with the big targets (ie the Brutes).
*YOU WILL LEARN TO LOVE THE PLASMA PISTOL!!!*
After clearing out infantry (grunts, jackals, drones), all that's usually left are Brutes. Here's the quickest, most effective, and most point affective method for taking down these monstrocities. With a fully charged plasma pistol, fire it at the brute. NOTE that the brute will be stunned for about a second! Take advantage of this, pull out your pistol, pop a shot in his head! You will get a "My Clothes!" medal along with a headshot medal, giving you an extra multiplier.
My method for dealing with HUNTERS: Hunters can be very troublesome! To deal with them, have one person stay close enough to keep him from firing his cannon. Have the 'bait' person lead the hunter away from the team (have one person go left stairs and bait go right stairs for example). The three non bait teammates unload on the hunters back! NOTE during the black eye skull, that hitting a hunter in the back is probably the easiest way to get your health back!
My method for dealing with BRUTE CHIEFTAINS: I'd combine my methods of taking out a hunter and brute. Plasma Pistol the cheiftain, and tagteam him until he goes down. NOTE that he can activate invincibility! DO NOT FEAR! One swift smack to the back not only voids his invincibility, but kills him instantly. So employ the 'bait' strategy and get someone to get the backsmack.
Posted by: Fanamdara
He left out the easiest way to beat the chieftains... During the 4th wave have your designated chieftain killer get a fresh plasma pistol, soon as the 4th wave is over and you see recruitments on top the killer goes runs and gets the rocket launcher. Once the cheiftains come in 1 charged plasma pistol shot and 1 rocket will kill each one.
Bonus Round Strategy
- To begin, if you look up, to the left and right are windows above the elevator shafts. Here are where the grunts will drop from, making it rain grenades. If you are not careful, you will die very very quickly. My strategy however, is super easy and can get you a killionaire while your at it.
HOW TO GET THAT KILLIONAIRE (UPDATED!): With a rocket launcher in hand, go back to the far stairs (near SMG and Pistol spawns). Stand on the stairs, aiming your rocket launcher into the room (try to aim it so it hits as far inside the room as possible. Thats why you are standing soo far back!). The announcer will say two things: "All Skulls ON" and "Iron ON". Think of "All skulls on" as "get ready". As soon as the announcer says "IRON ON", shoot your rocket. If done correctly, you will get anywhere from a killimanjaro to a killionaire. I suggest you fire one rocket in one window, and another in the other.
Killionaire from Alpha Site. This was done solo normal, but at the 39min mark, I pull off the killionaire in extremely easy fashion. I advise you check it out if you get the time.
If you play conservative and follow this guide for the fist two sets, you should end up with a team total of over 35 LIVES! That's plenty to get through to the end of the 4th set.
Once you complete the 4th set, and set 5 begins, your acheivement will unlock.
REMINDER: Plasma Pistol + Pistol are your BEST FRIENDS against BRUTES (who in groups can be very devastating). Good luck! Have any questions? Post them here, and I will try my best to answer them1 Good luck, and enjoy your Road to Recon!
LINK to my VIDMASTER: ENDURE game. Yes, it was legit, including the medals. Take some time, check it out. Sorry I can't get a heatmap to help better describe locations (ie weaponspawns).
Posted by: Capt Stoneheart Lost Platoon is officially the easiest. Choppers take down every enemy in one splatter and the wraiths are nothing with one guy manning the laser. The only challenge is the brutes with fuel rod cannons, but then get the two guys in choppers to go up the stairs and help take them down. We got to Set 4 Round 3 Wave 4 and one of our guys left.
Really? wow i know how that feels... hit me up if you want to try tomarrow.

WORKS!!! great strategy with key points
Posted by: PNut d kidnaper Wish I would of waited for someone to figure this out. Wasted 2 hours on Lost Platoon dealing with horrible lag. 2 waves away from completion and we get lagged out. Do not try it on this map! We were all in choppers and our connections couldn't handle everything going on. I knew it was a bad idea to begin with.
actually i got pretty far on lost platoon. the trick is to camp in the building. do not go out for anything except for the laser. use the laser only on wraiths. stick together and if it doesn't lag like mine, you'll get higher than set 4.
-
Ok, now I'm sure all of you people who got to within a few waves of this are pissed off, but suck it up. I was playing with some friends today and we were within three, not waves, enemies. There were three brutes left, and we died. The worst thing is that first, the grunt birthday party thing didn't work for us and second, I was team killed three times and I am sure we would have got it if not for one guy who kept using the launcher near us
-
thanx
-
used this strat and got it. it helps if you stockpile weaps in the elevator...and dont get upset
-
i agree i made is to set 4 round 2 today and we lagged out. This achievement would be easy too

Bungie did a great job creating this game, just one stupid bug thats been affecting everyone I know. I have all the Vidmaster's except for this one. Everytime I get extremely close to getting my Recon armor this stupid bug has to come along and screw it up. What I'm talking about is the "Lost Connection" Bug or plain old "Lagging out". It's really starting to piss people and myself off. I've attempted multiple times and have gotten as far as Set 4 each time, and this bug always happens. Now I know what your thinking, It's my connection, Well guess what... It isin't. It has to be something wrong with the game whether it's a server problem or just too many players. Bungie, all I'm asking is to please try and find a solution to this massive problem!

I have been cheated from Endure three times. Perfect Connection, 32 lives, disconnect at end of set 3. FAIL. May I suggest Carbines are better than AutoMag for chieftains? Because they are, by a long shot.
-
thanks now i can get the last vidmaster.
-
I was at the beginning of the last round when I lagged out. Everything was going great up until then. We had around 20 lives left. I felt like crying when all of our characters froze.
-
It would be great if someone could halp me I have tried it 7 time on Alpha Site and Lost Platoon and still no luck. Add me if you can help GT: Artiic Warrior. PLZ Help. I also need the deja Vu achievement.
-
Epic guide. Might try this tonight.
-
My friends and I tried this out last night, and we got annihilated on the 5th wave of the third round, first set. 3 Brute Chieftans came with hammers and piled us, it wasn't fun. We didn't even get to the bonus round, so we suck. Also, the lag didn't help much. So yeah, hopefully we can get better at this. Because this achievement certainly isn't easy, especially in my case because I'm only halfway decent at Halo, not "good". :P Thanks for the tips though.
-
hey could you help me get it? whenever i try to get some people in we either dont have enough or we have one retarded person in the group
-
Posted by: TheRealSmobo Not playing with retards is the best thing you can do.
QFT. And to anyone that wants to play, I need urgent help. I've been playing on Lost Platoon and can only manage to get to the 3rd set 3rd Round and about wave 4-5. I'm thinking about doing it on Alpha Site, but I don't know much about the map. If anyone that needs it too or anyone who has already got it on this map, please, play with me. Gamertag: Mythic LCA I will be on live as soon as I find 3 willing participants.

Not playing with retards is the best thing you can do.

I'm going to be available all day for endure or deja vu. I'm skilled and am good at playing conservitivly. Message or invite anytime. Gamertag: THF reborn

***some things that may help*** -first be aware of CATCH skull!!! whenever catch is on...be very conscience of it, the four of us would yell "nades" whenever we saw an alien -blam!- his arm back! like yelling pass run in football, it makes you aware. call out fuel rods hunters, beam rifles and chieftans as soon as you spot them also. -second, we used this technique also, in each group of two, we had a guy using ALL covie weapons, and the other used all UNSC weapons, this may not work for everyone, but doing this helps. i used all UNSC weapons and my partner used all covie and neither one of us fell short on ammo. there is plenty of UNSC ammo for one guy on each side, but not for 2. this also saves one guy on each side from having to go to the middle alot, leaves UNSC guy to cover covie weapon guy. -one guys bait and one guy assasinate chieftans, best way. -DONT be selfish, if you really want this achievy, focus on staying alive and keeping your buddy alive, NOT getting kills. the only medal you should think about while playing is invincible for not dying! -
-
canyou help me get deja vu? :PPPlease? :) gt: sscorpLon [Edited on 09.26.2009 10:20 AM PDT]

*Thread saved* I will definatly use this... next time i go to my grandparents! when i'm at my house whenever i am playing on live and the phone rings it cuts out unless i'm at my grandparents using there internet. i tried to get annual so many times a while ago and then ended up beating it with my friends arez inferno and draco in less than 2 hours with no inturruptions
-
Maybe if This game didn't lagg so much, i'd have about three different sets of endure right now, ive gotten to 3rd set fifth round, then we lagg out. -Blam!-in' lagg.
-
Worst thing ever... 4th set, 5th wave, last man standing, facing a brute chieftain, and he died!
