the storm
Told by one of the imperium's field officers
It began, early morning. We were holding the perimeter. Nothing out of the ordinary, just double shifts since the mercs left. First came the fighters, anything that could hit a plane was destroyed, AA, our own birds, anything that looked capable. Then silence as we tended to our wounded and maned positions. That's when the bombs started in earnest. They bombed us to hell, roads buildings, defensive positions, didn't matter if it posed a threat it went down. When they stopped... That's when they rained from the sky. Plane after plane dropped tank and soldiers from its belly. When they landed they immediately opened fire, all forming up and attacking. We were overwhelmed, we didn't have the men. Some of my men tried to counter attack from buildings, but anything we got close to was leveled. Artillery shells hit our rear, we tried to reach HQ on comms but they were already taken out. It was all over before 1500. Now I'm sitting in this camp talking to a reporter like you, who's wondering how we lost....
The Golden city, occupied
Lieutenant Tarkov wandered the streets of the golden city, his rifle slung on his back. The lighting fast strike hadn't taken the whole city for them, only a sizable portion. The southern section was unclaimed, the center was contested and the western zones still held on. He was more interested in finding a decent meal, rations being rations after all. He stopped when he came to the rubble of a building, stopping to pick up a child's bear. Had his people destroyed this one or had it been someone or something else. It mattered little in the end, that was the nature of war, innocent people get hurt, as much as it pained him to think of it. He set the bear sitting on top of the rubble and said a quick prayer before wandering onward.
