Q: So what the heck is Halo: The Lost Album?
A: Halo: The Lost Album is an unofficial album that I've put together which features 11 (mostly) unreleased tracks from Halo: Combat Evolved (Halo 1).

Q: Why would I want to listen to (mostly) unreleased tracks (and what's the deal with this 'mostly' thing)?
A: If you really love Halo, and particularly Halo music, then you love to get your hands on all of the content that you can aquire. While these are indeed (for the most part) unreleased tracks, there are some surprisingly mature musical concepts here that didn't end up turning into a full scale songs for the game, though, as a lover of Halo and music alike, I feel they are definitely worth listening to. I've had these on my computer and listen to the mroe Halo-esque ones regularly as I do with the rest of the Halo soundtrack collection.
As for the (mostly) denotation, a few of these songs have indeed made it to Halo one way or another. I believe the track titled 'Old Stuff' plays in the background when you are watching footage of Captain Keys riding with a group of marines in a Pelican, on the Halo: CE level - 343 Guilty Spark. The track titled 'Lost Song' was featured in the game, but not in the soundtrack. Marty at one point noted that he forgot to at a loop limit to the song, so sometimes players could hear it for a long time if they were stuck playing that part of the level for a long time (I'm fairly certain that the song is featured in Assault on the Control Room).

Q: Where did you find these tracks?
A: A long time ago, they were somewhat prominently featured in Bungie.net's Halo outtakes section. However, as time has moved forward and so has Bungie.net, the Halo section has taken a seat on the backburner to be built up around games like Halo 2, 3, and so on. Thus, the Halo section was a bit less taken care of, and the section which featured these tracks eventually became fairly hidden. As of the just released Bungie.net update, there are no public links that will take you to the page where you can download the content, I had to dig trial and error my way through some various URLs to find it. It still exists on the site if you are interested (http://www.bungie.net/projects/marathon/asset_thumb_viewer.aspx?at=55&cc=25)

Q: Track list?
A: I ordered the tracks starting with several that you'll recognize as Halo songs, and ended the track listing with the ones that are decidedly not what you are used to hearing when it comes to Halo
1. Battle Sketch
2. Fast Sketch
3. Halo Love Theme Song
4. Lost Song
5. Rhythm Variant Sketch
6. String Sketch
7. Club
8. Old Stuff
9. Tron
10. Seriously?
11. What?
Total Run Time: 12:09

Q: Ok! Enough already, I don't care about music that much for your to elaborate any more, but I'm interested, can you give me the music now?
A: Sure! Download Halo: The Lost Album. Enjoy!

Q: I love Halo trivia so I'm reading on... what can you offer me?
A: I'm glad you've hung around! If you listen carefully, you'll notice that the track 'String Sketch' is very similar to the very last song that you hear in Halo 3 'Wake Me When You Need Me'. I believe that the latter is based on the former, which is really cool to think that it came full loop from being cut from Halo: CE, but ended up as a beautiful song performed by a real orchestra, and closed the Halo trilogy.
Don't forget to thank Marty O'Donnell and the rest of the audio team at Bungie who have worked so hard to make amazing music for the games that we love so much!

Posted by: HLG Newbers Wow, no offense. I mean I like Halo music and all. But don't you think outside music is something that people need? I don't mean rap or anything. Just maybe like.. Rock or something. Try listening to Slipknot or 3 days grace.
Trust me, I listen to a ridiculously wide range of genres, but I can appreciate good music when I heard it, and Halo's music stands alone without just being 'video game music'. It is actually great music on its own.
