Edit: Well, it looks like I am some sort of minority. Lots of people seem to like them, though. Arguably the best Scout Rifle for PvP, or at least the most versatile, is the MIDA. I use it all the time just because it can kill in 4 shots, has a higher fire rate than most 4 shot Scout Rifles, and has a pretty good range for most situations.
Also something people have been saying is that most maps aren't really designed for Scout Rifles, especially new maps, and I agree. Exodus Blue in particular makes me cringe everytime I get put on it. There's very few areas that aren't obstructed by obstacles, so about 97% of the map is close range, making the act of using a Scout Rifle suicide if you aren't really good with them. This is also why I love Combined Arms so much. It's some of the only times where Scout Rifle users really shine.
I've watched a lot of videos on Youtube of people playing Destiny and even read some of the forums. I've looked at a lot of peoples' stats on Destiny Tracker as well, and I usually see that Scout Rifles are some of the least used weapons in PVP.
So, what gives?
My Hunter has a 1.9 KD in Crucible, and I've used Scout Rifles almost exclusively. Something like The Scholar can outclass Snipers at long range, Vision of Confluence can outclass Pulse Rifles and Auto Rifles at mid-range, and the Multi-tool or, to a lesser extent, B-Line Trauma, can outclass Hand Canons at close range. Those are just examples that I use.
I don't believe that I'm just part of a minority who can use Scout Rifles properly, though it may be possible. I think anyone can be good with one if they practice.
Is it because they're hard to get into, and so people just tend to stick to other weapons that are easier to use, or what?

Because they never used MIDA :)
-
9% of people need to git gud...
-
Tlaloc while running Sunsinger is a blast!
-
They're good weapons if used properly. There's just hardly any maps that let you do so efficiently.

1 ReplyMy saterriene rapier had literally max range with high stability and firefly. All during January to march, I was regularly using it to counter snipe every sniper I saw. It only took 3-4 shots quick shots to down a sniper from across the map. I was countering hand cannon users all the time too. The scholar was good in selective cases for me. Still have both since I did so much with them.

1 ReplyJust started using the tlaloc and I'm really liking it. Same with my hung jury unless its a map with a lot of hallways and such
-
2 RepliesPeople don't like scout rifles in crucible because they are balanced....you also have to do this aiming thing that most people are awful at.
-
Love scouts, but most encounters are with Pulse Rifles and lose unless I'm long range but a lot of the more common maps for me are short range maps which PR's and Shotguns dominate.
-
Just uncommon when were they every uncommon during the times they made thorn op and rn pulse rifles kinda op
-
1 ReplyThere good but pulse rifles are better
-
Umm tllaloc?

I got my first "ran out of medals" with the jade rabbit so trust me scouts are good. I could of got a higher killstreak but you know can't do much when a titan hammer just jumps into a room and throes hammers like crazy because it announce to the whole lobby that you're on a 25 streak.
-
They're not forgiving if you miss shots
-
Good just better options
-
Scouts are good, but you gotta keep your distance for the most part, which isn't the easiest thing to do on most of these small maps.
-
Edited by NYDIBS: 12/2/2015 9:40:33 PMits not that they are not good, its just pulse rifles have too much range and, at the range you need to be for scouts to be most effective, might as well snipe
-
People say it's the maps but snipers have no issues with the maps, running around using a sniper in cqc etc. So that's only part of it. It's really the radar which makes people want to just run at each other until they get red on thier radar. Someone in a youtube vid said the radar was like a magnet and that was a pretty good description.

They like each weapon is situational. Most maps especially the new ones are not suited to Scouts in general. Though I'm looking forward to trying out my DIS-47 auto scout.
-
I have a Hung Jury with near max stability which begs to differ. Heads get hunted.
-
Well i Only use the rabbit so. .

Scout Rifles are great in PvP. Anyone saying otherwise is delusional.

imo most of the maps don't really cater to scouts. sure, most maps have those 1 or 2 alleys where you'd be able to leverage the range, but most of the fights don't happen in those alleys and that's because fighting in the open in destiny pvp is just flat out stupid. if only 1 in 10 of your fights will really be at 'long' range, it doesn't make much sense to run something that's mid-long range. i run a pulse/shotgun combo most of the time unless it's a big map or team that's staying in the spawn/locked down an area and then i might switch to pulse/sniper when i really have that long range need. pulse rifles just cover the short/mid range too well and are still effective enough to pick people off at pretty extreme range.
-
They've never been bad in pvp but they've always had something that outclasses them. First it was auto rifles, then hand cannons and now pulse rifles. The current maps also don't help. Most of them are built toward pulse rifle ranges and don't have long enough sight lines for scouts to have the advantage without getting nailed by snipers. Hopefully with the upcoming update, scouts and autos see a bit of a comeback since pulses are taking a bit of of a hit.

I always suck with scouts in pvp but i know some people do well with them. Personal preference i guess. I have witnessed first hand the damage mida can do in the right hands
-
Honestly, I just have trouble deciding to choose one because I enjoy attempting to sniper, and using two long range oriented weapons is not the best idea.
