MMO = highly immersive, open world, strong storyline, heavy social integration (trading, guilds, raids)
FPS = balanced matchmaking, laddering/ranking system, balanced weaponry (short, mid and long range) weapons
Somehow this game has neither of the above for MMO or FPS.
My suggestion ... looks like Destiny is trying to ride both MMO and FPS and satisfying neither. Pick one for in-house development (MMO for Bungie) and either shelve or outsource the other (PVP to 343).
As is, the game is just unpleasant to play.

It's a failed experiment that produced a mutant instead of a hybrid

Jack of all trades. Master of none.

Edited by Acehunter25: 12/2/2015 7:21:26 PMPretty spot on how individually both halves are pretty weak sauce by themselves Pvp is not balanced and is a total lag/cheat fest And MMO side is barren, short, and aimless But it's the first of its kind to combine, which is why it's doing so well right now Give it another year or two when some company pulls a COD on it, takes its idea and improves it, and makes it the game it should have been and everyone will look back and wonder why they ever played destiny lol

As a fps it's better than most on the market right now just in terms of gunplay. At least in my opinion it is.

It's no where perfect in terms of a complete package. The mmo state of destiny is great in terms of raids and even communities like this app where we can all talk and communicate however this level of bring people together in game just doesn't happen it's hard to connect people through just gameplay. As and fps I think they are doing great they are patching and making a better pvp experience. And with this next patch coming in December I feel it will be the closest yet to perfectly balanced (I'm sure they will still need some more tweeting but very very close). And as an Rpg it's got a very light touch each subclass has a different feel but it suffers in this aspect. A game like borderlands has a much deeper Rpg aspect but I wouldn't even say borderlands is a great Rpg. Do in total I believe destiny has to improve on all fronts that's clear but the game we have now is already a unique and fun experience that all other games lack it's absolutely worth play to me and staying just to see how far this will go.

4 RepliesEh. Id say because of the ground breaking gun mechanics (they obviously did something right if other AAA devs are taking their lead gun mechanic designer) they succeeded as an fps However pretty much no social function or large enough world capability (pretty sure all the planets only hold 16 people total) means they pretty much flopped as an mmo. As an rpg they did pretty mediocre giving each class different skills as far as other rpgs go. They could have added much more depth as far as kills go

1 ReplyThis actually really touches on one of Destiny's biggest issues. Its a hybrid game that fails to get any of the pieces right. As an FPS fails at PvP with its lack of ranking and dedicated servers. It fails at balance because they completely ignore fundamentals of MP. As an MMO it fails because of its lack of content and lack luster rewards. Your absolutely right with the mindset of seperation. This games pve and PvP need to be separated so they can tackle specific issues holding the game back.

As an mmo it kinda failed. As a FPS? Its beautiful. The gunplay is truly amazing but the flaws within the game hide how good it is at times.

2 RepliesPlease not mmo to bungie. They don't even have chat options.

2 RepliesIt's the FIRST of it's kind. Cut them some slack. It's going to get better. It's Bungie and Activision. There's no way Destiny is gonna fail..despite some people and their valiant claims and efforts. I remember when people said COD was gonna die after Black Ops..it's still alive today.

Honestly, IDC what they do I just want them to pick a side and run with it.

Rumor has it the halo 5 PvP sucks outside of the bonus of dedicated servers.
-
But destiny isnt an mmo

1 Reply343 you kidding the absolute 2 worst halos

The gun play is great. Art is great. Everything else sucks.
