Struggling to Understand...

Let me start by saying that I'm a 32-year old family man and American Government teacher. I've been a gamer since the inception of console games. I've owned and extensively played OG Nintendo, Super Nintendo, N64, GameCube, Xbox, Xbox 360, abs Xbox One. Gaming is my hobby as well as a way to connect with my dad (he's 60 tomorrow, with 3 290+ Destiny characters, he's The Old Guy on Xbox Live) and my own 3 kids (Disney Infinity lol). I've played the hell out of Bungie games since the days of Halo CE on the old school Xbox, that's part of the reason I was so excited for Destiny. I love Destiny, it's one of the best games I've ever had the privilege to play. That said, I am also a realist and can freely admit that Destiny has flaws. If we're being honest, one of the biggest problems Destiny has is the online community. The Destiny community has three major problems. It's not the "Desticles", it's not the haters, it's not even the "I'm quitting, AMA" people (though I'll address then specifically). The problems in the community come down to 3 key elements: 1) People apparently struggle to recognize the difference between fact and opinion.
There are countless threads in the forums attempting to represent the opinions of the OP as incontrovertible fact that cannot be questioned. Both sides are guilty of this. We all have the shared experience of playing this game way too much, yet we can all come away from it with drastically opinions about the game itself. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Your opinion is not arbitrarily better or more important than anyone else's, regardless of light levels, their K/D, your K/D, what class they main, etc. If everyone would stop trashing other people over petty differences in opinions, the forums would be infinitely better. Which leads me to my next point...
2) Sitting behind a keyboard doesn't give you the right to say whatever you want.
I'm normally very pro-free speech, and I recognize that everyone has that right. But, as I tell my students, rights have responsibilities, and respecting other's rights to free speech is part of that. The way people interact with one another on these forums is obnoxious at best. There is a fundamental lack of respect that I guarantee would not exist in face-to-face interactions. I get that many of you are athletes, weight lifters, fighters, etc. but not even the most badass MMA fighter goes around talking trash to everyone he meets. Face it, you're not hard. Stop acting like it.
3) IT'S. NOT. ALWAYS. ABOUT. YOU.
It seems like the majority of the people on these forums are taking personal offense towards Bungie for the slightest of issues, as though Bungie has personally slapped you with a glove and challenged you to a duel. Get over it, you're acting like a child. Bungie isn't out to get you, they're not trying to sabotage their own game, and they are trying to make things better as they go. That part is fact. Because you don't agree with the changes they make as they try to better their game doesn't mean you've been insulted. And what the hell is with all the "I'm quitting" posts? Who cares? What, you can't choose to quit a game without getting the approval of thousands of strangers who couldn't care less for you as an individual? I'm telling you, that's narcissism at its finest.
I don't know what the solution is, but I know that we all have the potential to make things better through our daily interactions on this site. I welcome all your feedback on this subject and I'll respond when I can. I recognize that I'm inviting trolls to respond, just by the subject matter. Bring them on, they'll just demonstrate my points for me! Stay strong Guardian, thanks for reading.
Moderator edit: This thread has been moved to the #Community forum.
