The underlying issue with time released exotics people are overlooking

So many people are upset about the uneven amount of exotics being rereleased in December, however, no one seems to be talking about the main issue with these exotic releases. This issue being the fact that the new year 2 exotics should have already been added in the first place. People are getting real upset about how the hunters and titans are getting new armor and warlocks are only receiving new versions of year 1 armor. This anger overlooks the fact that the year 2 armor should have already been fully accessible since TTK launched. When Bungie announced TTK they announced that TTK would give us a whole new game worth of content and gear. However, if we look at how many non-exclusive exotics were in year 1 at launch from my knowledge there were 18 weapons and 18 armor pieces. Now if we look at the non-exclusive exotics in year 2, including swords and black spindle, there are 15 weapons and 9 armor pieces in the game, however there are 18 armor pieces in the database. This means there were a total of 12 less exotics in the game. We were, in fact, given less than they promised in terms of exotics. Now, some of you will be like "they didn't necessarily say that the new exotics would be there from the beginning" and you have a point and I will get to that in a bit so hold on. So I can *begrudgingly* rule out those 3 missing heavy exotics due to them adding 3 exotic swords in their place, which makes the missing exotic count go to 9. And then if we factor in the 2 exotics that were obtainable even though they were not supposed to be (the new titan and hunter chest pieces being added in December) that makes the count go to 7 (I see what you did Bungie). This means we are missing 7 whole exotics that we know exist but haven't been added. These 9(7) exotics should have been added in with the others when TTK launched but they were not. And to make it worse Bungie is doing a timed release of these exotics without giving a date as to when they will be released. And this is where I get to that point from before, the whole "not necessarily" deal. So this dateless timed release plan makes me believe that the missing exotics will not be added until the next dlc that comes out (which in my book doesn't count as being a part of the TTK dlc. And the fact that they are only adding in the 2 bugged ones in December is what really reinforces this thought since they are not adding any more than that in the update. And this is what really upsets me. The fact that they promised a whole new game worth of gear and yet they only added 3/4 of what they promised. I am fine with Bungie periodically adding new exotics and updated old exotics, but they should have at leased added the exotics that they promised from the beginning. So now I present what should have happened and what should happen in the future. If Bungie promises a new game worth of gear they should add a new game worth of gear. And then if they want to add more gear periodically they should actually use new gear and not the gear they promised from the beginning. The way they are adding back in the old exotics is fine since it makes players have to explore the new exotics first which is actually a pretty good idea to make sure players actually experience the game that the developers made. TL:DR= Bungie should have added the new exotics from the beginning instead of giving unclear plans to add them in the future Sorry for the long post but I tried to simplify it as much as I could. If there is a point that you think I missed go ahead and comment about it and I will see if I can add it if I get time. And to be clear I think they delivered on the amount of other content that they added.

  • I don't care. Exotics are fuel for infusing. That's all.

  • You do realize that those exotic counts were at the end of year one. Year two has only just started.

    • Wholeheartedly agree. TTK really got my hopes up with the exotic Warlock boots. It's a shame that I'm probably going to have to wait another 3-6 months before receiving them. My Warlock looks exactly the same as he did in Year 1. The only reason they aren't giving us the ability to obtain them is because they want to keep people interested and have something to look forward to. And this is the first time that I honestly feel cheated by Bungie. Aside all the other crap this is what hurts the most. I have over 1300 hours into this game, and judging by the way this expansion has turned out in the aspect of "receiving what was told we could obtain", I won't be back so eagerly. Good post, bump.

      • What makes you think they won't add in all the exotics before the next dlc? How do u know when the next dlc will come out? What's wrong with adding in exotics later into the dlc to give it longevity? Plenty of games do this it's called "events". Trials of Osiris and Iron Banner is a good example cuz u can only get those specific weapons and armors during that time period. I don't see what's the problem, it's Bungies game and they decide what goes. As for these "promises", where exactly did they promise, what you are referring too?
