To be honest, this is one of the best gaming communities out there. One of the worst when it comes to people who quit playing the game (or still play but are bitter) still coming to the forums.
Sadly I feel like this is not representative of the community. Weird to say this, but Reddit is more mellow than the forums. /r/destinythegame and /r/cricibleplaybook are actually quite mellow. A lot of the podcasts out there are representative of the community, Guardian Radio, Crucible Radio, PlanetDestiny, Destiny Reset, Destiny The Show, Aim Assist Gaming, etc. The streamers, Gothalian, Broman, Kraftyy, Ms5000Watts, Datto, Poshy, KJHovey, and so many more can get salty about the game. But for the most part are very humble and appreciative. I feel comfortable saying these mediums are much more representative of the community.
Most of us Destiny players know there's hiccups in this game. Content lull needs to be resolved. Communication needs to happen a bit differently. When you're clocked over 250 hours and then rail on forums when you quit because a new game came out, you need to get a life.
Honestly OP, don't let b.net think poorly of this community.

Beat me to the punch eh? Well, I could certainly get used to that.

I feel you. I know the whole community can't be bad. I just need to find the good parts away from all the negativity. Thanks!
