Because you're comparing this game community to the Halo game community. The game shapes the community. Not the other way around. Halo (which I was never very in to) was a beloved game with passionate fans. Thus the community flourished. Destiny (which I have been a fan of up until recently) is mired in controversy and addiction. Thus you get a toxic community.
