I would like to preface this with the fact that I've been gaming for a long time and I've been heavily involved with various communities over the years. I have been a fan of Bungie for as long as I can remember. I ran a community called Arm The Flag during the Halo days and we got our Machinima work on the front page all the time. I was even interviewed by the community director, Urk at the time. I've seen issues left and right within games, their creators, and the communities around them and I know there is a mature/respectful way to handle them.
I am late to the Destiny game as I just recently finally purchased an Xbox One and I was eager to jump into the Destiny community because I remember all of the fun I had back in the Halo days....well that feeling was soon squashed for me. Upon checking out the Bungie Forums and jumping on r/DestinyTheGame on Reddit for the first time a few days ago I was met with all of of this hatred and resentment towards Bungie for just about every little aspect of the game. Where was this beloved community that I remembered from back in the day? It was nowhere to be seen.
Now I've seen the posts and arguments...I realize that veteran players feel shafted for the Y1 stuff taken away then brought back...that's some BS. I see the arguments against the RAF program...which I think is an excellent program and the people complaining about it come off as nitpicking self entitled children, but that's just my opinion. Regardless of your opinion instead of dumping toxic waste posts everywhere in the community about how Destiny is shit and you hate Bungie, and you think it should be this way....maybe you should look at a more constructive way.
Where is the mature community that enjoys the game? Where is the mature community that instead of whining like little girls they start a meaningful discussion and possibly come up with something to present Bungie that voices the thoughts of the community as a whole? Turning this sub and the Bungie forums into a cesspool of negativity, complaints, and a whine fest will not help your cause.
I love you guys...and I've loved my time playing Destiny so far, but I hate reading through all these crap threads day after day.

4 RepliesToxicity comes from some folks who have an emotional baggage from the old Bungie that took us into a universe we loved, at a time in our life when we were discovering video games and lol, life. For me, it's seeing what goes on behind closed doors that turned me off. The disappearance of various iconic Bungie staff, the way it was done, has left me with a bitter taste in my mouth. The way the old community became irrelevant in the new b.net structure didn't help either. I realize it's silly, but I feel a tiny grudge and although I try to stay positive, I may have crossed the line a couple of times. Don't have many complaints on the actual game because it's not my kind of game (loot being the focus) other than pre release hints for an epic story and characters accompanying us in our journey to become legend were simply not there. Never took the game seriously. Butt flaps matching my helmet doesn't really matter, getting extra fancy weapons having to do more chores I did when I was a kid does not appeal to me. So I play by my rules which are to enjoy whatever I'm doing, stop when it gets boring. I still love the art, the weapon handling, the music (sigh). Most newcomers to Bungie are focused on its important aspects of loot, acquiring all the best weapons, getting stuff, winning, acquiring EVERYTHING. These people put hundreds if not thousands of hours into the game and their investment makes it worth their while to complain about this and that. Bottom line, Bungie is a big outfit now, pressure to get revenues in seems to have won against artistic direction or creation. It's all good, different things for different folks. Game still has the best weapon handling and most beautiful art out there but definitely lost its soul some time ago.
