Absolute worst pvp experience I've ever encountered in any game.

Let me just say i started the game a week ago, leveled from 1 to 40 and currently have a light level of 249. I've played plenty of shooters including CoD, BF, CSGO, killing floor, battlefront, and others. I've also played just about any mmo pvp out there, wow, war, swtor, aion, rift. Now I just spent a solid 15 hours in the crucible trying to get better, trying to do the daily and the bounties really just to get better gear. I've must have played 40 matches and lost every single one! and what i see is the same thing, some dude with a hand cannon with a 5 kill streak one shooting everyone. Or my favorite getting OHKO by a melee when mine takes like 3 hits.... Or (and i swear this happened 10 min before i posted this) blowing my stormtrance and attacking this one guy that apparently had enough time to switch to his sniper rifle, and OHKO me in trance! completely wasted trance. And every single match I'm about mid way on the killed, around top 3rd or 4th. I don't think i'm bad but seriously whats the deal! is pvp suppose to be this unforgiving to new comers? am I not suppose to go into the crucible or is there something for new people? I see people say gear doesn't matter but from what i've experienced thats a bold face lie! How do I progress if I need a certain reputation / legendary marks for gear, and every item i've won at the end of these matches have been considerably weaker than what i currently have? I am blowing off steam here, but i'm also being serious. losing match after match after match for hours on end gets very discouraging. And I would love to get better, I'd love to actually enjoy pvp.

    • 0.76 isn't a bad KD for your first week. Find a good Pulse Rifle, tune your subclass, learn the maps, and practice sniping. You'll break 1.0 in no time. If my pvp-casual ass can sit around 1.2, anyone can.

    • Regular pvp is not level advantage enabled, so that means neither your light nor your weapons light has any bearing on damage delt or taken, everything is based on core stats. In vanilla you could OHK with melee, but now you can't do that. The sliding shotgun maneuver, year one at the very beginning, used to be a sliding melee maneuver. Destiny PvP in my opinion isn't as good as games like Battlefield. I seem to die faster. It's something you just have to get used to. After a while, you'll get used to how the game works and adapt your own fighting style.

      • Destiny is not a PvP based game go do the story and the raid, get the gear and then talk to us. That's what we all did. That's the fun of it.

      • There are a lot of variables in destiny pvp. It's not like a typical shooter where you can get good within a week simply by learning the maps.

        • Maybe it's just a bad day. Everyone has them, not to mention you've not played as long as everyone else. Just keep at it, I have good and bad days too.

          • More practice, you can cook an egg in a couple of minutes, but your "opposition" have been playing this for over a year including myself. If Anyone could master PVP in one day I'd be worried, learn , adapt and keep going. I only started enjoying PVP in the last 3 months and I'm still not anywhere near where I want to be, but I am improving quickly

          • Just keep playing. I used to be waaaaay worse than i am now. Even now im below average. You gotta learn the maps. Thats the most important part. After that everything will fall into place. Another good tip: DONT RUN ALL THE TIME. Whenever i start doing shitty and get frustrated i tend to run as soon as i spawn. Dont do that. Play reserved. Stay back a bit.

            • Half of what you said should be impossible unless you are playing IB or trials which you should stay away from until 300+ light.

            • That's one of the reasons I don't do PvP anymore due to the unbalancing. I jump on the iron banner, but I didn't enjoy the recent one, I liked PvP when we had the old moon map with tanks and pikes and turrets now that was fun.

                • I responded this advice for another guy asking for advice in the crucible: If you are primarily a PVE person than learning how to be successful in crucible will take time. Here is my advice: 1. Play More PVP - It's simple. Practice makes perfect and if you want to get better, you have to play more than just the daily. Pick a playlist and play 5 matches without stopping every day. Then play your PVE. 2. Learn the maps - I know it goes without saying, but knowing sight lines and high traffic zones are two of the most important things to know about PVP in any game. 3. Understand Crucible - Destiny's multiplier is different than any other PVP because of Supers, similar to how killstreaks in CoD changed how people played it. You should always have a high intellect build so that you get your super more during matches. You would also want to tandem that with perks on your armor and weapons that decrease your super recharge time. You can adjust your build over time to see what works best for you. 4. Know the Meta (metagame) - The meta (highest level of strategy) of a multiplayer changes with every patch. In Destiny, the first meta was auto rifles and fusion rifles. After patch, it became shotguns and Hand Cannons. With patch 2.0 and the launch of the taken king, Pulse Rifles are king and shotguns have been knocked down a bit. Bad JuJu is a great pulse rifle but there are others that may be better for you, depending on how you play. Find one you like and kill all the things. The vendor weapon Hawksaw is currently a favorite as well as Red Death and Nirwen's Mercy (Iron Banner). 5. Be Patient - As Kenny Rodgers once wisely sang, "You gotta know when to hold em, know when to fold em." Pick your battles and take on opponents 1v1 and try not to get yourself into situations where you are outnumbered. If you find yourself dying around zone B a lot in control, stay away from B. 6. Learn to Snipe - Shotguns are great, but they are easy and they don't teach you anything. Using a sniper forces you to be patient and strategic. There's a reason all the best players use snipe over shotgun (because it's higher skill weapon). 7. Play with Friends - People who play in groups are more successful than individuals because of the communication you get. Not better....just more successful. 8. Get that Heavy Ammo - Self explanatory, getting the heavy ammo should always be a priority over things like control points. That's all for now. :)

Lol this game and all you mentioned have about the same learning curve including destiny, which is none, you can face people that play pvp maybe for the first time or "pros". That doesnt makes the game bad its just casual friendly and the reason bf,cod had so much success from then till now. The same counts for destiny but if you can aim you can do it in every game it may take its time because it feels a bit different. Best example for me was halo 5 in the first week i though damn how bad have i become in the last years when i didnt play halo? But guess what i get better and better ;) i wonder what you would do if you play halo xD

                  • I hear your pain! For a while I steered clear of the crucible as I was lucky to get a kill and kept getting my a** handed to me in every match. So went on the grind, story, missions & especially patrols to get my rep up (especially with Banshee 44 do the weapon tests for him) finally got my first legendary pulse rifle and then on my return to the crucible I started to get some payback. I am only an average player but have been getting into the top 3 here and there. So just stick with it, you just need decent gear.

                  • You have a lot to learn. I didn't play pvp at all for the first 1000 hours in destiny. Then I hopped in one day and got rekt. Over and over. There was a learning curve. I kept playing, practicing and eventually I finally evened out my k/d. Then started building my characters gear specifically around pvp. Now I'm sitting somewhere around a 1.3 k/d and dont plan on starting a new character to reset my k/d like most people who care about that do. My k/d shows my true progression. From bad to alright. This isnt a walk in the park. You need practice and dedication to become legend in the Crucible. Chin up Guardian.
