Absolute worst pvp experience I've ever encountered in any game.

Let me just say i started the game a week ago, leveled from 1 to 40 and currently have a light level of 249. I've played plenty of shooters including CoD, BF, CSGO, killing floor, battlefront, and others. I've also played just about any mmo pvp out there, wow, war, swtor, aion, rift. Now I just spent a solid 15 hours in the crucible trying to get better, trying to do the daily and the bounties really just to get better gear. I've must have played 40 matches and lost every single one! and what i see is the same thing, some dude with a hand cannon with a 5 kill streak one shooting everyone. Or my favorite getting OHKO by a melee when mine takes like 3 hits.... Or (and i swear this happened 10 min before i posted this) blowing my stormtrance and attacking this one guy that apparently had enough time to switch to his sniper rifle, and OHKO me in trance! completely wasted trance. And every single match I'm about mid way on the killed, around top 3rd or 4th. I don't think i'm bad but seriously whats the deal! is pvp suppose to be this unforgiving to new comers? am I not suppose to go into the crucible or is there something for new people? I see people say gear doesn't matter but from what i've experienced thats a bold face lie! How do I progress if I need a certain reputation / legendary marks for gear, and every item i've won at the end of these matches have been considerably weaker than what i currently have? I am blowing off steam here, but i'm also being serious. losing match after match after match for hours on end gets very discouraging. And I would love to get better, I'd love to actually enjoy pvp.

  • Hands down worst pvp in a major title of all time. Don't be surprised.

  • Damn, you only have 2 wins, ouch. PvP in this game just sucks man. I really don't see how people find it enjoyable.

  • You're on the right track with weapon selection except maybe swap out your sidearm for a sniper or shotgun depending on the map. Also maybe try a different pulse rifle, I haven't seen many use the Apple of Discord in PvP but that doesn't necessarily make it bad, just maybe slightly weaker than others.

    • Were you playing iron banner or regular crucible? Regular crucible for the daily I know, but besides that?

    • It's totally different then cod. You have to get use to melee, grenades and supers. And you will find out what weapons are better to use. You will catch on it does take a little bit. It took me awhile just to be OK at pvp. (BTW pulse rifles are king right now) My nephews are hard core cod players with high rankings and kd, when they come over they play destiny pvp and there like wtf is this?? Supers, rockets and shotguns that don't shoot far at all compared to cod.

    • TBH I believe that it's your light level as you are competing against people with 50 light above you

      • Knowing the maps is the majority of the battle. Players always use combinations of routes and if you can control a few of those you can easily rack up a good kill streak. As for supers, you need to learn the pros and cons of each of them. Storm trance isn't as effective on large open maps and it makes you a glowing blue hovering target waiting to be headshot. It just takes repetitions. You'll be fine.

Those things you mentioned about the handcannon and melees don't actually happen unless you're lagging or they are. Also, this game's PvP is very different from those you listed, so you'll have to get used to it. You need to learn how to counter certain things through experience and learn what works and what doesn't. Your weapons don't seem bad, but you don't have an exotic armor which can be useful. Also your subclass isnt fully leveled yet either. I would use Arc Bolt, Focused Burst, Ionic Blink, Transcendence, and maximize the armor stat.

      • My first month playing saw me with a 0.3 K/D. Once I learned the maps and became comfortable with weapons and such, I was able to work that up to just about an overall 1.0

      • TBH it took me a while to find a set up and strategy that worked for me. I personally run scout rifle with a close range scope. Shotty and LMG with good stability. Stick to the outside of the map and avoid kill zones. (have seen so many people continuously run through a door and die only to do it again...and again ..and again. Use common sense and most of the time you will do good. but the main thing is, have fun and dont care about ktd or losing/wining. If you have fun the pvp will not be as bad.

Looked at your stats. You're better than the average beginner and definitely better than me. Map control is insanely important. I know you're frustrated but it's mostly because you're going up against people who have the best weapons and have used them extensively. Everyone here is giving good advice about guns to use. But there are plenty of blue guns that can compete. Get used to the radar and know when and where to run if you can't win a gunfight. Of and try to lead with a grenade!
light level doesn't matter in regular crucible, use whatever guns work the best for you
• If you're playing it like CoD, that won't work out well for you. Slow your pace down in this game. Don't rush the enemies as your default. Just try to learn the maps, the sniping lanes, and you'll have it figured out in no time.

      • You may have played plenty of shooters, but if you haven't played halo, you haven't played a good one. Combat Evolved was the best shooter of all time when it came out. Some people will argue that not even current shooters are better...

        • Play around with different weapons, try out different sets until you find one that works. Getting to level 40 is one thing. Getting your light up is second, this matters most in trials or iron banner. Third is leveling up your subclass. Armor, recovery and agility do count. If you only started playing a week ago it's unlikely you have any subclasses leveled up. Get the perks, they're important.

        • Destiny isn't like CoD where you can just jump on and do well... it's different then any other game out there and you need to learn the nuances of how to move, shoot, evade, and use your super properly. You got domed out of your stormtrance by a sniper? news flash you just got owned, there's no way you could just equip a sniper and do that to someone else because stuff like that takes practice and a lot of it. Just play crucible a lot and you will start to understand the way things work and how to get better.. trust me I used to suck a long time ago when I first started as well

          • Basically it's a learning curve... switch to voidwalker (easier to learn with the subclass) do the daily things that give you crucible marks to save those, and play the story through to the quest taken war venus and you get a 1000 yard stare. Learn to snipe with that and the game is easy mode. Again with the learning curve that's going to take a while but you should try to use it off and on and you should pick it up easily. A hawksaw/bad juju/red death, 1000 yard stare, and really whatever you want for a heavy is the meta right now, so just go with the game and try things out.

Try something new! Destinys pvp is not like other fps. Focus on survivability while using some of the more interesting weapon/skill perks to your advantage. If you're careful, encounters don't fall under 'shoot first and win'. Know your limits, how much damage you can take before retreating, and practice reading your radar. While it can be frustrating, destiny offers some of the most robust pvp around, IMHO, once you find your geoove
