Xbox one loud pop noise.

So I was watching Netflix yesterday and all of the sudden my Xbox one made a loud a pop noise and shut off. I unplugged it and waited plugging it back in the power brick had an orange light but once I plugged that into the back of the one the light went out. Tried it multiple times in different outlets. Won't turn on. All I could find on the subject is that a capacitor likely blew inside. Does that seem right to anyone? I have warranty. Only three months old. Could be dust build up? Had construction going on in my apartment. Likely cause? No need for a console war just want some ideas as to what happened. Going to GameStop today to claim my warranty. My 360 lasted years without a problem. Maybe I got a lemon? Also had a game disc inside. Is that likely lost forever? Any ideas would appreciated. Pain in the ass to re download everything.

  • Is your Xbox one power supply unit plugged into a wall surge protector? If so plug it straight into the wall the brick is the surge protector. And when you have two surge protectors connected it like have waves go back and forth. That's why yours went out.

  • My Xbox or power brick just made a load pop. But I noticed a lot of people said get a surge protector and mine was plugged into one. I feel like mine popped from over heating it's been running for a very long time. But I'm guessing my power brick is what popped.

    • Happened to me last year, you need a new power adapter. I went through the entire process of having them send me a new xbox only to find out it was that little bastard power brick.

      • That sucks! You should get a replacement at gamestop or something, they can also get the disk out for you.

That pop nose was a capacitor blowing up. Rare that that happens but it can. I bet if you check the power supply you will find it easily as it leaves quite a mess behind. I just hope a surge didn't get passed the power supply and wreak your counsel. Your disk should be fine by the way, just not sure how you get it out as I got a ps4. I'm sure there has to be a way to manually eject the disk. Surge protectors are better than nothing but over rated, if you really want to protect equipment a line conditioner would be better or a UPS is the best way to protect from surges. But here is the thing, if you had some kind of surge hit you're equipment it would have hit everything like you're TV. My guess is a faulty capacitor in your system just blew up.

          • Sounds like it was a capacitor. But you have you power brick on carpet that could cause it to over heat and blow. I would ask GameStop to swap it out or just buy a used/new one.

            • It sounds like you had an electrical power surge that possible fried parts of your Xbox. I would suggest getting a power supply that you can hook to an outlet that has a surge protecter, I have one for all my electronics and never had a problem. Plus it's just being safe too. I wouldn't want to buy another Xbox.

            • The power brick must of blown. That is why the brick is not built in. If it was built in and it blew a fuse, the whole console would of been damaged beyond repair. Try to get a friend's power brick and use to it to power the xbox.

            • Had my console poop out earlier this year, had a faulty HDMI port, Microsoft said they'd replace it and 2 weeks later I got a new xbone, sadly it only had 380gb instead of 500 but eh, whatever

              • Sounds like it blew a safety fuse but how you exceeded 110V in a normal outlet idk, would consult others living in your building to see if they had similar problems. Otherwise it could of overheated to the point that the motherboard or cpu fried, several options. Keep the next one well ventilated and use a different outlet until you get the problem fully diagnosed. Oh and also this is your opportunity to buy a PlayStation.

                  • There IS a way too get your disk out. https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/system/manually-eject-disc Has a video walkthrough. Posted by Microsoft, so I'd imagine it wouldn't void any warranty, but i do not know for sure

                  • When my Xbox was looking like it was going to need to be warrantied the MS Rep said that they would return the disc that was in it. Just make sure they know and be sure to keep a copy of the chat transcript to make sure you have proof that they said they would return/replace it.

                  • Get replacement. DO NOT take it apart to get your game out. Talk to a rep n find out how to go about that. I read somewhere that the ps4 has a screw that will manually eject the disk. Maybe xbone does to. Good luck

                      • Something inside was defective. It happens. Don't open it yourself though, make good on that warranty first, and tell them the game is inside.
