The Green Zone Part V(B):M*A*S*H
Greenspear PDS Pacified District "Green Zone", 0230H.
The refugee housing areas that now took up the majority of the Old North District were clean, quiet, and secure, defended from both the ground and the air.
But not this time.
A pair of explosions rocked the complex, and cultists streamed inside, doing battle with Greenspear MPs as they tried to breach the refugee barracks. The fighting lit up the city, and lasted for hours. The breaches were discovered to have been caused by emergence tunnels that cultists had dug under the walls and climbed through, working little by little for weeks.
By the end of the fighting, 10 Greenspear operators were dead, and 40 wounded. Of the civilians, none had died, but over 300 had suffered serious wounds that could become killers without treatment. To make matters worse, the cultists' weapons had contained some form of chemical weapon that exposed hundreds more, filling their lungs with viscous liquid. The Greenspear Medical Corps was swamped with intensive surgery cases, and were running low on supplies. There was only one option.
A flight of SH-57 Colossus transport helicopters, loaded with troops and supply pallets, sortied out from the Green Zone. Their target was an abandoned hospital in the center of the city's east district. If they were lucky, the Greenspear units could find whatever supplies looters, cultists, and advancing Imperial forces had left behind; just enough to save the wounded back at base.
The vehicles were all marked with large Red Cross symbols to denote their medical nature, and the soldiers within were encased in bright green biohazard gear. Hopefully, that would be enough to protect them.
The chopper flight's rumbling passage echoed through the night as they rose from the Green Zone and sped toward their destination.

Edited by Trashcan Jesus: 11/22/2015 4:44:55 PMAlmost as soon as the aircraft move into Venom Incorporated airspace, their lock-on systems go haywire as SAM systems immediately begin targeting them. Moments later, two F-35 JSFs are seen moving into combat formation behind the helicopter, an easy target for them. A transmission is broadcast to the trespassers. GREENSPEAR AIRCRAFT, YOU ARE IN RESTRICTED AIRSPACE. ALTER COURSE TO EXIT CORDON OR YOU WILL BE ENGAGED AS HOSTILE.
-
The helicopters do not change course, but a radio signal is returned. Attention, pursing craft. We are a medical flight, responding to civilian bio-warfare casualties. This is the only air corridor we've got, and if we don't go this way, a lot of people are going to die. Feel free to escort, we won't stop you. Our command advises that you should double your guard and keep HAZMAT on standby. If these cultists hit us, they might hit you.
-
A transmission returns. Medical personnel are not advised to move contaminated assets out of their occupied section. Risk of spreading the infection is too great to enter other territory. Send a list of required medical supplies and change course back your quarantine facility, and they well be provided. Continuing further will result in the use of lethal force.
-
The choppers turn out of the Venom cordon, toward the east. Negative, Venom. We do not bear contaminated assets, although we appreciate the offer. We are on a supply run. Moving out of your airspace now.
-
The craft continue to follow until the helicopter is outside of the city, and eventually break off.
-
The choppers land at the hospital, directly in the city center, and begin loading supplies onboard.
-
A contingent is diverted to the area and Imperials are notified of the transgression. Within a few minutes, three fully armed Abrams tanks roll up to the plaza, along with some 50 heavy support gunners and another 20 assault troopers in three MRAPs. The tanks immediately swing their 120mm guns to bear at the helicopter, and their remote turrets swing to face the men moving supplies. The support gunners approach, weapons drawn, as the assault units move in from behind. A leading soldier shouts to them, his rifle drawn. EVERYONE ON THE GROUND NOW!
-
Edited by Ex PI: 11/22/2015 7:54:34 PM
It's actually a flight of 5 choppers. They're proprietary upgrades of the Chinook.
The hazmat-equipped Greenspear soldiers continue loading the supplies, and once finished, raise their hands.
-
I SAID ON THE GROUND. The soldiers move in closer, weapons still aimed at the Greenspear operators. You're in direct violation of sovereign and established territory. There was no agreement made as to any sort of landing on Imperial land or travel in Imperial airspace. You boys are looting supplies needed for Imperial civvies and as such you are to be taken in as looters.
-
The Greenspear operatives raise their weapons. I'd have to countermand that, friend. This sector is unoccupied, and these supplies are going to civilians under our protection. So run along on home, now, before someone does something foolish. To emphasize their point, the helicopters' crew chiefs full-load the M60s mounted along the aircrafts' sides. The rotors of each Colossus spool up, and the heavy aircraft lumber into the air.
-
One of the Abrams immediately fires its main gun into the side of the helicopter, a sabot round. It rips through the helicopter with easy, killing most in the cargo area due to its immense heat. The soldiers begin to attack any operatives on the ground to prevent the supplies from being taken out of the city.
The center of the city is THE MOST HEAVILY OCCUPIED.
-
Edited by Ex PI: 11/22/2015 8:20:21 PM
He's talking about the hospital.
The Greenspear operators open up on the Venom forces, with the heavy rounds of their HCAR rifles ripping into their foes. Another group surrounds the tank that fired on the helicopter and rip off its turret using their exoskeletons. The other helicopters in the flight use the distraction of the ground battle to reach the Green Zone, and the supplies are quickly distributed to the injured on the ground. The Greenspear operators retreat into the hospital, preparing for a siege.
-
The men attempting to board the Abrams are shredded by the Remote turret systems, their skeletal exosuits hardly protecting their bodies from tungsten carbide .50 caliber rounds. The HCARs do little to the heavy gunners, who return fire with their M240B and MG3 machine guns. Assault troopers remain engage those behind, their more powerful exosuits giving them an advantage. As the surviving Greenspear men hole up in the hospital, the tanks open up with their main guns, firing high-explosive mushroom cap shells, obliterating anything in their way. As the helos attempt to take off, a barrage of 25mm shells rips into them from two inbound F-35 strike fighters.
-
The Greenspear operators continue to fight, and one of the stricken helicopters lands on the tanks, crushing them. The few that remain utilize inbuilt Trophy systems to defend themselves from the next pass by the Venom aircraft. Back at the DMZ... Greenspear forces go on high alert. Defensive systems, from targeted EM beam weapons to microwave turrets, are activated.
-
The helicopter, while armored, has nowhere near the force to even crush the Venom exosuits, and the tanks simply shift positions out of the wreckage. At the DMZ, no attempts to attack are made whatsoever. The trophy systems do jam the missile systems of the F-35s, but their cannons are still fully functional, and they shred the escaping helicopters, the high velocity explosive shells ripping their rotor assemblies to pieces.
-
Edited by Ex PI: 11/22/2015 8:54:10 PMThe Greenspear forces, considerably outnumbered, take further steps. Mercy Actual to Command: We are under attack, repeat, we are under attack. Requesting Red Arrow. Request received, Mercy Actual. Rerouting you to Grizzly Lead. The Greenspear forces enter encrypted radio, making their previously open channels emit naught but static. A lucky shot with a Carl Gustav shreds one of the Abrams, and the remaining 2 Colossi on station crash-land in a circular pattern around the hospital, forming, along with the previous wreckage, an effective fortification around the building. At this rate, the battle could last a while.
New post or continue here? It's up to you.
Edited by Trashcan Jesus: 11/22/2015 10:27:54 PMThe downed Abrams, while immobile with a dead crew member, is still capable of firing its cannon, and continues to do so. Venom comms channels had been totally encrypted from the beginning, leaving Greenspear guessing as to what their plan was, particularly when the Venom Incorporated forces started pulling back a bit. Before it dawned on them, three one-ton 406mm high explosive shells slammed into their position, obliterating the supporting structure of the hospital. At sea, one of the battleships had been fed the coordinates of the building, and promptly fired her forward turret. Her second turret let loose another volley, the shells slamming into the building less than a minute after the first, compromising what little structural integrity there had been.
-
The Greenspear forces, dragging their wounded and dead, pull back as the hospital collapses directly on their foes, moving into the subterranean maintenance section of the building. Grizzly Lead, spin up. A roaring sound builds in the distance.
-
Venom pulled back for a reason. They're not in the building and they backed out of the way to let it come down.
Calls are made to the Imperium and to all allied with Venom Inc, for this was no longer a matter of containment. The current forces in the area pull out, and head to rendezvous at a fortified Imperial base.
-
The Greenspear forces retreat via the sewers until they reach their home base.
Gotta take a break for a while. Sorry.
