So, where does the AI chip go on a Spartan's head?

Does it actually go in the skull, or only the helmet? I remember it being in the head, like Captain Keyes. However, when you hear MC take out the chip it seems pretty easy and sounds like it was only in the helmet.

 • I think of it like the matrix. A slot at the back of your head or neck (just a hell of allot smaller). The suit is designed to link up to that slot for interface. An AI chip plugs into the spot of the suit where that interface is located. It plugs in and has direct access to the nerve cells. Which to correct there are nerves in the brain. The entire THING is nothing but nerves. Theres just no Nerve endings which creates the feeling of pain.

 • It seems as if it goes into the back of the helmet, however in the novels it is suposed to be within the body.
it is a machine implanted into the back of the head, you insert the chip and you're good to go.

 •
Posted by: Lord Snakie
Posted by: DTA MoonDawg Well, in the novels, the Chief did say the first time he plugged Cortana in, it was very, very uncomfortable. It was an extreme cold flooding his mind. Now did it actually hurt? I have no clue. Being a Spartan with all of the augmentation enhancements, he might have shrugged it off.
Methinks that's just the transition, not actual pain. No nerves in the brain and whatnot. But if you had a link plugged directly into your cerebellum? I think you need that, and need not to be connecting armor and AIs to your brain through it.
Yeah it did hurt him the first time he put Cortana in, he felt like if someone had put frozen mercury and a stab of pain, but then it left. No, the chip goes in the helmet but it connects to the UNSC Interface chip thing all UNSC personnel have. Chief's is upgraded so Cortana can use the MJOLNIR armour more effectivly and be able to use the Memory Core for proccesing power. And about the skulls, id have to say its Cpt. Keye's skull, becouse in Halo CE you have to punch it and brake it and take the Implant he had. Thats what i think

 • I believe it simply connects to the standard neural interface through MJOLNIR. I don't really see why it would go past the NI, as there really isn't anything past that except for tissue and such.

But nevertheless, it would wind up being bad. .
there are 0 nerves in the brain. if i could get your brain out of your head, i got dropkick it and it wouldnt hurt. although you would start forgetting where exactly you left your keys
True, but all the nerves in the neck/head (whichever one seems right) heading toward the brain would probably hurt. A lot.

 •
Posted by: Lord Snakie It goes at the base of the neck in the novels (or at least I remember it as such), but in the game it appears that it just goes in a slot right at the base of the helmet, not at the base of the neck. In the novels the AI supposedly was able to connect directly to the "mind" of the human in the MJOLNIR suit through the brain stem of the individual, and I believe Cortana in the games can do the same, but I don't think the connection is actually in the brain stem at that point. Looks more like the cerebellum, and that would hurt. A lot. Well, it might not. I don't think there are many nerves in the brain. But nevertheless, it would wind up being bad. • I see that the other Haloers swarmed over this.... No chance to shine for me. I always thought that was kind of cool though. Also, like MLG Cheehwawa said, people like Keyes and Hood have Command Neural Interfaces. Remember how Chief punched Keyes through the face in Halo CE? There you go.

I thought there might be some in the connective tissue to the spinal cord, but I wasn't sure. I remember watching no-anesthetic surgeries involving brains. It was... odd.
I'm sure over time you would get used to it.
