Exotic History: Spear of the Red Lightning #3
This installment of Exotic History is made possible by Major Fluffball (MindOfTheUndying)
Ivan tried many time find his family amongst the crowd to no end. He frantically searched as the masses poured away from the attack. Soldiers were few and far between, but their corpses littered the ground like red leaves along with other civilians who couldn't keep up with the crowd. After hours of searching, he finally gave up and sat down on a hill side, over looking his now destroyed home amongst the trees. He watched the smoke slowly drift to the sky as his eyes welled up in tears. He rubbed his eyes and sucked in some fresh air. "Keep it together..." He mumbled to himself. "You can find them..." A twig snapping brought him back to reality. He looked around but no one was there. He paused as a very low humming sound grew closer and closer. He stepped back just as a lightning blue blade pierced here he just was. The cloaking vanished as the alien figure growled in frustration. It had four arms, a mask that slightly spewed out a purple like gas and the colors red and white were prominent on its armor. Ivan stumbled back and fell just as the thing stepped on his chest and lifted it's blade. Ivan froze in fear as a sudden red streak hit the alien square in the chest. It paused and went rigged as its body refused to move just as another red streak blew it's head off with a dull thud. A thin wisp of white escaped it's neck as it fell over dead. Ivan scrambled up and clutched his chest. His heart was beating like a drum and his breath was nearly gone. "Keep acting like that and they will get you for sure." A woman walked out of the treeline. Her Russian accent was much thicker than his and she sported simple clothing. What made her stood out like a sore thumb was the bright red hood and cloak around her neck and the deep red rifle she held. She walked over to the dead alien and picked up its weapons, two blades and a strange little pistol. "Stupid Fallen..." She mumbled to herself as she pocketed the items. Ivan had his mouth opening and closing like a fish until the words finally came out. "Did... you... save..." "Yes I saved your sorry a**" She pulled the magazine out of the rifle and refilled the two shots she used. "Don't expect it to happen again." She reloaded the rifle and cocked it. She then turned and started to walk away. Ivan started to follow. "Hey... Do... you know what is..." "Oi! A clueless one aren't you?" She spun around and point at the city. "Take a look back there and guess what's going on!" "Hey I'm sorry! It's been a near s*** day and..." "And it hasn't for me? I don't feel like dealing with you, so screw off before I put you down." She bore her teeth at him and walked off. Ivan blinked and shook his head. "Geez..." He still followed her. "Well could you atleast tell me where the other evacuees are heading?" "No point, you will just get yourself slaughtered. These attacks are happening all over the world, even over all of Russia. We are losing a war we didn't even know existed." "Well... what are we supposed to do?" "YOU are supposed to leave me alone." "And if I won't?" Ivan was met with the red rifle being pointed at his chin. "I'll do the same to you as I did to that thing over there." "No you won't..." Ivan shook slightly in fear but held his ground. "You won't waste a bullet on me just after saving me." The woman looked him square in the eye with murderous intent. Her gaze then softened and she grinned a bit. "Well atleast now I know you aren't a complete wimp." She pulled the rifle away from him and slung it on her shoulder. "Never was to begin with..." He mumbled. "Really?" She shifted her weight on one foot and put her hands on her hips. "That scenario back there proved otherwise." "I was being attacked!" "A man is truly revealed once he is in the clutches of death." She turned and walked away once again. "And you sure as hell aren't a woman so it applies." Ivan let his jaw drop a bit as he tried to regain his composure. The woman laughed a bit. "If your dead set on being in a group I'll take you to one. You being alone will get you killed. Just remember my way or you go six feet under." She pointed to the ground and kept walking. Ivan sighed and jogged to catch up. They walked for several hours before the woman finally stopped and looked around. The crimson sun was fading in the sky. "This will do for camp. Rest for a bit." Ivan nearly collapsed and rubbed his sore feet. "Ow..." The woman laughed a bit. "Not to used to the life of a nomad aren't you?" "No..." Ivan said grumpily. The woman shook her head and laid down some firewood from the branches near by. She started a fire quickly and sat down and fed the flames as they grew. Soon a small warm fire was lighting the early night. Ivan has his hands wrapped around his body. "You can't seriously be cold?" Inquired the woman. "I am..." "Geez... You people and your creature comforts." She took off her cloak and threw it at him. "It better not get dirty." He wrapped it around himself. The cloth was thin but useful. "Thanks..." She nodded and pulled out a small bottle of Vodka. She sipped it slightly and watched the sky abovr. Ivan sat quietly for a bit before getting fed up with the silence. "So what's your name?" "Who cares?" "I do. That's the reason I asked." "Well stop caring." Ivan grunted. "Just trying to strike up friendly conversation." "Well I don't feel like conversing at the moment." "Why not?" The woman looked at Ivan like he was crazy. She held up the bottle of Vodka as if it was a clue. "Drinking your problems away?" The woman made a pleased face. "I'd thought you'd never learn." "What happens if you run out?" "I'll find more." She took a large swallow. "And if you can't?" She studied the bottle and looked at him. "Then I'll do without." "Is it that easy?" She groaned and took another swig. "Please tell me you can shut up." "I could if I can get a name." "What's next then? My number? Or my private quarters? Or parts for that matter." "I'm a married man! I'm not interested in you." "Good. Cause I'm not interested in you either." "Why won't you tell me your name?" "Because I don't want to. I don't care to share." "Why not?" "Is it a crime not say a name?!" "It is very rude though." She laughed. "Like I give a beavers dam." She swigged the bottle once more. She looked down the flask. "D*** it..." She threw the bottle away and sighed. They sat quietly for a moment. "Well... My name is Ivan." "Just Ivan?" "Maybe I don't care to share." "Good for you Ivan." He sighed. "Fine. What's that gun on your back." She paused. "This?" She pulled out the red rifle. "Yea that. How did you stun that thing earlier?" "Low caliber power in a large caliber shell. Even though it doesn't do as much of a job as it should, it atleast gives me time to run off." "So there's a stun mechanism in the bullet?" "Yes. Nifty little idea for hunting and smaller targets. Not so much for battle." "Why carry it then?" "Cause its mine." "How did you get it?" "Does it matter?" "It can." She looked at Ivan with a blank expression. "I don't see where you are going with this." "What's the guns name?" "I don't name inanimate objects that's just stupid." "Not if it's an good name." "Fine then. Um... Spear of the... Red Lightning." "Really?" "Its my gun d***it! I can do what I want!" "So your name is Red Lightning?" She paused and blinked. She put her hand up to her face. "Sure Ivan... Sure..." "See was that so hard?" "It was excruciatingly painful." Ivan smiled and lied down. "Sure it was." He closed his eyes. He heard Red mumble her response as she put away her gun. The silence fell over then as Ivan went to sleep. Thank you all for tuning in!
