We'd been flirting for the past few days so I was like 'today's the day'. During our lunch our everyday we've been going to the forest behind our school and just chilling at a cliff edge.
So today I was like 'let's do something stupid as usual and ask while I'm doing it'. There's this part of the cliff where about 4 feet down there's a tree that sticks out about 20 feet. My plan was to climb out near the edge and say something along the lines of "Hey, so, assuming I live, will you be my girlfriend?".
I had a few friends who were going along with the plan and came with us, for snapchat and whatever. Well, what I did was that I climbed about 10-15 feet out, then basically jumped down to hold on by only two strong branches, with no foothold, at which point I asked her.
And she said yes! But obviously now I need to get back to her, and sadly, it seemed I didn't have the strength to get back into the main log. I tried and tried for a minute or two. Eventually, my arms were getting too weak to hold on anymore.
I fell about twenty feet, and what saved me is that the section I was at was not exactly a straight cliff. It's hard to describe, but basically it's in between two sections of a cliff and it's about 70 degrees, imagine a very steep bowl with one open side.
I don't remember much about the fall. It happened really quickly, and as soon as I landed I felt some pain in my right ankle. My friends were freaking out "oh my god should we call 911 and blahblahblah" I was like "Nah I'm fine I just need to rest a bit."
I probably just sort of sat/lied there for a minute or two, then started devising a way to get back up. I looked around, and most of the wall was just dry mud. Better than nothing, but some parts break easily. I climbed a tad, then realized that to my right was a log that ran almost all the way up.
I slowly worked my way over to it, and walked/crawled up it. I was now about 7 feet below the cliff edge. I was able to use some random roots and stuff to eventually make my way back up onto ground.
My now-girlfriend proceeded to call me a -blam!-ing idiot for doing that, followed by a warm hug. We made it back to school okay, and getting to my afternoon classes was not okay.
It was actually really fun though. As much as it seems like I'd be traumatized, I was actually laughing as I climbed back up and all the way back. I've always wanted something like this to happen. I get injured doing something amazing and tough it out to make it back.
I also have a marksmanship competition tomorrow (November 21st) so it probably seems like a stupid idea to climb out on a tree just before, but I've already checked both my shooting positions (prone and standing) and I can do them without a problem. Wish me luck that I'll get 1st!
TL;DR: I sprained my ankle by falling down a cliff to ask out a girl and she said yes. Mission accomplished.
EDIT: Just finished the marksmanship competition. FYI I'm a Junior, meaning that I compete against both Juniors and Open (Seniors), but Seniors are obviously unable to win Junior medals. I placed 1st Junior, 3rd Open (behind one of our main rival teams' captain and my own team's captain), and 1st place team. I guess falling was good luck!

3 RepliesLol the first time I asked out a girl she said yeswas something like that l. Then I was a hit by a car in a baskin robins parking lot. They just drove off and we still don't know who it was. Luckily all I got was a bruised hip. Good times.
