Chances are they probably thought you were a sqeeker. I've been on LFG teams where I wasn't sure if the person was a little kid or a higher pitched woman. May want to greet with some strong words?
Kind of a crappy thing to deal with though.

I want to ask sometimes, but I don't want to offend them if they are a woman, you know? Usually I wait to hear their type of conversation. But even then you might get a 13 year old squeaker girl!
