This video explains what I would like Destiny elementals to be like. I use the amazing game, Child of Light as reference for my ideal.
And..
*This ideal came out of TTK's introduction of Infusion and it's negative affect on elementals.
Please enjoy both the video and writing.
Ok, the way Child of Light does elementals is how Destiny should handle elementals.
Raise your hand if your max light level loadout does not include every different element for your guns.
This is why having elementals work in Destiny like in Child of Light would be beneficial to PVE.
How elementals work in Child of Light?
Elementals work in crystals. If you have a weapon and went into an environment where fire damage would be more effective. You can equip your weapon with a crystal that would give your weapon fire damage. Same thing for if you were going into an area where water damage is more effective. See, if elementals where shards in Destiny (being able to put any shard on any weapon) you can equip your strongest weapons and not have to worry about it being the wrong element for a situation.
Elementals should be shards?
Yes. Elementals should be shards and have a rarity of rare. However, they would drop as white shards that you would have to use to extract a weapon's elemental burn.
How?
Kinda the same way how Etheric Light worked. What you'ld have to do to extract a weapon's elemental burn is to put a white elemental shard on the weapon (there would be a upgrade circle under the first row/column of the weapon's upgrade path). Then an option would appear for extracting the elemental burn out the weapon. Ex: A solar weapon combined with a white elemental shard would make the white elemental shard red/solar color. Which would take away the weapons elemental burn. Extracting a weapon's elemental burn should take three motes of light. The elemental shard, which in this case would be solar, would be able to be placed on any weapon. However, any weapon it gets applied to (if has an elemental burn already) will push out the weapon's elemental burn to be the new elemental burn. Having elemental shards to become the main way to have elemental weapons would solve many problems.
What kind of problems?
The problem that infusion introduces. Which is being at your max light level may keep you from equipping a weapon you would rather have equipped. For example; you're in a Nightfall where arc damage is favored. However, to be at your max light level you need to have your void and arc weapons equipped. Do have a weapon with solar damage, but I'll lower your light level. If you were just able to change your weapon's elemental type without negatively affecting your light level this wouldn't be a problem. Infusion introduces this problem. Having elemental shards for Destiny's elementals would allow you keep your highest attack value weapons in any situation since you'll be able to switch out it's elemental type via elemental shards.
Is this ideal to OP?
No. This idea has no negative effect on Destiny's PvE or PvP. Of course it doesn't affect PvP, because elemental damage doesn't matter in Destiny's PvP.
This idea is so that players in PvE can go into Destiny's end-game content with the weapons they want to use in any situation. Instead of weapons Destiny wants them to use because it's at a high damage value.
TLDR; ...
• Elemental should be in the form of shards.
• Shards should be able to be applied to any weapon. If elemental shard is applied to a weapon with the elemental burn already, that weapon will lose its original burn in place of the elemental shard's elemental type.
• Elemental shards would have a drop rate similar to strange coins.
• Elemental shards have no negative effect on PvE or PvP.
• Elemental shards allow players to switch out their weapon's elemental type and allow players to prepare for certain encounters without worrying about negatively affecting their light level.
FYI:Every point is explained in the video version of this ideal above. Thanks for reading this far if you did (:
*EDITED*
What About Fusion Rifles?
Well, with fusion rifles, it can require an elemental shard (if applied) in at all times. It'll be replaceable, but it'll need one in at all times.

1 ReplyYou said If an empty or White Shard is put into an Elemental weapon, that Weapon loses its burn because it fills the White Shard. Ok but how does it work with Fusion Rifles? Theres no Kinetic FRs out there. So you would have you make FRs not be able to work with the White Shards.
